The Destinable Of Light Chapter 1 I AM DIFFERENT

"Don't ever think that you are not my son," said the middle-aged man sitting beside me.

How could I not think it, if he had such a tall build? Whereas I have an athletic body. His height is 182 cm, while I only have a height of 169 cm. And I also have a strange ability that he doesn't have.

"Even though Father has black eyes, and you have brown eyes, you are still my son."

This black and tan-skinned man is indeed my father, but I doubt that because he bears no resemblance to me at all.

"Maybe i'll be in Australia long enough," said my dad. "I hope you can feel at home studying at your new campus.

"Me too," I said, driving the car. Right now, I'm taking him to the airport.

As soon as we entered the airport, a bald man wearing a black suit was seen waiting for us, and a snake was wrapped around the man's waist, but the man seemed fine. My father didn't notice it, and I was the only one who noticed it at that place.

The bald man wrapped in the invisible snake greeted my father in a friendly manner, "Wow! Mr. Teddy has arrived. How are you, Sir?"

"I'm very good, how about you, Mr. Aryato?" my father asked again.

"I am very well," he replied. "It's just that my waist feels a little painful."

I know. It must have happened because of a strange snake that he couldn't see.

"How long have you been waiting for me?" asked my father while shaking Mr. Aryato's hand.

Mr. Aryato shook my father's hand as well as he replied, "About 20 minutes ago."

"Sorry," my father said before looking at me. "This is Mr. Aryato, My Son. He is my work partner."

"Ooo, is his Mr. Teddy's son?" said Mr. Aryato.

I nodded as I shook the man.

"It seems that Mr. Teddy has foreign products," said Mr. Aryato. "His eyes are also brown, he's very handsome."

"This is domestic technology, Sir," said my father.

"Hahaha..." Mr. Aryato laughed amusedly. "I doubt that you have an Australian wife."

"Australians don't have brown eyes," my father said. "When he was little, his eyes were black, but because he ate too much chocolate his eyes turned brown."

This time I was made a joke by my father, and I should be offended. However, my heart didn't react at all to the chatter.

"Flight..." The flight alert had gone off, "...Australia will be departing soon..."

"Shall we go?" said Mr. Aryato.

"Come on," said father to Mr. Aryato, then looked at me. "Don't forget to pick up your mother, My Son," My Dady ordered before leaving me.

"Okay, My Daddy," I replied and then waved back to my father who was getting further away with Mr. Aryato.

I was stunned to see my father's back. The man never once doubted me as his son. While in my brain, the doubt that he is not my real father is always growing and growing every time.

The strange air awakened me from the realm of thought, I felt a strange air around me. When my eyes looked around me, there was a flight attendant with fiery red eyes walking past me.

I hate the look of imitations like that. Then, I immediately averted my gaze. Pretending not to be aware of its existence is the best way to avoid it. Because if he notices I see his strange eyes darting, then I will be the prey of terrible creatures.

When I entered the hospital yard which was quite spacious. The friction that was strong enough between the road and the wheels of my car caused an ear-piercing shriek, two shadows chasing each other forcing me to hit the brakes suddenly and forcefully.

"Shithead!"

I almost ran into two red and black shadows streaking across the hospital grounds. The two shadows were jumping so fast to the top of the hospital building.

Even though I'm used to seeing strange creatures that are invisible to the eye, but I've never seen two creatures like that.

"What kind of creature is that?"

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.
