Chapter 1 House sitting

Three years since he had first put step in this building. Three years that he had vowed that he was going to make this falling and crumbling business his own. He looked out of the building and breathed in deeply and thought," What use was the view when a man did not even have the time to enjoy it?"

But that did not let him pause for a moment and take the effect that he was definitely enjoying the background and when he was meeting with his clients it provided a very impressive backdrop no doubt. His father had thought that giving him a failing business as inheritance would be the only thing that he would be giving was a chance to failure.

But his father had never thought success and failure were the two sides of the same coin and that only meant that Sean had a chance to succeed as he could fail and Sean wanted to succeed. He had the hunger in him which his father lacked to a great extent.

In the middle of the New York city stood a massive monolith of glass and steel and this was the building of the business enterprise of Sean Baraclova, one of the youngest billionaires of the country. He did not look at the view outside his empire but was more focused on his laptop and the business deal that he was currently making with a Japanese company because he wanted to own the technology for the mass production. If he had to buy the technology for a longer period by taking it on lease then ultimately from the cost projections he was going to the loser.

"Mr. Murakasi, we have been talking about the same thing for the past quarter of an hour and I have not been able to understand your demands," said Sean as he steepled his fingers beneath his chin and looked at the man hard and square.

"This is a technology that is going to earn millions and millions for us in the long run, Mr. Baraclova. Why would we want to sell it to you?" asked the man on the other side of his screen in halting English and also with his accent.

"No it won't. The technology you have right now is going to be usable for the next five years and at the most the next decade and after that it will be leaked and the technology is going to be used by everyone in the market but you would not have a buyer then. You have a buyer in me now because you know that I am willing to expand my production and that is the reason I am willing to pay the exorbitant amount which you have quoted. In the beginning. You thought that I would say no but now that I have actually agreed to it you think that putting up more drywall before me is going deter me. I am trying to do this the right way," said Sean and he could hear a tap on his glass door and find that his secretary Stacy was standing there.

He looked up and gestured for her to come in and wait.

Stacy walked in with her high heels not making any sound on the plush carpeted office and she sat down opposite to his table. She was wearing a pastel coloured shirt with her top two buttons open and a silver chain peeking out from underneath with a charcoal grey pencil skirt with a slit uptill her thigh. Her blonde hair was pulled up on the top of her head in a ponytail and she looked ravishing as ever. Stacy had never failed to impress him with her presence or her looks. After all she was sex on a walking stick.

"Are you threatening me?" asked the man on the screen and Sean laughed at the little guy.

"Of course not, Mr. Murasaki, that will be so cheap of me. I am just telling you that your board members have already offered it to me for a price lesser than the one you quoted for 25% and that is going to be unethical if I actually choose to do so. You might want to discuss things with your board members for this, and while you do that we can have another meeting scheduled in a time which is going to be better for you," said Sean and he smiled at him.

The man on the opposite was visibly perplexed at what Sean told him.

"Is this true?" he asked after a little while and all the bravado that she had been showing it before a little while was now completely gone from his voice.

"Mr. Murasaki, we both are men of businesses and we all know that this meeting is being recorded. I am going to be have to either too stupid or too much of a gambler to say something like this on record, don't you think? If you want evidence I will send you the meetings clips," said Sean as he leaned back in his chair. He could see that Stacy was smiling at him. She was the perfect secretary that he had always wanted. Hot, sexy, charming, suave and sexually available. What more did a man need?

"I will ask for proof later on, Mr. Baraclova but right now I need to have a board meeting. You have my gratitude for sharing this particular information with me," he said and the continued speaking," You will hear from my secretary soon about the meeting date."

"It was great meeting with you, Mr. Murasaki, like always," said Sean as he signed off and then shut down the lid of the laptop.

"You seem happy," said Stacy after a moment as she looked at him and then said," Your father called."

"Now what does he want?" asked Sean with a scowl on his face.

"He said that he and his new wife are going away for this vacation and his step-daughter is staying back at home and since she has just started college she is not that responsible enough and you need to go visit her and house sit for them for the next few days. He also said that you owe him from the last poker game and he is asking in for his favour. His step-daughter could also do with a bit of guidance," said Stacy and smirked at Sean.

"Oh dear lord! If I had known this was the favour he would call in for I would have never had given in. That sly bastard."

"I think you need a pick me up," said Stacy as she stood up and Sean smiled and said," You always know what I need." She came round the table and knelt down on the carpet and opened the zip of his pants and fished out his organ and stared lovingly at it.

"Miss me?" she said in a cute voice as she wrapped her lips around him.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was at my own engagement party at the Sterling estate when the world started tilting. Victoria Sterling, my future mother-in-law, smiled coldly as she watched me struggle with a cup of tea that had been drugged to ruin me. Before I could find my fiancé, Ryan, a waiter dragged me into the forbidden West Wing and locked me in a room with Julian Sterling, the family’s "fallen titan" who had been confined to a wheelchair for years. The door burst open to a frenzy of camera flashes and theatrical screams. Victoria framed me as a seductress caught in the act, and Ryan didn't even try to listen to my pleas, calling me "cheap leftovers" before walking away with his pregnant mistress. When I turned to my own family for help, my father signed a document severing our relationship for a five-million-dollar payout from Julian. They traded me like a commodity without a second thought. I didn't understand why my own parents were so eager to sell me, or how Ryan could look at me with such disgust after promising me forever. I was a sacrifice, a pawn used to protect the family's offshore accounts, and I couldn't fathom how every person I loved had a price tag for my destruction. With nowhere left to go, I married Julian in a bleak ceremony at City Hall. He slid a heavy diamond onto my finger and whispered, "We have a war to start." That night, inside his secret penthouse, I watched the paralyzed man stand up from his wheelchair and activate a screen filled with the Sterling family's darkest secrets. The execution had officially begun.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
