DOUBLE SCANDAL Chapter 1 One

I woke up so early this morning feeling so refreshed, happy, cool, bubbling and excited about this new day. It was 4:30 am already. I looked beside me, my husband was still sleeping soundly on the bed. I bent over him and gave him a little peck on the cheek. He reacted sleepily by turning over to the other side. I giggled and covered him properly, before jumping off the bed, to start the new day fully!

My name is Sonia Tinket. The one and only special wife of Alexander Tinket, a handsome, loving, wonderful man, husband and father of my two children, Marvin and Marvela Tinket.

Alexander Tinket, the love of my life, my darling and my whole world, is a smart working class millionaire. The manager of the biggest textile industry in the whole of Africa. He's very brilliant, handsome, cute, hardworking, very generous, a sweetheart, a true father and the best husband ever.

I could remember vividly the first time we met. I think it was love at first sight. He was caught in love and so was I. Though, I thought it was never gonna work out due to our busy work schedules as we never had time to really meet, hangout and talk. But as heaven would have it, we both went on a business sponsored vacation to Waterford, Ireland. That was where we reunited again. We used the opportunity to get to know ourselves more, talked, went to see some movies, went sightseeing, went touring and spent a lot of time together.

We returned to become closer and closer and closer, though our jobs still tried to keep us apart, but we didn't relent till we tied the knot and later on got married, ready to live happily ever after, till death do us part.

We were blessed with two kids in this beautiful marriage, Marvin and Marvela are two beautiful twins. Marvin the boy and the eldest and Marvela the pretty damsel. They are eight years old and in their third year in the primary section. They both were the apple of our eyes. Aside my husband, the next thing I don't ever joke with are my two kids. They are so lovely and believe me, you can't stay with them for a minute without being relieved. I love them so much.

I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth which after I was done, I washed my face. I went to the kids room to check them up, Marvin was sleeping soundly when I checked him up, I kissed him on his forehead before leaving his room. Then, I went to Marvela's room to check on her also. I knocked before sauntering in, I noticed the a glimpse of light going off. She must be awake, this little girl never ceases to amaze me. I wonder what she's up to this time around. I walked up to her bed, she was pretending to be asleep. I sat on her bed for a while before calling out her name.

"Hey Marvela, hey" I said, touching her cheek.

She couldn't stop herself from smiling as I did that. So she had to give up on her little prank, since she realised I had found out.

"Good morning Mommy." She said in her tiny but sweet voice.

"Good morning baby girl. You're awake this early. What are you up to?

"Preparing for school" she replied

"Vel, it's too early to prepare for school. You didn't check the time when you woke up? I asked her.

"It said 5:30 am when I woke up. Since it was just 30 minutes to our normal waking up time, I decided there was no need sleeping anymore. So, I uhm..." she paused for a while, not wanting to complete it.

"You what Vel?

"I decided to read my comic book."

"Vel, it's so early to read that okay. By the way, did you read your Bible and pray this morning before doing that? I asked, knowing well that I didn't either and never did. But, I still teach them to do it despite that.

"No mommy. I would do that when it's 6 O'clock." She answered.

"Listen baby, let that be the first thing you do every morning before any activity, no matter the time you wake up, okay? I said while rubbing her face with my palms.

"Okay mommy. I would pray for my twin brother, I will pray for you and also for daddy."

"That's my baby girl. You know I love you right? I love you." I said, kissing her plump cheek.

"I love you too mommy."

I smiled cooly at her and left her alone. She picked up her Bible and then covered her hair with a headtie. I could hear her tiny voice saying some prayers as I headed to the kitchen which was downstairs.

I opened the kitchen door and went in, while leaving it open. I could feel the joy bubbling in my heart. You know why?

Just yesterday, I got a promotion to become the manager of my company. A foreign cosmetic and body care company which had a branch here in the country. It had been my dream for a long time to become manager, but I wasn't expecting it so soon. I was really surprised when I got to work yesterday and I was called by the previous manager and handed a letter. The joy that filled my heart when I saw it. The previous manager was transferred to a different country while I was given the privilege to replace her.

I will be going to work today as a different person all together. Different title, different office, different level and top notch. But, that would also mean more responsibilities. Hmmmm, I thought, yeah, that's true. I have to make sure to see that it doesn't affect my relationship and household obligations as well.

What should I cook now, I thought. Something light but special at the same time. I should also prepare lunch we would take to the office and my kids to school.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancĂ©e. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancĂ©, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.
