It all started with a job interview, one that could've changed Pabi's whole life for the better had she known the actual cause of her misfortunes, although one of the perks the job came with was falling for her employer, the billionaire. Fate got trapped in the crossroads when the two lovebirds discovered the most shocking news, twisting both their destinies and leading them to the valley of the shadow of death, where only the faint-hearted survived.

The Ill-fated One Chapter 1 Prologue

The stillness of the night was surely alarming. If this was said to be a horror story, I wouldn't be surprised to come into contact with a ghost shivering in terror at how still everything was. Even Natalie was scared. Something about this night did not make sense.

A red, leather clutch bag together with a pair of block heels were tossed in the air and over the high wall. It was not long till they landed on the grassy land not too far from the pavement, exactly where their owner had aimed them to fall over at.

A moment later, we heard a loud thumping sound of someone who just jumped over the lofty wall and landed on top of the heels.

"Ouch," She whispered to herself, rising to her feet after realizing how long it has been since she was just laying there, unmoving, and dusted off the dirt on her yellow miniskirt. She wiggled the grass off her wig, her blonde Peruvian hair which was safely and securely placed on her left hand. She picked up her belongings and looked at the window in front of her. It was the main bedroom's window, and at least to her relief, the lights were still switched off.

"Phew," she let out a sigh of comfort and held her heart, hearing its beat lowering as though she had been running and suddenly came to a halt. She began to tiptoe to the door, trying by all means to move as quiet as a mouse as it appealed to her, careful not to alarm Spiky.

She was just about to turn round the corner when a dog came barking in her direction, its dark black skin showing figures like shadows as it moved hurriedly to her, but stopping midway after seeing a face it so badly recognised and walked slowly towards Natalie, at least at ease that it was no invader.

It was then that the kitchen door swung open, and before she could see anything else, the walking stick made a loud clumping sound on the red stoep before it's owner followed behind its tracks. Spiky rushed to the person standing at the door, curling his body nicely on the ground next to her.

"Natalie, I'm not about to reprimand you about going out at night if not jumping my walls just because l cannot see you. Go back to where you're coming from and never, ever, ever come back to my house ever again!" Natalie's mum shouted, turning and heading back to the house before shutting the door hard behind her.

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

Nathaniel Stone

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner-my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn't offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend's apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I'd spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend's face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.
