Chapter 1 Sneak-peek

Abraham drew menacing steps towards the anthropoid. Richard's face was covered with sweat. Anxiety warred on his face as he took trembling steps backward.

"How dare you touch her?" Abram growled holding his hands in fists like a hungry predator. His treacherous eyes poured out venom and red and emitted anger that touched the roof in his savaging beastly aura.

Richard started looking around searching for an object that he could defend himself and kill the ruler before him. But Alas! He found none. When you can't beat you compromise. And that's what Richard did. "I am sorry. Please leave me. I will not only stop looking at her but for any girl. It's a promise."

He knew he was almost dead and prayed for his dear life. "Please don't kill me." Richard pleaded for one more time.

Abraham clenched his jaw. "You should have thought of the pros and cons before I came here. Alas! You have nothing to help yourself now, you pig. I am your peril speaking who is going to end you mercilessly."

But before Richard could answer, Abraham heard another voice from beside. And it was Crystalline. "Crystal?" He asked her doubtfully.

She screamed in fright, her eyes closing off in terror as Abraham landed blow after blow on the fiend's face. "Stop it!" She shook forcedly with terror like someone was beating her.

Abraham looked at her and was alarmed by the way she was reacting. "What happened to you, Crystalline? Come back to your senses." He ran to her rescue and softly patted her cheek in worry to get her out of the shock she was enduring.

Crystalline could not hear him. Her body refused to cooperate. Hardly a couple of seconds passed and she began to sweat profusely and her face turned red like a tomato. "Please don't touch me....please do not touch me...." She shouted and began to pulsate, unable to reach her breath.

Abraham looked at her thunderstruck. This was a discovery he was making about her. Luckily something struck in his mind right on time. He held her face firmly so that her eyes were squaring his. "You are fine Crystal. I'm here. Relax. You are going to listen to me. Take a long breath in and breathe out." He repeated the words for her several times when finally she relaxed and closed her eyes.

After a few seconds gradually she came back to normalcy. "She gets those panic attacks whenever she is psychologically unstable or depressed." A soft voice came from behind.

A wolfish look crossed the features of Abraham. "You...you are the reason for this. Isn't it?" He pulled his hair for a grip and continuously hit his face against the wall.

"I will surrender to the cops." He succumbed to the floor as Abraham blew another fist on the bastard's stomach. With blood flowing down a river from his withered face, he was on the verge of collapse from the number of hits that he received.

"That's not going to happen. How dare you try to touch a girl who is like a daughter to you." He raised his leg holding him by the collar and plunged his feet between his legs.

"Oomph" he held his crotch and landed to the ground in an unlimited pain.

Abraham raised his fist almost hitting him for the boundless time when he could feel the pressure of a hand on his shoulder. "Please don't kill him. I want you beside me, not behind the bars." Crystal implores with tears running endlessly out of her eyes.

"I don't share what is mine with others and you have tried to meddle with my most precious. You wanted to touch her, right? Now you are not a man anymore to touch her or any other woman in this world." His leg lifts instinctively stabbing him in his stomach and one last weighty plunge between his legs by his feet.

Richard takes a hard staggering breath and drops unconscious on the floor.

He looked at her pink full lips that were bleeding in the corner and his vision scrolled down. Her slender neck had several nail marks covered in red an apparent view of physical torture. It broke his heart. "You..."

"Why didn't you tell me about him earlier?"

He asked her in agony almost unheard of my tone.

His flaring eyes were directed to the muck curled in a ball in soft whimpers. Abraham looked at Crystal's hands which had several burn marks finally landing on her svelte digits. "Aah," a soft whimper left off her.

It was then he looked at the pool of blood on the floor."What happened to your ring finger?"

The pain was too much to bear prohibiting her even to speak. "He had cut my finger because I refused to remove our wedding ring." Crystalline's voice was too fragile because of huge blood loss finally dropping unconscious to the floor.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

My stepmother sold me like a piece of inventory to a man known for breaking people just to plug the financial crater my father left behind. I was delivered to the Morton estate in the middle of a freezing storm, stripped of my phone, and told that if I didn't make myself useful, my senile grandfather would be evicted from his care facility by noon. The master of the house, Adonis Morton IV, was a monster living in a silent mausoleum, driven to the brink of madness by a sensory condition that turned every sound into a physical assault. When I was forced into his suite to serve him, he didn't see a human being; he saw a source of agony. In a fit of animalistic rage, he pinned me to the wall and nearly strangled me to death just for the sound of a shattering teacup. I only survived by using my grandfather’s secret herbal blends and pressure-point therapy to force his overactive nervous system into a drugged sleep. But saving him was my greatest mistake. Instead of letting me go, Adonis moved me into a guest suite connected to his own bedroom by a hidden door. He didn't just want me as a servant; he needed me as a human white-noise machine to drown out the demons in his head. The nightmare deepened when he took the promissory note that defined my freedom and tore it into confetti. By destroying the debt, he destroyed my exit strategy. He replaced my maid’s uniform with a silver silk dress that clung to my skin but did nothing to hide the dark, ugly bruises his fingers had left on my neck. He branded me as his "primary care associate," a title that was nothing more than a gilded cage. I felt a sickening sense of injustice as he forced me to sign a contract that banned me from contacting other men and required me to sleep wherever he slept. He looked at me with a possessive heat, calling me his "medication" rather than a woman. My family had sold my body, but Adonis Morton was intent on owning my very presence, using my grandfather’s medical bills as a leash to keep me within twenty feet of him at all times. Standing in a neglected greenhouse with mud staining my expensive silk, I realized I was no longer a victim waiting for rescue. If I was going to be his medication, I would learn how to be his cure—or his undoing. I began clearing the weeds with a cold, calculated frenzy, determined to turn this prison into my laboratory. He thinks he has trapped a helpless girl, but I am going to pry open the cracks in his stone walls until his entire world comes crashing down.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
