Ever since I was a child, I had always been poor. Every time I came home from school, I would be met with the sight of my father busying himself in the kitchen. From my earliest recollection, I would always remember my father wearing his old factory uniforms in the house. His hair was snow-white and he had very dark skin. He would usually smoke cheap cigarettes and the car he drove around was a Santana which was a real wreck. Despite all our hardships, my father threw himself into his work for 18 years and raised me to his best abilities, and I ended up not disappointing him as I managed to get into a very good university. Because I came from poverty, I had to work a part-time job in order to pay the high tuition fees. I knew my classmates must've looked down on me because I was so poor, but I did my best to not let that bother me. On the day of my 18th birthday, my father announced that he was going to give me a birthday present and that he would bring it to me in person. That day I saw my father in a new light. My father's coarse snow-white head had turned shiny black. He had replaced his tattered clothes with expensive Givenchy suits, and he even wore a Patek Philippe watch around his wrist. The old Santana was now a limited edition Rolls Royce. I stared at my father with bewildered eyes and asked him in an incredulous voice, "Dad, is our family really the richest in the world right now?" My father took out a Mayan Sicars cigar worth $500,000, lit it, and blew out a smoke ring. "Son, I know you've suffered a lot for the past 18 years, and I feel ashamed that I couldn't have provided more for you. I want you to take this ten million as pocket money first. You can ask me for more later if it's not enough!"

Chapter 1 Swallowing His Pride To Borrow Money

In Room 505 of the boys' dormitory of Orlando University

"I'm so sorry, Larson. Can you please give me some more time? I'm working part-time in the few months so I'll have the money ready for you by then. I don't have any money right now."

Garry Smith lowered his head and apologized.

A week ago, while in the dormitory, Garry accidentally broke his roommate's expensive watch.

Garry was not a man who would shirk his responsibility. Larson told him that the water was the latest model of Tissot, which cost him nearly ten thousand dollars. He wanted Garry to pay for the damage within the week.

"Really? You want me to give you fucking more time? If you don't have the money on you, why don't you ask your family for it?"

The man who spoke harshly was Larson Foster. He had his hair parted in the middle and dressed in fashionable attire

"Are you an orphan or something, Garry? If both your parents are dead, I can think about giving you some more time."

"You went too far this time, Larson." Garry's face reddened out of anger.

His parents were just ordinary people. They did everything they could to pay for his tuition and living expenses. How could he turn to them for more money?

"Ha-ha, look at you. You're so poor, you can't afford it. I'll tell you what. If you can crawl under my crotch, I'll accept the loss and I won't ask you to pay me back."

With a smirk, Larson pointed his finger at his crotch and ridiculed Garry.

Faced with such humiliation, Garry clenched his hands into fists at his sides and ground his teeth, but because he was in the wrong this time, he did not bother to fight back and just chose to tolerate the taunting.

Such a concession made Larson even bolder.

With disdain in his voice, Larson said, "Let me make myself clear to you. I can afford a dozen watches, but I don't like having my things damaged by others, especially by the likes of you, a poor person!"

After finishing speaking, Larson reached out, grabbed a cute porcelain piggy bank from Garry's desk, and intended to throw it to the floor.

"No!" When Garry saw this, he was so angered that his eyes seemed about to pop out of their sockets.

The porcelain piggy bank was the first gift Shelly Brooks, his childhood sweetheart, gave him when they had feelings for each other. It was the most cherished memory for him.

"Ha-ha!" When Larson saw Garry's reaction, he laughed smugly and smashed the porcelain piggy bank to the floor heavily.

Garry pounced on Larson, but it was too late. The porcelain piggy bank hit the floor and broke into a thousand pieces.

"Garry, you should give me interest for the delay in paying me back. Since I'm a nice person, I won't charge you for it. Are you grateful? Ha-ha!"

Larson walked out of the dorm room while laughing out loud.

Garry banged his fist on the floor, his eyes filled with hatred and grievance.

"Money! What I need is money! More money! Why is it so hard to live an ordinary life without money?"

When Garry walked out of the dorm, Larson was nowhere to be found.

As Garry was walking on the busy street, he felt very aggrieved and confused. He had no idea what he had done wrong and why Larson treated him so viciously.

"Just because I don't come from a rich family?" he murmured.

At this very moment, his phone rang. It was his father.

Garry took out his phone from his pocket. It was an old phone and not a smart one.

"Hi, Dad. What's up?" Garry tried his best to suppress his emotions and act normally in front of his father.

This time around, his father's voice was filled with joy and vitality, vastly different from his usual tone weighed down by life.

"Son, today just so happens to be your 18th birthday. I need to tell you something. I'm the richest man in the world and have a personal net worth of trillions."
