BODYGUARD SON IN LAW Chapter 1 Nightmares

She was panting as she ran down the bushy tracks, her clothes torn, her breath labored by pants, and her body filled with sweat, her feet ached from the stones and thorns that pricked and brushed her feet but she didn't stop. She couldn't stop right now. They were right behind her. She wasn't yet safe, she had just escaped from captivity and she was being hunted down by men with arms and dogs alike.

But she was reaching her limit, she couldn't run anymore as her legs gave out and she fell rolling down the road when she saw two men jump out and grabbed her right.

"Nooo!" She screamed loud as she woke up panting for breath. Just then the door opened as her mum and a few bodyguards ran into the room alarmed. The bodyguards quickly did a quick survey and saw that no intruder had entered so it wasn't an external case. Her mother on the other hand sat beside her holding her as she held her tight and patted her shoulders, trying to confront her.

"Calm down, Myra. It is just a nightmare okay? I am right here. Everything will be alright. You were rescued remember?" She said shushing her daughter as she felt her trembling in her arms and she shook her head.

This wasn't the first time that Myra had gotten kidnapped because her mother was a famous businesswoman and her stepfather was a mafia. It had left her jumpy and scared which ended up in having many nightmares but no matter the therapy she got, she never truly healed.

"It was so real mother. I thought they got me. I can still smell their stench on my face, and the evil smile they gave me. Mother, it was so horrible. I was so scared. If you and the policemen hadn't gotten there, they would have killed me. I was weak and helpless and they taunted me with it. I am just a nobody like they said." Myra said sobbing her eyes out as her mother Lady Janet glanced at the bodyguards who were still immobile waiting for her command. She jerked her head towards the door and they quickly understood that they weren't needed so they nodded their heads and left the room leaving mother and daughter behind.

As soon as the door closed, Janet pulled her away from her body and looked at her face.

"Listen to me, dear. You are a nobody. You are my daughter. And you are precious to me. You know that I will do anything for you. So never think you are the problem. It is I that should be apologizing. Because of mine and your stepfather's business, you have always been on constant watch by bad people who want to use you and get to us." She said as Myra cleaned her face and kept quiet.

"I believe I know what to do now. Since things have come to this and I can't always guarantee your safety. I have decided to get you a permanent bodyguard. One that will be with you 24/7 anywhere you go." She said finally dropping the bomb Myra pushed her mother away gently and stood up walking towards the makeup table as she shook her head.

"No, I don't agree with this. You know how I feel about bodyguards. I do not need one, mum please do not get one for me. I would rather learn self-defense. I will take better care of myself that way. " She said trying to reason with her mother but her mind was made up.

"You know why I want you to get a bodyguard. I would not be at peace if I do not get you one. I worry too much about you, you are my only child. Please I know your last bodyguard did some things to you when you are still a child but that was over 20 years ago and things are different now. I will get one that won't do such nasty things to you. You can count on me." She said as Myra sighed.

She didn't want one get her mother was insisting that she needed one. Usually, she would back down but considering how the house was always on tension, she knees that there was more to it than what her mother was telling her.

"Mum is anything going on between you and stepfather? What is happening?" She said instead as her mum raked a hand through her head and sighed,

"I guess you have noticed that your stepfather and I haven't been seeing eye to eye lately. Anyways I will tell you....there is no need to keep it a secret from you. You need to know how grave this is. Your stepfather and I have been planning on divorcing. We are no longer happy with each other since we always argue and can't seem to get to a compromise. So I fear people would use this to get to me now they find out that the family is coming apart, all the more reason you need a bodyguard."

Myra looked at her mother and sighed. She knew her mother was scared that was why she was behaving like this but she didn't also want one. There was no need to argue with her anymore. Besides, it was night and they were both tensed. It would be a lot better if they spoke again about this issue on another day.

"Mother, could we leave this topic to another day? It is late and I don't want to keep you up. I want to bathe again and try sleeping. That would help me this time around." She said with a smile as her mother nodded her head.

"Okay princess, you are right. It is late. Try and get some sleep, I will be in my room if you need me. Good night Myra." she said as she headed for the door.

"Good night mother," Myra answered as the door closed behind her and she exhaled.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
