Chapter 1 Prologue.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes."

At that moment Peter is called to the stage, there he receives a microphone and starts talking about his newest red casino, he looked like a God exuding power and authority, everyone respected him and boasted with attentive looks at everything he said. Peter Bennet showed everyone that he was a kind man, but because of his dangerous words of double meaning, something tells me that this is all just an act, that everything is just a big manipulation, and to me, he hides his real nature.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am exaggerating, but the way he treats me, especially when he looks at me with a certain obsession, trying to control and manipulate me... there are no doubts. Peter leaves the stage and everyone claps warmly for his beautiful words, he goes back to his table and the pianist starts playing again. I warn Ethan that I am going to the restroom and leave the hall. I walk around the casino and find a restroom nearby, I enter the place and approach a sink, I look at myself in the mirror, I was serious. I am a pile of emotions, I don't know what my real feelings are to Peter, but seeing him next to someone else makes me uncomfortable.

I hear the door being opened, I quickly look at the entrance, I see him walking through the door with a serious expression, Peter walks towards me as if nothing had happened.

"What are you doing here?"

"Why are you near that man?"

"The same way you are near that woman."

"I asked you to wait for me, not to get cute with the first one who comes along."

"I wasn't making fun of anyone, I was just talking."

"That's not what it looked like."

"Think what you want."

I turned my back ready to leave the bathroom, however, Peter grabbed my arm and pulled me into his body, holding me in his arms with a terrifying expression on his face, I tried to free myself, but he overpowered me easily.

"Let's get out of this bathroom together and go to a table, you will sit next to me and be quiet."

"Do you really think I'm going to stay near that woman?"

"Are you jealous, dove?"

"Of you? No!"

"Of course you are, but let's not sit next to the pretty blonde."

"If you think she's pretty, you should have come with her and not made me come."

"You're making me horny, my raging pussycat..." Peter brushed his full lips against mine and kissed my neck, my skin shivered rapidly.

"No..." I try to protest and push him away from me, but the strength of his arms stop me and make my body soften in surrender

"Come, let's play a little doll." Peter released my body from his grasp and circled his palm in mine, then pulled me out of the bathroom.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
