Chapter 1 MISHAP. (Confused love). Chapter 1

April O'neil arrived the classic resturant at exactly 7pm, in a black coloured Lamborghini Veneno. She wore a black gown that gave away her curves. Her husband, Micheal O'neil had called earlier that day telling her to get ready for dinner. The resturant before her; Milton cuisine & cocktail is made of glass which easily revealed it's interior. Diffrent kind of designs like she had never seen before adored both the inside and outside of the resturant. As she approached the door, a man stood there as if he was awaiting her arrival. "Good evening ma'am".

April flashed him a quick smile before responding. "Good evening". "April O'neil"? "Yes", she replied. "This way please". He lead the way while she followed behind. Diffrent couples were at the resturant having dinner, she then wondered where the man was leading her to. April made out from the man's dressing; Black trousers, well polished shoe, black jacket, white shirt and a bow tie, that he was not just an ordinary waiter but a special one. He lead her up a stairs and soon they stood face to face with an elevator and entered. "Are you taking me to my husband"?. April asked, impatience slightly visible in her voice. "Yes madam, we'll be there soon. "Hi mom". A young man dressed in a black tuxedo spoke over the phone. "Micheal Darcy O'neil, my run away son, how are you doing?". Another voice spoke from the other end. "I'm fine mom, i'll be travelling again so i prepared a little dinner surprise for April, i hope she likes it". "Oh Micheal, why wouldn't she? Only an ingrate like her would act blind towards all the efforts you're making to provide a comfortable life for her and the twins. She should be greatful she found a rich family and not worry about whether or not you spend enough time with her and the kids. I warned you against getting married to her but you insisted 'she is the perfect woman for you', now you see how miserable she's making you feel". The voice from the other end spilled all at once. "Don't worry about that mom, me and April will sort our own issues. "Bye". "Bye son". April and the "special" waiter arrived their destination and the elevator door slid open. Before them: a beautiful garden with diffrent beautiful flowers, hanging lights and calm music. April didn't realise that her mouth was hanging until she heard the door of the elevator close. "Oh, he left". She muttered to herself. Not knowing what to do, she stood there admiring the beautiful flowers and taking in all of it's fragrance. "You like it"?. April heard from behind her and she turned immediately and there he was, the love of her life ln all his handsomeness. "April you're drooling too much". Micheal said trying hard to supress his laughter. "Sorry, just that you look diffrent today". She complimented, looking in another direction and blushing simultaneously. "I asked if you like the flowers"? "Not just the flowers, i like everything here it looks magical and unreal". April replied him dreamily. Just like it appeared, all the dreamy and emotional looks on April's face disappeared. She now stood staring blankly at Micheal. "April are you okay"?. Micheal asked her worried. "Michael, why did you bring me here"? She asked without replying his question. "April you are my wife, it's my duty to......". He couldn't complete his statement before he was cut off. "Liarrrr". April screamed at his face. "How dare you, Michael"? "April, babe, how dare me what"? Michael, who was still confused at her sudden outburst, asked again. "You only bring me on dates like this when you're about to go on another business trip that take you 'God knows how long' to return. Things weren't like this when we got married 6 years ago, but ever since you got that job, you no longer have time for me and the kids. Your kids don't know you and you don't know a thing about them. April screamed with heavy tears dropping from her eyes. "How can you say that April?, everything i do, I do for you and the kids, so you can live comfortably. How can you say i know nothing about them"?. "Really, okay answer these questions about them". "What are their names"? "What!!!, April it hasn't come to this". "Just answer the damn question Micheal". April raved, not ready to listen to any of his excuses. "Their names are 'James Daniel O'neil and Jamei Daniella O'neil'. Are you satisfied now?". "Their favourite colour"?. April asked again, not satisfied. "Blue and pink". Micheal answered with confidence oozing out from him. "Wrong, it's red and purple". "Their age"? "They're turning 6 on the 20th of May"?. Micheal answered in a question like manner. "Wrong, they are turning 5 on the 20th of march". "Can you see now that you know nothing about these kids except their names?. I can go on and on with these questions, yet you know know nothing" "April calm down, we can settle this without you shouting and ranting". Micheal groaned at her. "Oh, so now i'm shouting and ranting?, you know what?, to hell with you and your dinner." April turned around and ran as fast as her leg could carry her. "April wait!!!". But before Micheal could reach her, the elevator door had closed. "Shit shit shit!!!". Micheal punched the wall obviously angry at