Tonight was one of those nights. I worked here at this place for illicit affairs and don't judge me, they payed better than any other store in the town. I saved enough for my wedding in just a month working here. As I brought another bottle of white wine in an ice bucket to the VIP lounge. Athena, the manager of the place grabbed me and pulled me aside. My heart skipped a bit, afraid that I had made another mistake. "You have to help me". She said, biting down on her lips nervously. "Why? What's wrong?". My eyes did a quick scan across the crowded club, afraid that one of the teenagers had caused another trouble like the last time. "Another teenager?". "No, not at all. It's a VIP guest". I could sense her fear. "Did he touch you?". I frowned angrily. Athena was too cold to work in a place like Skye. "No, No Ruby, you don't get me", she snapped. "The girl I hired to attend to the VIP's today, she called in sick just now...". The moment I looked into her eyes, I knew where she was headed with this. "Hell No!". I protested. "I told you already, I can't handle those people". "I know, I know but I really need your help".

My Mates, Their Enemies Chapter 1 Night owl

RUBY'S POV.

Night Owl, an odd name for an odd place, no one really knew what happened in here but one thing was for certain, it was a club for the rich. Rumors has it that it is where the rich, powerful and dangerous personalities came to satisfy their odd interest both sexually and financially. Night owl was built by a Russian in this little town of Salem, no one knew who he is or his name, for now Night owl was run by a two faced man with multiple talents for killing and swindling people, the notorious, Scar. He was named scar due to the large number of scars that ran across his face giving him a terrifying look, most of the bartenders spread rumours of how his wife and child had left him due to his appearance as he frequently scared their child with his face. It was a joke to all but wasn't to Scar, a couple of bartenders went missing due to this, they were never found. So in night owl, you are first taught to see and remain silent.

To the ordinary eyes, Night Owl was just a club for spoilt rich kids and wealthy bastards but it was a front for something bigger than you could ever imagine.

The club is located at the outskirts of the town, isolated from therest. It was an empty place in the daytime but sprang to life at nightand while the young partied and squandered their money on women and alcohol upstairs with loud music blaring from the speakers, thebig dangerous men convened in a secret room under the club, shielded by the noise of the club, carrying out their dangerous affairsunderneath.

"I can't Athena, Adam would be so upset if he found out that I was attending to the VIP's".

"I won't tell him, I promise". She crossed her heart, looking up at me desperately.

"I still can't", I began to walk away.

"I'll pay double, double your pay". I turned around sharply to find her biting down on her lips, this must be out of her own pay check. I grinned sheepishly at her words.

"Once the night is over, I'll pay", she added quickly.

"Alright then, we have a deal but only tonight". I warned but she didn't seem to mind, she only smiled at me and hurried off.

"They would be arriving shortly, you should be outside to welcome them". She said, hurrying off to attend to other issues. I sighed deeply and descended the stairs to the main floor, where the teenagers partied. I had worked here long enough to know that these VIP guests were the most dangerous people alive, so I made a mental note to myself to thread carefully.

I stepped outside just in time to see a black SUV pull into the front of the club.

"Great!". I hissed and straightened myself, plastering a fake smile that I had learnt to quickly create regardless of my mood.

A large man dressed in black with dark glasses, stepped out from the front seat and pulled opened the back door for someone, he was obviously the guard. Lucian Greyhound, a tall muscular manstepped out from the car.

The moment I saw him, my eyes twitched, he was the most handsome man I had ever seen, unlike the other Potbellied wealthy bastards that frequented the club, he was different. His eyes were like the clear summer sky and that scent, I racked my brain so hard to find out where I had perceived it before.

His suit clung so sexually to his hot body, he stood two inches taller than me and that was rare, I am a very tall woman even taller than my fiancee, Adam, most people said I looked like a model. His face was heavenly, right out of a magazine, his sharp jawline, slender and full lips with his hair, tussled a bit only made him look sexy. He must be a billionaire, I thought, his demeanor was too expensive to be poor.

Our eyes locked and I felt my legs give way under my body. I struggled to maintain my balance, and then the weirdest thing happened, I felt myself flow into my panties. I rebuked myself immediately, this was wrong, I am engaged to a very great man. When I looked at him again, I remembered what my grandmother used to say, "Where else can a woman condone her dirty thoughts, if not her mind?". I grinned, I needed to cut myself some slack, it's natural to admire men plus I am certain that nothing would ever happen between us.

"Lucian!!!". I heard a female voice shriek behind me. I turned around to find my boss's daughter, Candy rush out of the club to Cling onto his arm but he simply removed her arm politely.

"My father has been waiting". Candy said eagerly, oblivious to his cold gaze.

I shook my head pitifully, girls can be so stupid at times.

"Welcome sir". I said professionally with a smile. He finally looked at me but his expression didn't change he just swept his eyes over me and then looked away. I felt downcast that his eyes had not lingered a bit but to my surprise his eyes flew back to me and it widened as he stared at me in surprise.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.
