Chapter 1 1

Emily.

"No dad, I won't do it!" I protested and stood up from the white couch. Although I'm the Alpha of my pack, I still do not have the right to argue or yell at my dad.

However, what he had just told me to do was against my spirit and my wolf, Raina. We don't like to associate ourselves with anything flirty.

Being a female Alpha can be very stressful, terrifying and even exhausting. I and my pack live in a community like a large estate which is deep in a green forest away from the normal humans. Sometimes, we mingle with them. Some of my pack parents send their cubs to school with them. But, they are very careful about it. The human species can be very scared. As a result, we hid our true nature from them.

You can imagine our stressful it is for a girl to be an Alpha. I have to make needs for myself as a girl, for the pack and as an Alpha. Before I became Eighteen, it has always been terrifying; I had to train everyday and take school works as well.

Unlike normal cubs, I didn't get to go to school with humans, I studied at home and trained for the position as a Female Alpha.

Everyday after I turned eighteen, I wished to find my mate quickly so he would take over and I would be the Luna of my pack. I have attended a lot "parties" just so I would find my mate. However, it has been nothing but futile.

I and Riana love to run, it helps us think and strangely, it relieves stress. As an Alpha, I have helped myself to manage my anger, I think it one of the reason other packs respect me.

I can boast of a successful pack, we all live happily and there as not been any form of problem since I have been the Alpha. I can boast of the best skilled pack in fighting and self control.

My wolf is brown is colour with patches of black, I love my wolf colour. Our eyes has been golden yellow right from start. In the dark, it can been seen brightly.

After taking a deep run around the green forest, we came to the stream which had rocks around. I slowed my pace and walked to one of the rocks. There, I slept and watched the full moon glowed in it's armour.

I wondered who my mate would be, I hope he would be a good person with a good heart. I had always hated the cliche of my mate being mean and possessive.

It's okay to love me, just try not to be clingy and possessive. I love my space too.

The next morning was bright and beautiful. From the window of my room, I could see the rows of green trees line up.

The sun shone directly to my brown face, it brightened my eyes and I enjoyed every bit of it. Distracting me from my morning routine was my door which flung open.

My mom walked in. She sat on my bed and looked at me with those motherly looks. She was very beautiful, she had long black hair and her skin was mid brown. I took my colour from her and I love it. I took my hazel eyes from dad, the lashes are also from dad with the brows.

"Will you stop looking at me that way"

I yanked and sat on the sofa near my window, picked up a novel which I had read half way before dad called me yesterday.

My mom and dad are both wolves which had always been rare. The moon goddess have always been unpredictable, she made humans most of the wolves soulmate thus making it hard because we have to explain to them and also remind them to keep it a secret from the normal worlds.

Well, they've been a lot of troubles happening in the real world. It wouldn't be nice to include the myth of the wide dogs.

Back to earth, my mom kept staring at me with her big blue eyes. I know what she was about to say, she would force me to do what dad had told me which I hate so much.

"You have to. You know your dad worked hard to get those shares. It wouldn't be nice to sell them"

She blurted urging me to comply.

"I am already an Alpha of this pack, mom that is enough stress for the day. You don't expect me to suddenly put on an office suit and be the partner of the most notorious, ruthless and uncontrollable Alpha wolf on earth just because my dad bought some shares from his father. "

I blurted. Riana was becoming cranky which can only be solved with running around the forest.

"I know, and we feel sorry for you. We are very sorry we didn't have any siblings for you but it's not our fault..." She trailed off and looked down sadly.

Oh... She was using the emotional trick on me but I can't resist. My mom had always been a soft Luna, she doesn't love to hurt anyone, especially their feelings or make them feel uncomfortable. That explains why she was here cajoling me to....

I stood up from the couch and say beside her.

"Mom, I understand you. However, I and Riana hate anything filthy. And we both know Alpha Ryan is everything called immorality. I hate him and he hates me too. It wouldn't be nice to make us partners. "

I uttered with an air of finality. Mom just stared at me with no more words to say. Just then, my bestfriend and Beta,Becca Raymond walked in. She was dressed like she just got back from the club. No doubt, she just did. Mom excused us as she entered.

"Bitch" She called and I shut her a stare. She raised her hands in the sky and sat down with a smile.

"Tell me you're didn't go and fuck two men in club 201" I closed my eyes as if disappointed. I really hate every thing immorality.

"Oh no, I'm not a slut. It was just one hot man" She said and smiled then licked her lips in sync. I hit my forehead and fell on my back.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.
