Miranda is a 21 year old girl who is forced by her parents to get married to Andrew Brown her father's friend's son. Soon after they start falling for each other.
Miranda's POV
I sat outside the Torres in my father's massive house. My name is Miranda and I have two siblings.
"Miranda, dinner is ready" my younger brother James said from my bedroom door.
"Ok" I replied looking back at the beauty of the city.
After watching for sometime, I went downstairs to have dinner. I noticed everyone was quiet as I reached the dining table.
"Miranda take your seat" dad said as I looked at everyone suspiciously. I nodded at him in reply.
"Miranda"
"Yes dad"
"You know you're 21 years old and your already matured for an adult life"
"Yeah dad, but why are you saying all these?" I asked him dropping my fork.
"Well my friend, Mr Brown came to my office this morning with a marriage proposal for you" I stopped in my track as he finished talking.
"What?"
"Yes and he said they will be coming tomorrow to see you, so get ready"
"Really? But dad am not ready for marriage yet" I told him sternly.
"And Andrew Brown is a good man for you because he's intelligent, smart, well
behaved, sensible and also wealthy so there would be no need to worry about him"
"But am n......"
"Look Miranda, am not ready for this argument right now because this marriage is going to take place" he said and left.
I felt a hand on my shoulder. I raised my head, my eyes meeting Mom's.
"Miranda darling, don't be sad about this, okay? He's a good man, though I didn't want you to get married to him not until I saw him and how he behaved" she said assuringly.
"But mom am not yet ready for marriage and I've never seen or spoken to him before."
"Don't worry about that dear, you will like him, now smile and eat your dinner" she said going back upstairs.
I looked at my food as tears began running down my cheeks, I've already lost appetite. I ran upstairs to my room, closing the door and resting my back on the door. Everything dad said began running back to my mind. I started having shortness of breath. Oh!!! God I didn't take my pills and my inhaler, fuck!!!. I grasped holding the wall to find balance.
I rolled on the ground trying to reach my inhaler in my cupboard. I felt hot tears rush down my eyes.
"Miranda!!!!" I heard mom yell my name from my bedroom doorstep.
"Where's your inhaler?" She asked looking around my room. I tried pointing at the cupboard close to my bed but I felt weak. She understood quickly and brought it to me. I inhaled as much as I could as I panted heavily.
"Come on, come to bed and rest you must be tired" mum said helping me to my bed. She patted my head for a while before I fell asleep.

The early morning sun shone directly on my eyes making me rub my eyes. I got up from the bed and did my morning exercises.
After taking a cool shower, I took my drugs and put on a big pink hoodie with a light blue jean trouser. I went downstairs to have breakfast.
"Miranda, hope you've taken your pills?" Mum asked me concernly.
"Yes mom, I took it"
"Ok come and have your breakfast dear" she made us pancakes with fried eggs, bacon and tea.
"Mom, dad am off to work" I told them both after having my breakfast.
"Be back early, remember Andrew and his family will be coming tonight" dad said, eyes still on his newspapers.
"Yeah" I responded.
I walked calmly to the book store where I work and opened the door. My colleagues were already there. I waved and greeted them before going to my table.
I was taking records of the store's activity putting on an earphones when a phone call came in.
"Hello!!!" I heard dad's husky voice.
"Yes dad"
"Come home now, the Browns said they would be coming early than planned, because the would be going for their friends dinner party" at this moment I frowned at what he said.
"Ok, I need to wrap up somethings before coming"
"Be fast" he said in a commanding tone and hung up.
By 11: am, I finished with my work and went home. I opened the front door and saw mom placing different foods on the dining table.
"Your back already, now go get ready, they would soon be here" mom said going back to the kitchen. I've never been forced to do what I don't want to do so this is going to be very hard for me to adapt to. I ran upstairs to my room and saw a box on my bed. I opened the to see a straight cut red gown. It was above knee length with strap hands.
I wore the gown after looking at it for a while. I packed my hair in a neat bun and sat on my bed putting on my black swead heals.
"Miranda!! they are here" Jane my younger sister ran to my room and announced.
"I will be there soon" I told her as I wiped off a tear from my eyes. I stood up and straightened my gown. I took a glance at myself from the mirror in my bedroom, I saw I was really beautiful in this gown. After some few checkups on my body, I went downstairs.
When I reached the sitting room, my eyes were settled on a tall man. He had blue eyes which were charming. He was putting on Armani suit with a glittering shoe. His hair was carefully and neatly trimmed and arranged on his head.
He was so handsome and charming. Then suddenly, it dawned on me that it was Andrew Brown, my soon to be husband. Anger washed all over my body.
"Miranda, come and have a seat dear" mom told me pointing to the space beside her.
"Good day Mr and Mrs Brown" I greeted the visitors while taking a seat.
"Wow, Mr Anderson, you have such a beautiful and we'll mannered daughter" Mr Brown complimented my dad. Mrs Brown only gave me a gleaming smile. She looked more like her son. I looked at Andrew once again and he gave me a sternful look. He looked really pissed off and angry. I looked away from his angry gaze.
"What do you do for a living, Miranda?" Mr Brown asked cutting the silence that was filled in the sitting room.
"I work at a book store as it's secretary" I responded with a sad look.
"That's nice but what did you study in college?" I started becoming tired of his questions.
"I studied arts" I said looking at my parents with a 'what the actual fuck' look.
"Ok Andrew what did you study?" My mom asked, I smiled at how she prevented more of Mr Brown's questions. He shrugged before responding.
"Business Administration".
After sometime, dad and Mr Brown retired to talk about office work, I looked at Andrew and he kept his eyes glued on his phone. Such a jerk!!. I went through my Instagram to chat with some friends.
"Food's ready, come over to the dining table" mom announced as both her and Mrs Brown brought the foods out.
I went to the dining followed by my dad, Mr Brown and that jerk, Andrew. I sat close to my mom to prevent unnecessary questions.
"Miranda, Andrew?" We both turned to look at Mr Brown. "We've decided on the date of the wedding" he announced. I looked at my parents with a disapproving look. Andrew sighed.
"Mum would you excuse me to use the toilet" I told her standing up to leave. I walked angrily to my room and banged the door. I released uncontrollable tears. I can't believe my parents are making me go through this. Immediately, mum rushed in because she knew I might have an attack.
"Come on Miranda, everything will be fine" she told me hugging me to her chest. I cried until my worst fear started. I opened my mouth to receive air but it was not forth coming.
"Miranda!!! Where's your inhaler?" Mum asked with tears in her eyes. I didn't know where it was. Mum helped me walk till we reached the stairs and she yelled out my dad's name. Both him, Mr Brown, Mrs Brown and Andrew came.
"My God, she's having an attack, oh!! God" my dad panicked. "Where's her inhaler?" Dad asked mum as he carried me to the sitting room.
"She doesn't know, neither do I" she responded sobbing really hard.
"Come on let's take her to the Hospital" Mr Brown suggested to my parents.
"Yeah I think we should" dad replied.
"James, Jane" dad called for my siblings who ran out immediately.
"We are taking Miranda to the hospital, you two should be here, okay?" They nodded in response. To my surprise, Andrew volunteered to carry me in his arms to the hospital. Mr Brown drove us all in their car to the hospital.
