Chapter 1 Late

Lisa's POV

Ring!!Ring!!!,urghhhh!,I groaned as I put off my infamous alarm,I still don't know why I put up with it ...... 'maybe cause it saves your dumb ass from waking late'..... & there goes my judgemental inner me,eish. i stood up from my soft & fluffy bed that I would love to just lay on all day,I looked back at it drooling 'snap outta it Lisa!'....I hear my inner me again,I groan as I walked over to the bathroom, did my daily business & came out. i walked over to the mirror ,nothing to see here ,just normal plain Lisa ,with the extremely curly dark hair & boring hazel eyes,I sighed & walkedto my closet to pick out my clothes . Today is my first official day in Denver high Yay! Note the fake enthusiasm,duh....I kinda hate the school already, well to be fair I kinda hate school, but I guess it's normal for all teenagers, don't get me wrong,I'm a straight A student, some would even consider me a nerd ,well that's because I study my ass off,I don't even ve a little time for fun.I sat in front of my mirror as I tried to straighten my now tangled curled hair ..... "Lisa!!!!!" I heard my sweet momma & from her voice I can tell she's raging, well maybe that's because I'm 5mins late for breakfast & probably some 30mins late for school 'great achievement on your first day Lis' I said to myself chuckling,I decided my hair would just have to be the normal boring thick curls I grabbed my backpack after completing my simple makeup, checking myself at the mirror again,my favorite Red check shirt ,slightly ripped blue jeans & white converse seem to go perfectly fine, satisfied with myself I went down to my family for breakfast. "Hi Dad", I kissed his cheek "Hey pumpkin", he said slightly grinning at me "Heyyyy mom!" I said grinning widely while going over to hug her, "young missy,do not hey me ,u re gonna be so late on your first day gosh!'she said in her mother's tone , "don't worry mom, they wouldn't want to scold the new girl ,would they?" I said wriggling my eyebrows at her,she finds it funny everytime I do that, just like I expected, she broke into laughter. "alright alright, put your lazy ass down & eat" , she said, then I heard the sweetest sound ever,my lil sis ,Lennie, giggling "morning Lis" she said in her cute voice "hey Lennie bear" I said ruffling her hair & pinching her soft pink cheeks, she is just sooooo cute,I want to eat her up,she's 7 already yet we can't get enough of her cuteness "Lissy don't do that" she said pouting "alright boo boo" I said as I sat down to eat. ***** Breakfast was over & soon I was in my dad's car as he drove me & Lennie to school,we dropped Lennie at the pre school & headed for Denver high, alright maybe I was a bit nervous, hell I was nervous,I didn't really have much friends in my previous school in California, only fucked ass bully,as if my dad knew what I was thinking,he took my hand "everything's going to be fine Lis" he said smiling at me ,I looked up at him, sometimes I wonder what I would do without them,I love them so much, they adopted me after I spent 8 years of my life in that horrible Orphanage, just thinking about that place makes shivers run down my back. yep I was adopted ,my real parents abandoned me in that Orphanage when I was a baby,at least that's what I was told ,I guess they didn't want a child , I was a burden to them, I stayed in that hellhole for 8years passing through the trauma before I finally got adopted by the Lexs' . Mrs Lex was a Child's Welfare Social Worker ,I guess the horrible things the orphanage did finally came out in the open , the Orphanage was shut down ,some of the kids got adopted & some were sent to a foster home , I was one of the lucky kid that got adopted ,Mrs Lex took a liking to me ,she is a nice woman ,she & Husband didn't ve a child at that time , they decided to adopt me ,I wasn't so comfortable with them at first but with time ,everything became perfect ,I was convinced they weren't going to hurt me, they showed me so much care & love, they were always there for me,my dad,Mr Lex played a huge fatherly role,he showered me with so much love ,I didn't need to ask for anything before I was given,ok maybe they did spoil me a little . Two years after ,they had Lennie,& oh God! she was a bundle of joy,she definitely brought joy to the whole family ,Gosh!she was too adorable for her own liking..... 'Lis,Lis,Lisa!' I could hear Someone calling my name,I turned & looked to my dad , 'are u ok? ,u zoned out there hunnie' he asked... 'yea ,yea I'm fine dad'....I looked outside & saw that we were at the school , 'remember what I told you pumpkin, you can do this ,I love you' he said hugging me,bI couldn't help but smile ,that was all the confidence needed , 'thanks dad' I said coming down from the car , 'have a great day ,byeeee' he said as he zoomed off . Alright so it's just me & this school, ok I huffed 'I can do this'....i Walked inside , I checked my phone 'the fuck!!! , I was almost 2hrs late ,this is so messed up ,I started panicking ,practically looking for a way around the school to get to my first class, hopefully it's not ended yet.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
