Another Runaway Bride

*A Year Earlier *

Somewhere in San Francisco, CA, at about 2 pm, it was sunny and it looked like everyone was going to burn. Some made use of the umbrella while some wore skinny and exposed clothes because of the heat.

A demi God stood by a lady with sadness in his eyes, "Tell me you are joking, we made a promise to each other remember?"

"I love you, Derek but at this point, I don't think I can continue this relationship anymore." She responded looking downward.

"Come on look at me, everything was perfect yesterday, why the sudden change? Did I do something wrong? I am not perfect and I apologize if I hurt your feelings, stay with me please." He held her hands, unable to let her go.

Tears dropped from her eyes, "I love you please, let's get married as we have always planned and given birth to beautiful kids, do not hurt my heart I trusted you with."

"This has to stop, when do you plan to tell me?"

"Tell you what?"

"That you are dying, when exactly do you wish to break the news to me? Your dying breath?"

"I don't understand what you mean by that? Who's dying?"

"Stop the act of love, you are hurting me the most, can't believe you will be this dumped, I saw the result from the hospital."

He froze, he didn't expect her to know about the result so soon, he couldn't even utter a word to her.

"It's over love." She took off the expensive engagement ring he had once given to her and returned it to him.

"I will be leaving the country as well."

"You know I can't find love elsewhere, you know my heart belongs to you but I am not the creator. I am sorry I didn't tell you about it, I was going to tell you but how do you expect me to say to the one I am in love with that I am dying?"

Tears rolled from his eyes and he felt pain in his heart.

"You ought to stand by me."

"I am sorry, I need to think about my life, do you plan to ruin my future? I can't be a widow after marriage, goodbye, Derek McCain. I wish you well."

She took her turn to leave but he held her hands bringing her close to his heart as he hugged her tight.

"Why do you have to die? Why?" She screamed out her pains and cried more.

In the emergency ward, Mrs. Esther McCain was worried about her son Derek who was rushed into the emergency ward after collapsing.

One of the doctors came out, "Doctor, how is he?"

"Do not worry Mrs. McCain, your son is fine but I am afraid his days are getting close."

"Oh no." She held her heart dearly like it was about to explode, she almost fell but the doctor supported her.

Mrs. Esther McCain is in her fifties but very smart and hardworking. Despite her age, she looks very beautiful, and if she were to remarry, she would have so many suitors. She loved her late husband more than anything and vowed never to remarry and make sure she takes care of their only son Derek before she joins him in the other world.

Derek was discharged from the hospital and didn't go to work, he kept trying to reach his lover who ended this with him but she was not reachable.

He drove to her apartment and she was nowhere to be found. He despises drinking strong gin at any bar, but he was forced to do it because of his heartbreak.

He wore a hood to hide his identity but when he became drunk, some recognised him and his mother made sure the set of media who wrote about her son was completely shut down.

The wealth of McCain is indescribable.

Derek McCain has all the good-looking features any lady will desire. He could be the dump billionaire at some point but smart when it comes to his duties as the CEO of McCain Limited. He has cute blue eyes, dark short blonde hair, and an M shaped pink lips.

It's been a year already since Derek McCain became the dumbest and most rude CEO in existence.

He drove to the company, as usual, and ignored his worker's warm greetings. He was wearing a dark blue designer suit worth millions. He developed a new hobby of shopping for the latest clothes.

His office has everything needed, a setting looking like a living room having the latest design of couches and a down table.

A mini room as well just in case he wants to take a nap. He sat down in his rotating chair and turned on the bid Xbox game to play some video games without checking the schedule of the day placed on his table.

His Secretary came in to remind him of the meeting that is about to start.

"Sir the meeting will commence now, each representative from each country is present in the hall waiting for you the superior to come in,"

The name of his secretary is Miranda Lambert, she has gone through hell with the CEO and sometimes faces crises in her relationship.

She is determined and ready to do the right thing to meet up with work and tries to manage her relationship all the time, yes she is beautiful as well.

"As you said, I am the superior so they shouldn't have a problem waiting for me right?" He focused on his games and his fingers were as fast as possible making sure he didn't lose the stage he was in.

"But sir, you scheduled this meeting and it's good we keep to time or_"

Derek didn't let her finish the statement," Or what? I should be scared, huh? I control everyone in the hall waiting for me."

"I can decide to cancel the meeting and it won't affect me or my family name, they will lose everything. I could start by making you get the red card, what do you think about that?"

"I am so sorry boss, I will tell them to wait till you come in to start the meeting."

"You are so smart, kindly leave my office now, I feel uneasy with you here."

"Yes, boss."

"No wonder he keeps having runaway brides before his wedding." She murmured and he heard her, he paused his game standing up to face her.

"Stop there. If you move an inch I am going to sack you immediately."

She obeyed without a second thought.

