Chapter 1 Time Stands still

Andrea was at her doctors office waiting for her ultrasound. She was 38 weeks pregnant and anxiously awaiting her baby girls arrival. The baby's room was decorated in pinks and white with the name Lilly on the wall. This would be Andrea's first child. She did not know who the father was after a one night stand. But dreamed of a happy marriage one day. She was lost in thought when the doctor entered the room and asked Andrea if she had felt the baby move recently. Andrea thought about it and said "no." The doctor gave her a grave look. The ultrasound revealed that baby Lilly was stillborn.

Unable to accept it, Andrea shouted as loud as she could. She was in shock, hoping that the doctor was wrong. One of the nurses took pity on her and drove her to the hospital where it was confirmed the baby was dead. She was forced to stay in the hospital and deliver the baby naturally.

What luck, Andrea thought to herself. She had no family as she was estranged from her family after insisting on keeping this baby. Her friends left her as she was too high maintenance for them and not reliable. She had nobody. As she lay there after they induced pregnancy, she laughed at what a joke her life had become. The irony of demanding to keep this baby and loosing everything in the end. Including the baby. Really, she didn't know what there was to live for.

As she left the hospital the next day, she walked the long corridor alone. She head cries of sorrow and saw purple signs indicating women who had lost their babies. At least she was not alone. She walked around aimlessly for 3 hours, watching families in the park, wondering how they could be so happy as her life is standing still. She found herself in front of her apartment. Standing there looking at the door, she wondered what her purpose was. As she walked in, she felt no emotions. She had to face what should have been Lilly's room. Day's went by as she sat in the nursery and tried to find some explanation or hope. But nothing came.
