Chapter 1 18 Years ago

After enjoying the scenery overseas, a family of six were walking through the VIP area in the airport. Their skins were slightly tanned from playing and relaxing on the beach. Father was carrying a tiny doll-like girl in his arms; she was giggling at something her dad told her. Her smile made everyone around them smile. Even strangers were smiling at her laughter.

Mum was talking to boys now and then, but their eyes were on their princess. Smiling nonstop at her. She was their happiness if she cries their heart will break. They always kept her happy. They pamper her to no limits. But their princess has one weakness, their grandpa, whenever she sees her grandpa, she will ignore her mum, dad and her brothers. Her love for Grandpa made everyone in her family to be envious of him. He was the family's elder, instead of respecting them, they were envy of him.

"Daddy, are we going to see Papa?" she asked her dad, her eyes filled hope, not being able to say no to her, he said yes, while looking at his wife who nodded. Mum took out her phone to message their driver about the change of destination and informing the Elder's butler about their visit.

Their driver opened the passenger door, returning their princess's smile. She had all their staffs wrapped around her fingers. They were halfway to their grandpa's home when their baby fell asleep in her youngest brother's arm. Her breathing was mimicking her brother's heartbeat. Her soft snores made everyone to speak in whispers in fear of waking her up. In the front the oldest son and their dad were discussing about their business. While they second son was watching some wrestling videos online. Their mum was cuddling with their dad fast asleep on his lap. The last son was fast asleep with their sister in his arms.

They soon were close to their grandpa's home, when they heard a loud bang, and before they could react their car was turning. Mum and Dad, pulled their kids into their arms, shielding them from any harms. The children were crying and calling out for their parents. Soon the cries went silent when they fell unconsciousness. The driver was bleeding and was shot in his chest. Dad and mum were holding hands, they gave each other one last smile before taking their last breath. They are slowing close their eyes.

Ambulance's sirens were heard, each child was pushed into one ambulance. They all were focused on the boys, no one took note of the girl who was brought into a black van. Their grandpa who heard the bang and sirens send out his helper to check on the accident. Seeing their young masters carried onto the ambulances, she whipped out her phone to call the butler to inform him about the boys.

Grandpa rushed to the hospital with the help of his butler and assistant. They walked towards the operation theatre, when they reached, they saw nurses rushing in and out carrying blood bags and other medical stuffs. Till now none of them noticed their protected princess was missing. Only the bodyguards were busy looking for her, the head of the bodyguards was shivering at the side. His hands constantly touching his earpiece for updates on their princess.

Few hours later, three doctors walked out at the same time. They removed their surgical mask and bowed respectfully to the elder.

"Sir, we managed to safe our young master's life, but they have slipped into coma, we are not sure when they will wake up, we will keep monitoring them. Master and Madam, they died on the spot it was also thanks to them that the children managed to survive the accident," the lead doctor briefed the grandpa on the children's update. Noticing something the butler spoke up.

"What about our princess? How is she?" the butler asked worriedly.

"Princess? Sorry we did not receive any girl child in our hospital" the head nurse spoke after checking their hospital records.

"What is going on? Where is our princess? Lee!" Grandpa called for his head of security.

"Sir, we have been searching for our princess ever since the accident, the latest update was an eyewitness statement of a man carrying her into a black van, we are widening our search to country wide. We are sorry Sir," the man kneeled in front of the old man. He threw away his dignity as a man to apologize to his boss. Even the bodyguards were heartbroken. They are calling in all their resources to find their princess.

"No, make the search worldwide. They had enough to take her out of the country!" he screamed with tears rolling down his cheeks. The once feared man is breaking down for a little girl as known as his granddaughter.

"What am I going to tell my grandsons when they ask for their sister?" the old man cried out not caring about his image. This day was the start of the old man's misery. His whole family was breaking down slowly. The once happy family was no longer bright and happy. And he only can pray that it will get better. His search team started on their worldwide search. While the old man and his butler looked after the boys in hospital.

He only could hope that the boys will wake up later so that he can delay the news of their missing sister known to them or maybe by the time they woke up, she would be found and is back here.

Hope is a scary thing in life, it can pull you up or push you down. You will never know what will happen when you hope. Yet we still keep hoping, just so that I can bring us a little luck or happiness.

For how long will this family hold to their hope? Will they give up anytime soon? Or will they hold onto to their hope and continue to search for their youngest Member?

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

For four years, I traced the bullet scar on Chace’s chest, believing it was proof he would bleed to keep me safe. On our anniversary, he told me to wear white because "tonight changes everything." I walked into the gala thinking I was getting a ring. Instead, I stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, drowning in silk, watching him slide his mother's sapphire onto another woman's finger. Karyn Warren. The daughter of a rival family. When I begged him with my eyes to claim me, to save me from the public humiliation, he didn't flinch. He just leaned toward his Underboss, his voice amplified by the silence. "Karyn is for power. Ember is for pleasure. Don't confuse the assets." My heart didn't just break; it incinerated. He expected me to stay as his mistress, threatening to dig up my dead mother’s grave if I refused to play the obedient pet. He thought I was trapped. He thought I had nowhere to go because of my father’s massive gambling debts. He was wrong. With shaking hands, I pulled out my phone and texted the one name I was never supposed to use. Keith Mosley. The Don. The monster under Chace's bed. *I am invoking the Blood Oath. My father’s debt. I am ready to pay it.* His reply came three seconds later, buzzing against my palm like a warning. *The price is marriage. You belong to me. Yes or No?* I looked up at Chace, who was laughing with his new fiancée, thinking he owned me. I looked down and typed three letters. *Yes.*
