Chad Longman is the most powerful man in Junction City. Rumor has it that he doesn't like women. No woman can get close to him. However, he treats Vickie differently. Vickie Muller meets Chad accidentally at a banquet. Later, Chad calls her Vicky and badgers her all the time. Besides, he says she's his wife. Vickie thinks there must be something misunderstanding ...

Chapter 1 Don't Run I'm Not Stupid

"Miss, there isn't a room for you at home yet, according to Mister. Please stay here for a couple of days. When the marriage is canceled, we'll take you back. Miss, are you fine with it?"

"The presidential suite of Imperial Hotel lives up to its reputation. Everything here is premium! Yes, I'm totally fine with it!"

Vickie Muller took a glass of wine from the hand of the butler and gulped it down like drinking juice. Meanwhile, she blinked her big eyes and looked around.

She acted like a bumpkin who hadn't seen much of the world.

The butler looked contemptuous.

The second young lady was the daughter of Mr. Muller's first wife, who died young. She was raised by her uncle.

She was brought back because the Longmans wanted to cancel the marriage.

The Longman family was the most powerful clan in South City. They had extensive connections in the military, political, and business worlds.

This girl was blessed to have a betrothal with such a good family.

Unfortunately, a sparrow would not become a phoenix.

The youngest son of the Longman family didn't want Vickie, who lived in the countryside for over 20 years, and insisted on canceling their marriage.

If this didn't happen, Mr. Muller probably wouldn't have remembered this daughter.

The butler cleared his throat and continued, "Great, by the way, according to mister, you should change into this evening dress."

"My clothes are newly bought and fine!" Vickie said with feigned pride.

Her bright pink bubble dress looked rustic, and the poor-quality tulle had lost threads.

The butler's face twitched slightly, "This is your father's arrangement. You're a young lady and should not disgrace your family."

Vickie sneered in her heart.

Disgracing her family?

Her father didn't consider it disgraceful to leave her under another's roof and provided her with no financial support.

Now he found her rustic and disgracing!

Canceling marriage?

Whatsoever!

On the surface, Vickie smiled innocently, "I see, thank you."

The butler slightly bowed his head and handed the dress to her.

Vickie took the bag, walked to the bedroom, and soon heard a click from behind her.

The door was locked from outside.

She was shocked.

Her face turned cold as she looked around.

A high-definition camera was set up by the heart-shaped bed, and a pair of handcuffs were under the pillow.

Vickie threw the bag on the bed, and the evening dress fell out.

In fact, those were two pieces of sexy underwear.

She snorted and turned to leave.

All of a sudden, she felt dizzy and collapsed weakly to the floor.

She recalled what happened.

That glass of wine!

She was careful enough but still fell for it!

Just then, she heard the butler talking over the phone outside.

"All set, rest assured."

She looked at the flashing red light on the camera and gritted her teeth...

The butler finished the phone call and suddenly heard a ravishing moan from the bedroom.

"Ah, I'm feeling so hot and uncomfortable. Someone, help!"

He crooked his finger, and a big man came up. "She's all yours!" The butler said.

Without further ado, the brawny man opened the door and got in.

Vickie writhed on the bed, moaning incessantly.

"That's enough, I'm here to help you!" The brawny man closed the door and pounced on her with a lewd smile.

Vickie suddenly opened her eyes that flickered with coldness.

The man stiffened to see her abruptly sitting up and hauling at the wire of the camera.

His foot was roped in. The man stumbled and fell backward.

A sharp pain ensued as a heavy object fell on his leg.

"Watch out!" Vickie hid behind the curtain and laughed mischievously.

The man growled in pain.

Lowering his head, he saw a long, thick wire around his ankle. It was the camera that fell on his leg.

This girl was so cunning!

He unfastened the wire and got up to catch her.

Vickie dodged, and the brawny man got the curtain on his face.

Annoyed, he pulled down the curtain, but the girl was nowhere to be seen.

Just then, a small hand tapped him on the left shoulder. He looked to the left but found no one there.

All of a sudden, his right wrist was grabbed.

Click...

Vickie swiftly handcuffed him to the ledge.

"Bitch! Don't run!" The man reached out to catch her, but Vickie jumped away.

"Don't run? I'm not stupid."

With a smile, she picked up the bedsheet from the floor and opened the door.

Sitting outside, the butler was stunned to see Vickie coming out.

"Miss, you..."

No sooner had his voice died away than his head was covered by the bedsheet.

By the time he scrambled to pull it off, Vickie had pulled out the room card and smirked, "Bye!" She turned around and rushed out.

The room fell into darkness.

The butler got up to give chase. "Ow..." He ran into a coffee table in the front.

He hurriedly took out a walkie-talkie, "Miss Muller ran away! Stop her!"

...

Vickie fled to the elevator and pressed the button to the 26th floor.

It was a banquet hall on that floor. In public, they could do nothing to her.

She calculated to herself.

However, the fight with the two men had consumed most of her energy.

Her legs felt weak, and she almost fell.

When the elevator door opened, she vaguely saw the entrance of the banquet hall.

The carvings on the door looked magnificent under the lights in the corridor.

She rushed over with all her might, flung herself on the door, and patted, "Open the door!"

Just then, the door of the other elevator opened, and people inside shouted, "Get her!"

Vickie pushed the door forcefully and anxiously.

Why was it so heavy?

All of a sudden, the door opened.

"Coming..." A robust arm stretched out and pulled her in.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