Are you bad-mouthing your boss in his presence? Do you have a death wish?" His voice came with an authoritative command.

"No boss, I was talking about someone else." She denied knowing what the job means to her.

"You are lucky I am in a good mood today, I would have given you a month's suspension without you getting your pay?"

"Yes sir, thank you for being in a good mood." She bowed her head twice.

"Miranda, get me a glass of wine,"

"Yes, boss." She walked to the mini-fridge to get the wine and turned it into a molded cup instead of a glass cup.

"Here you go, sir."

"Thank you for making such a great mistake," he poured the wine on her body and threw the cup. He saw how frightened she became.

"Clean this up and get me some wine with a glass cup, okay?"

"Yes sir." One could see tears gathered in her eyes.

"I wonder why some ladies could be so emotional." He resumed playing his game.

The office door opened revealing Lewis Bennett, his only best friend.

Lewis is the opposite of Derek's attitude though he is not as handsome as Derek himself.

He works at McCain Limited as well, his extra duty is to make sure Derek doesn't ruin the company.

"Derek, I knew it, you must be doing something else that's not worth it."

"Oh Lewis you are here already, take the other pad of the game, I am sure of winning you."

"Oh good gracious, how did I end up having a friend like you hum? You are so complicated, how could you call for an impromptu general meeting and you are in here playing the game." Lewis was so frustrated by his friend's attitude.

"Oh Lewis, you are always serious with everything, waiting for an extra minute won't kill anyone and they dare not leave without my permission."

"Derek, you are going for the meeting you called for now."

Lewis walked to the switch and turned it off saying, "After you boss."

"I think when I speak with my mother, you should be fired,"

"I will gladly accept it, but before then, let's go." Derek scoffed and just decided to walk out of the office.

Making use of the elevator, other workers were scared to go in with them but Lewis called them in.

Derek gave him a deadly stare, "You are welcome best friend." Lewis let out a smile that looked annoying to Derek.

They entered the hall where the meeting is meant to take place and everyone on their sit stood up to respect Derek.

He ignored them all humming a song and finally took his seat focused on his phone while others remained standing waiting for his order to sit.

Lewis gave him a sign.

"Oh, you can all take your seat, let's begin,"

The meeting started but wasn't paying attention to what they were discussing.

"Let's hear what our CEO has to say before we implement the idea," one of them suggested after much deliberation.

"Derek, what are you doing?" Lewis whispered to Derek.

"Oh, the Fryu games just launched an updated version of the game, isn't that wonderful?"

"Oh no," Lewis shaked his head wondering how his friend became this dumb.

"Well the plans are all good, send a copy to my email, and this meeting is done for today, you can return to your places." Derek closed the meeting and walked out leaving everyone in surprise.

"Just do as he says, and the idea is lovingly too," Lewis said to kill the tension in the air.

Lewis rushed to meet Derek who was already at his office, he scolded him.

"Derek, when can you ever be serious with something hum? When?"

"Come on, life has no duplicate, we can't always be serious but the plan is good, I will just go through the risk management and time management too if it's good then we start."

"Whatever. So your mother found a bride for you? I hope she won't turn out to be a runaway bride."

"Is no longer new news if it happens you know, maybe after this mom will give up"

It's been a year now, Mrs. McCain has been searching for a bride for her son to get married quickly because of the doctor's report, but they run away after going through the terms and conditions.

He was tagged the 'Ceo with the runaway bride.'

"Your mother will never give up, our world CEO needs a wife, you need to learn and be calm with ladies, who knows you might get love."

"Nah, that doesn't exist okay, when you say money you see the ladies, but love, hell no." He replied angrily remembering how she left him. He assumes she has been with him because of his wealth.

"Work on yourself so someone can love you, even myself is tired of your attitude and get married quickly, so people won't think we are gay."

"Tsk tsk tsk, I can never choose you as my partner even if I turn gay "

They both laughed and talked about other things.

Mrs. McCain came to her son's room, he was busy playing games to notice her.

"Lonely God, how was work today?" His mom loves calling him a lonely God since he has no love affairs but owes everything.

"Work was fine mom, you didn't knock."

"I know there is no one in your room so why will I knock?"

"Really mom, you're going to mock me now?"

"Anyway son, your wedding date is fixed, I have a feeling that the girl I found is the right one for you."

"Mom, do you know today will make it the 12th time you are saying this word?"

"And what if it's?"

"Nothing at all, the date is out, no problem."

"Juliet, come out now, he will see you now."

Mom said and she stepped out not looking bad at all.

Juliet smiled at him and he just ignored her and murmured, "Gosh she is ugly."

*Two Days To The Wedding.*

"Where is my son's bride to be, we are supposed to sign the court papers today before we proceed." Mrs. McCain yelled.

"Mom, I told you before, I will take my meds now, and also I am feeling so tired, so mom give up on the cross-matching game."
