Chapter 1 One

Percy's POV

"Blood transfusion is no longer working for her Ms. Wilson. She needs a bone marrow transplant soon." The doctor exclaimed. For the past year, me and my 3-year-old daughter Tillie have been in and out of the hospital.

It all started with noticeable fatigue, paleness, and a bleeding nose. Tillie was born 2 months early, so growing up her body was a little frail. I remember the first time I took her home. I couldn't sleep that night as I watched her breathe, I was so anxious that she wouldn't be able to survive outside her incubator throughout the night, but she did.

After 2 years she was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia meaning her body stopped producing enough blood cells.

"How long before we can find a donor?" I asked looking at my little girl who was playing on the side.

"She has a rare blood type and since you are not a match, I suggest you inform the father of the child to see if he is a match." He calmly said.

"Is there another option?"

"I'm afraid there is not. She needs a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible and she's below the donor list."

My heart dropped when I heard him say that. Tillie doesn't have a father. It's always been her and me. But knowing my daughter needs him, I know I needed to go back and ask for his help.

Theodore Huxley.

The guy who impregnated me and left me for another girl.

I and my brother Apollo always had the biggest and hottest house parties in the neighborhood. Our parents were working abroad and so it was always been just the two of us.

I was in the bar area donning 10 shots of tequila.

"Max is a loser! You're hot, you need to catch a man and get laid tonight." My friend Steff suggested.

"Max ruined my self-esteem. He constantly criticizes every single thing about me." Maximilian Moore and I have been dating on and off for about 2 years. At first, he was sweet, like taking me back and forth to school type of sweet or writing love letters when he feel like it. But he grew lazy and possessive. In some fights, he would get physical. But I thought I love him and that I deserved that for being a brat sometimes.

"Alcohol is bad for me. I'm gonna go upstairs for a shower." I said excusing myself from the party. Apollo was by the pool playing with his boys, some were passed out on the floor while others were making out on the staircase.

My room was occupied by my friend who was hooking up and so I decided to rest in my brother's bedroom.

I locked the door upon entering. Luckily there wasn't anyone in the room. I quickly took off my clothes, grabbed a towel, and hit the cold shower to sober up.

After a good 10 minutes, I turned off the tap, wrapped my body in a towel, and walked back to the room.

"Cecile?" A low drunken voice called out. I instantly know who it is. Pol's best friend.

Theodore fucking "Hotxley"

"I'm not Cecile, Theo. Get outside, I'm going to rest here." I commanded with both my hands crossed on my chest. He was lying stomach down on the bed, exposing his sexy back.

"Hey, little sis!" he said as he stood up in his towering height and perfectly sculpted body.

"Or you can stay." I seductively smirked. I admit I do have a little crush on him growing up. I mean he was basically sculpted by the god himself. But it felt weird since he's been my brother's best friend since high school.

"You're my brother's baby sister. You're off-limits." Way to ruin the mood.

"Only if he finds out. Well, you can leave now and let me rest." I said swooshing him away. I walked past him but he quickly took my hand and caged me in a deep kiss. His beer-tasting mouth was swallowing mine.

He broke the kiss and looked me in the eyes. "He can't know." He growled. I nodded my head and he went back to dominating my lips. The towel wrapped around me slid off to the floor. I was completely naked in front of him. He stepped back to check me out before trailing his tongue down my body.

He took me on the couch inside Pol's room. On a normal night, I wouldn't be as bold as I was. But I got my heart broken and was basically running on tequila. Hook-ups weren't really my thing and what's worst was it was my brother's best friend.

But this was something I'll never regret.

After a few rounds of workouts, dawn was already breaking. The party outside was now starting to die down.

I was lying on top of him panting.

"That was---"

"A mistake," I said sitting up to find my clothes.

"An amazing one if you ask me." He said sexily.

"We need to go. Pol's gonna be back any minute." I said looking for my bra. "Have you seen my bra?"

He then handed me back my bra.

"Why are you in a hurry? Why don't you come back here and we can continue where we left off."

"Tempting but no. You're like my brother. This is incest."

"We're not related."

"Well, you have a girlfriend. And I'm not going to be your next side hoe." As much as I hated saying that, I knew about his relationship with Cecile.

"We broke up last night. Aren't you with Moore? Or did you break up again before he comes here with a bunch of flowers and an expensive box of bonbons?"

My heart dropped when he said that, a tear clouded my eyes and my throat tighten at the thought. "We're over for real. He Uhm slapped me across the face and so I ran out and broke up with him."

"Oh. Percy, I'm sorry."

"It's nothing. And he doesn't buy me an expensive box of bonbons, only the convenience store types."

After waving him goodbye I exited the room and went into mine, to get some sleep. Most of the people were going home and the household keeps were starting to clean up.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

For seventeen years, I was the crown jewel of the Kensington empire, the perfect daughter groomed for a royal future. Then, a cream-colored envelope landed in my lap, bearing a gold crest and a truth that turned my world into ice. The DNA test result was a cold, hard zero percent-I wasn't a Kensington. Before the ink could even dry, my parents invited my replacement, a girl named Alleen, into the drawing room and treated me like a trespasser in my own home. My mother, who once hosted galas in my honor, wouldn't even look me in the eye as she stroked Alleen's arm, whispering that she was finally "safe." My father handed me a one-million-dollar check-a mere tip for a billionaire-and told me to leave immediately to avoid tanking the company's stock price. "You're a thief! You lived my life, you spent my money, and you don't get to keep the loot!" Alleen shrieked, trying to claw the designer jacket off my shoulders while my "parents" watched with clinical detachment. I was dumped on a gritty sidewalk in Queens with nothing but three trunks and the address of a struggling laborer I was now supposed to call "Dad." I traded a marble mansion for a crumbling walk-up where the air smelled of exhaust and my new bedroom was a literal storage closet. My biological family thought I was a broken princess, and the Kensingtons thought they had successfully erased me with a payoff and a non-disclosure agreement. They had no idea that while I was hauling trunks up four flights of stairs, my secret media empire was already preparing to move against them. As I sat on a thin mattress in the dark, I opened my encrypted laptop and sent a single command that would cost my former father ten million dollars by breakfast. They thought they were throwing me to the wolves, but they forgot one thing: I'm the one who leads the pack.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