himself. April kept on running and didn't stop. As she ran past the "special waiter" at the door, he tried to stop her but she didn't even spare him a glance. Micheal picked up his phone and dialed his mother again. "Hello mum, i...i...i". His anger didn't let the words come fluently. "Shhh, son calm down and talk to me". Mrs. Rose O'neil pampered. "Mom, we got into an argument again and April got upset and ran off, i don't know what to do mom , i'm so confused". Michael complained, using all the strenght in him to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. "I said it Micheal, i told you that lady isn't the right woman for you but you insisted. Assuming you got married to Anne then, things wouldn't be like they are now. You can still divorce he...". She didn't complete her sentence as she was interrupted by Micheal. "Enough mom, please, divorce isn't the right thing to do. I need you to help me by bonding more with April and the kids, i'll come up with something to assist you on this. Bye mom" "Whatever you say". Mrs. Rose concluded with a huff. For a few moments, Michael stood there lost in his own thoughts then suddenly his eyes twinkled. "I have an idea". April got to another path of the road and stopped, she looked around and it seems to her like something was missing. Then it dawned on her. "Oh my car". She groaned and hurled her hands in the air. A while ago she was so heartbroken, she ran in whatever direction her legs carried her to. She finally crumbled to the ground as her eyes gave way for another fresh tears. She brought out her phone from her purse to check the time. "9pm, no wonder the street is almost empty. What am i going to do, who do i call?". As she pondered within herself, a flashlight caught her attention, she looked in the direction of the flash light and saw that it was a car. As the car approached her she quickly wiped her tears, stood on her feet and waved for the car to stop. The car stopped and the driver opened the glass. "What is a beautiful lady doing out by this time of the night?". The driver asked. April stood there still wondering whether or not to answer the driver because she saw that he is a man; a very handsome man with jet black hair, deep pink lips, oval shaped face and beautiful grey coloured eyes. This man could steal the heart of any woman with just a glance. April did a mental check of his physical feature to determine his age; he looked like someone in his late twenties. She concluded. "Oh, are you a whore looking for married and unmarried men to have fun with for a meagre amount of money"?. The hottie asked sternly again. As the last question dropped out of the man's lips, April lost her cool. "Who do you think you are to talk to me in that manner?, do you know who i am?, do i look like someone who is suffering and sees prostitution as the only way to survive?, i thought you were sensible but you're just dumb". April didn't even let the guy say a word, she just stormed out of his presence and started walking toward a direction that leads to God know's where. The man began to drive slowly side by side with her. "Pretty lady, i am so sorry, i didn't mean for it to come out like that, i can see you are stranded and need a lift, please let me help you". April still didn't stop to listen to him, she just continued walking like no one was talking to her. "Do you know the number of crimes commited in this street on a regular by this time?, murder, stealing and even RAPE, that's the most common of all". He said laying emphasis on the word rape. April became scared but didn't let it show in her face. "Maybe i should just go with him". She thought within herself. "Open the car door". She said in a commanding tone. "My pleasure". The driver stopped the car and opened the door. As April entered the man ignited the engine and drove at a faster pace than before. "My name is Ben, short for Benjamin, i'm a certified marriage therapist with 5 years of experience, a responsible bachelor searching for the love of his life". The driver introduced himself intending to start up a conversation with April. After waiting a while April didn't introduce herself. "Won't you introduce yourself?" He questioned her. "I don't see why or how that is necessary". April who had been facing outside finally looked at him and replied. "Okay can you at least tell me where you are heading to"? "Drop me off at, Million Ga estate". "As you wish ma'am". He drove for about thity minutes and stopped at the estate gate. "Thank you". She said as she alighted the car. She turned around and as she proceeded into the estate he called her back "Miss, please have my card". He stretched out his hand towards her with a card in it. April hesitated a little before collecting it. "I see a young broken woman, you have your life to live Miss do not let anyone take that away from you". He concluded and drove away. April looked on as the car disappeared out of her sight. She stood there for some time looking in the direction the car went. "It's Mrs to you. But come to think of it. He's young, sensible and responsible; Every woman 's dream man. She thought with a smile on her face before entering the estate.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
