The Altruistic Bride of the CEO Chapter 1 Introduction to Phoenix

The blaring of the alarm had caused her beautiful dream to come to a standstill where a handsome prince in a blue coat and on white horse was riding towards her in an enigmatic smile. Phoenix gave out a desperate sigh. After all they were only dreams that kept her alive pulling her away from the actual sinning world.

She rubbed her eyes to get rid of the remaining sleep and removed the torn blanket covering her bruised body. Her hands reached the bed side table and searched for her black rimmed glasses.Phoenix was a natural beauty. She had the most captivating dove eyes, petite alluring physique and red hair which were her unsnatchable assets gifted by God. Milana, her step sister, always felt jealous of Phoenix's beauty. Thus, for her beauty to remain concealed from the universe, Milana gave her big black rimmed glasses instead of contact lenses to cover her pulchritudinous orbs and a black wig where her long silky red hair stays hidden.

She put her legs on the floor and shivered with cold when a sharp pain shot from her legs reaching her middle. Phoenix has had a fever for the last two days. She felt frequently reeling because of weakness and almost went twice to the state of unconsciousness.

Last night Madonna, her step mother, who was equally wicked as her half sister had beaten her with a broom. Milana stole money from her mother's handbag and often booked Phoenix for her wrong doings before their parents. But did Phoenix have an option to defend herself? Even though she could speak, her lips were often sealed because the more she spoke the greater the abuse she had to suffer from Madonna.

Her father was indifferent towards the daily suffering she endured in her family. Sometimes Phoenix wondered if she was really his blood because he was so insensitive towards her. Her sister was equally wicked as her step mom.

The only person in the complete house who cared about Phoenix was her half brother Trevino, two years older than Milana. He looked at her pitifully when she was going badly whipped by his mother. During mid-night, when everybody fell asleep he tip-toed into her room with some food and two tablets of Aspirin with a glass of water.

Phoenix considered herself fortunate at least there was someone in the house who was bothered about her. Her father betrayed her mother. Though she knew everything, her mother had to keep quiet because she was sick for a long time and couldn't many times quench his bodily needs because of illness.

Gabriel slowly became a womanizer and started having an affair with her current stepmother, who gave birth to Trevino and Milana. After Rachel Phoenix's mother left the world due to cancer, Gabriel remarried and made Madonna the mother of Trevino and Milana as his legally wedded wife.

Phoenix became the maid and cook in the home while Madonna and Milana enjoyed life going out and partying, draining away the few assets that the family had.

Phoenix could manage only going to school. Afterwards she had to give up studies to become a full time maid in the house because the family couldn't afford the education of three children.

While Milana and Trevino went to school and college, Phoenix became the house-keeper and also worked as an assistant in a small flower shop to look after the house expenses.

"We had toast and eggs yesterday and you are repeating the same breakfast today too? Why didn't you make pancakes?" Milana scowled at Phoenix in question.

"Milana, we do not have strawberry syrup in the house to have with pancakes and the shopkeeper refused to give us a loan because we already owe him a huge amount." Phoenix replied meekly, already feeling the not so welcoming goosebumps hitting her.

"How dare you give a back answer to Milana..." Madonna raised her hand to slap Phoenix.

Phoenix shut her eyes and flinched to brace the slap about to strike her but Madonna's hand never reached her cheek.

Phoenix opened a single eye in fear to find out what happened when she would notice Trevino's hand stopping Madonna.

"Mom, shut the hell up! Phoenix had been suffering from fever for the last two days. Instead of giving her medical assistance, you people continue to exploit her even when she is sick." For a few moments there was a staring contest between the mother and son but none of them talked daring the other to speak.

"How disgusting!" Milana puffed out air before fluffing her cheeks and stared at her brother, mother before getting up and pushing back the dining chair she sat earlier which gave a shrieking sound.

Trevino ignored Milana's comment. "Phoenix, get ready. We are going to see the doctor today and you're going to rest the remaining day after coming home from the clinic."

Phoenix opened her lips about to speak but Trevino was on time to place his finger on her lips.

When Madonna was about to interject Trevino stopped her with a sentence which raised the hairs on her skin. "I am ashamed to call myself your son, mom because you do not possess the heart of a mother. For a girl who is like a daughter to you, who kept serving you night and day for the past eleven years without a holiday just in a crave for a loving glance from you, you are a sick and disgusting woman who couldn't speak to her even a few sweet words."

It was not only Madonna whose body froze in place, the whole room fell silent feeling shocked for the words that came out of Trevino.

While the other people continued to stay in the trance that he created, Trevino pulled the arm of Phoenix to reach the entrance.

Booking a taxi Trevino accompanied her to the nearby clinic like a responsible older brother.

The doctor examined Phoenix and diagnosed her with extreme anemia after a few blood tests. Her hemoglobin percentage was too low which caused her reeling with fatigue.

Phoenix ate very little. It was basically the leftover after the whole family had their meals. Sometimes when the food was insufficient, she had to adjust with only a glass of water and sleep the night with hunger. The result was chlorosis, another name for bloodlessness.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
