Pay for CEO's Love Chapter 1 A Trap

It was hot.

Waves of strange heat were coming over Ronnie Moore, making her feel like she had been set over a pile of burning sticks.

"Miss Moore, are you feeling unwell? May I help you get into the room for a rest?" A nasty middle-aged man took Ronnie's hand and stared greedily at her pinkish lips.

"No, thank you." Ronnie tried to shake off the man's hand but failed.

The man clung to Ronnie like a piece of gum, and his stinky mouth was moving closer to her face.

Ronnie was getting hot and anxious inside.

She had drunk a glass of wine handed to her by her fiancé, Leslie Payne, and then her head felt dizzy, and her body grew uncomfortable.

Had Leslie added something to the drink?

That was impossible!

He had always been nice to her, and they were actually about to get married.

Ronnie stopped thinking.

She pinched her palm with her nails to stay awake. The man in front of her was stalking her, his eyes full of greed. Obviously, he should know something.

Ronnie tried to calm herself down, then suddenly stopped, looked behind the man, pretended to be surprised, and said, "President Ward, that lady back there looks like your wife, doesn't she?"

"What? Where is she?" The man was taken aback and could not help but turn back.

Ronnie took advantage of the man's distraction and hurried to run away, gritting her teeth.

Realizing that he had been tricked, the middle-aged man then chased after Ronnie in the direction she had fled.

Ronnie's footsteps were weak and unstable, and she knew that the man would catch up with her soon. Suddenly, she noticed that the door to one room was ajar, and without thinking, she pushed her way through it.

She slammed the door shut and stumbled straight towards the bathroom.

The heat inside was killing her.

She desperately needed to take a cold shower to sober herself up.

However, as she pushed open the door to the bathroom, she slammed into a warm broad chest.

Ronnie took a few steps backward, her limp body nearly falling over as she lost her balance.

The man coming out of the bathroom grabbed her around the waist to prevent her from falling, then Ronnie threw herself into his arms.

She raised her eyes to see a man in a bathrobe that was loose enough to reveal his chest. The man's firm healthy-tanned skin was glowing with a sheen, his deep clear-cut features incredibly handsome.

Ronnie felt her brain buzzing, and she was about to lose control of herself!

She bit her bottom lip tightly, and her nails were getting deep into her palms.

"No! No!" She said to herself in her mind.

"Ronnie, you cannot do that!"

At the thought that the disgusting middle-aged man outside the door might not be gone yet, she had to force herself to face the stranger before her eyes.

She begged, "Sorry to have bothered you. Someone is looking for me outside. I was wondering if you..."

Shannon Harris furrowed his pretty brows, impatience evident in his sharp gaze. "What does that have to do with me? Get out!"

In fact, he had accidentally been poisoned by a rival in business this night. He had just managed to tamp down the fire inside. However, the flames were getting stronger and stronger once again.

Those businessmen who wanted to work with Shannon could do anything to achieve their goals.

"Please help."

Seeing the tears welling up in the woman's eyes, he averted his eyes. "I'll say it again! Get out immediately!" His forehead was oozing with sweat.

Ronnie's consciousness was beginning to blur, and there was an unusual shade of red in her face.

She took a weak step forward, tugged at the corner of the man's bathrobe, and said in an aggrieved voice, "I'm feeling so hot and sick. Please help me."

The look in Shannon's eyes became obscure as he looked straight at the woman in his arms, asking, "What do you want me to help you with?"

"Just help me..."

Before the woman could finish her words, Shannon slammed the bathroom door roughly shut with his foot.

"You've begged for this, so don't blame me."

The room temperature climbed up constantly, and a storm played out on the bed lasted for a long time...

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.
