Chapter 1 The hunt

Everyone in Wolf Town knows about Midnight, but it wasn't always that way. Midnight used to be a lone wolf who kept to himself. He wasn't happy, but he was content. From birth, Midnight's coat was so dark that it made him look like a shadow in the light and nearly invisible in the dark. However, this has led to some awkward encounters, such as when he stumbled upon his parents exercising.

Midnight loved his childhood and often dreamed about taking over as pack enforcer from his dad, which was just one step below the alpha. He was raised well and taught to be strong, independent, courageous, and kind. He always stood up for the underwolves, which made him unpopular among the pack alpha's son, Jua.

One day, the pack alpha summoned Jua and Midnight to round up the youth wolves for a hunt. The one who captured the biggest stag would win a lot of popularity in the pack. Jua set off quickly with his pack of five very obedient and strong wolves. Midnight, on the other hand, went alone, despite the protest of some of his comrades.

During the hunt, Jua blocked Midnight's path and told him to find his own prey. Midnight followed his instincts and ran the opposite way. He soon found two majestic stags leading a large herd of deer. Midnight watched them and knew that even his dad could not bring down those beasts. They were young, strong, and known as the "wolf killers."

Midnight formulated a plan. He used the stalk freeze hunting technique that he had learned from his mother until he was beside one of the stags. He waited for the moment where the stag's cut above his left eye made his vision hazy. Midnight pounced and overpowered the stag.

As he rested after the fight, Jua and his pack found him. Jua saw that Midnight's stag was way bigger than their pack had ever seen and attacked him. They fought fiercely, but Midnight defeated Jua and his wolves. The fight had led to a new chapter in Midnight's life that started without warning or his consent. His father's words, "life doesn't ask for permission; it just sweeps by and conquers, and every living creature must obey its call," became clearer to Midnight than ever before.
