Lola Smith and Colin Murphy had promised a marriage of convenience before Lola went abroad. Two years later, when Lola came back and wanted a divorce, Colin just put aside her proposal and ran after her. While Lola was sick, Colin stayed up with her in case she got worse. When she got hurt, Colin, who literally doesn't have to do anything on his own, took care of her all the time by himself. Once she argued a divorce again, he just replied, "Well, surely we can get a divorce, but after that you must remarry me. You are my only wife and we have to spend our entire life together." How could she keep away from him, the gentle and soft man?

Break Up Chapter 1 We Could Get Divorced at Any Time

It took Lola Smith a dozen hours to fly from Paris to Sea City. She was completely tired and exhausted.

It was at dusk when she left the airport. The rosy clouds shone brightly in the sky. The afterglow of the setting sun sprinkled on the city, making the whole city look familiar yet unfamiliar.

Wrapping up her scarf, Lola dragged her suitcase out of the airport, went to the roadside to stop a taxi, and headed straight for the Imperial Glory Hotel.

Thinking that she would see Colin a while later, Lola was inexplicably nervous.

After getting married for two years, they had seen each other only a few times. The last time they had seen each other took place half a year ago when Colin had gone to France for a business trip. He, who probably had been ordered by his seniors, had specially gone to Paris to visit Lola's grandmother.

The door to the room was open. Lola knocked on the door out of politeness and got no answer. She directly pushed the door and walked in.

The presidential suite was located on the top floor of the hotel. There was a whole side of the French window inside the room, offering a wide view to overlook all the scenery of Sea City.

The setting sun not far away was sinking and floating at the meeting point of the sea and the sky. In the sky, there were brilliant rosy clouds and dotted returning birds.

Lola stood in the middle of the room and dragged the suitcase at her hand as she was attracted by the view outside the window.

"Clatter, clatter!" It wasn't until a few moments later that she heard the sound of water from the bathroom.

A few minutes later, the door to the bathroom was pulled open. A dainty and slender woman appeared behind the door.

The woman only wore a towel provided by the hotel, which was just long enough to cover the base of her thighs. There were two long and fair legs beneath the towel.

Upon seeing Lola, Tami stiffened immediately. It took her a long time to come back to her senses. She pulled the bathrobe next to her frantically and wrapped it around her body in a panic.

"Lo... Lola, why are you here?"

Lola didn't answer. Looking down at Tami's taut toes, Lora wanted to laugh all of a sudden. But She managed to hold back and tugged at the corner of her mouth as she called, "Sister-in-law."

Tami laughed awkwardly, "Don't get me wrong. I came to a dinner party with Colin and spilled the soup accidentally, making my clothes soiled. So I went here to take a bath... "

She was eager to explain. However, before she finished explaining, the door was pushed open and Colin walked in with a paper bag at his hand.

Seeing Lola, Colin was startled. But he came back to his senses quickly, "When did you come back?"

Lola glanced at the suitcase at her hand and curled up her lips, "Just arrived."

Colin handed the paper bag to Tami, who took it over hurriedly and turned into the bathroom to get changed.

Although Colin was just Lola's nominal husband, upon seeing another woman showing up in the room of her "husband" while being half-naked, Lola felt that the atmosphere was somewhat...

Well, it's quite embarrassing.

What's more, this woman was the sister-in-law of Colin!

Fortunately, Tami, who was very sensible, changed her clothes and left without further explanation.

Colin walked over to the bar, raised his eyebrows slightly, and asked Lola, "What do you want to drink? Juice or coffee?"

"No need." Lola stood there without moving, "I'll be leaving soon. Don't bother."

Colin poured her a cup of coffee. And Lola took it over, "Thank you."

Colin held a cup of coffee for him at his hand, walked over to the sofa, and sat down while overlapping his long legs, "Are you here for something?"

Lola squeezed the cup. She, who didn't intend to talk about any bullshits, got straight to the point, "Regarding the issue, what's your conclusion after deliberation?"

Colin raised his eyebrows, "What is it?"

"Getting divorced."

Colin gave an "oh" as if he had remembered something, "So, you've made up your mind, right?"

Lola gave a faint "hmm" and added thoughtfully, "We agreed at first that we could get divorced at any time."

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.
