Zoey looked up to see a distressed Ethan, she held his hands with such frigidity and smiled dryly. Maybe they were made for each other.

Chapter 1 Maybe,not definitely.

Zoey was a quiet girl, well maybe not so quiet but she really was reserved. Born to a family of five, her mum, dad,Zoey being the first child and two other siblings: Brittany and Evans.

It was a nice little family, happy and contended not until she lost her mother- Mrs Williams, to the cold hands of death.

Rumor had it that she lost her life to a deadly disease-cancer.

Being the first child meant responsibilities for Zoey, which was quite too much to be shouldered by a 16 year old. Nevertheless, she never complained and went about her duties each day.

She took her siblings to school everyday and back, cooked lunch and dinner also never forgetting to do their homework.

Mr Williams was sad about the passing of his dear wife but there was not much he could do about it.

Soon,it was time for Zoey to attend college but this wasn't very well received by her family members. Who will take care of her siblings? Her dad?

Well, they had to let her go at the end.

College life was interesting and she didn't make lots of friends but that was okay.

Soon, she joined the work force and started working.

For Zoey, working felt like what she needed to do and not what she had to do. Never once thought about romance or kiss because she never really had the chance to do that, boys were a distraction and she didn't need that now.

Boys did approach her but she turned them away.

Zoey wasn't with her family, sending them money was a ritual she did every month. Barely having what to eat herself she pushed further. She shared an apartment with a colleague-Jessy.

Jessy,a happy young lady whose fetishes are chocolates, romance and what nots.

She didn't really like Zoey at first but grew to like her saying why she got close to her was because she never talked. Even if she did, she picked at words like a hen would pick at pebbles.

They got along really well and bonded quite well too. Maybe it was because they were so different.

It was a windy Saturday in Zoey's apartment when Jessy let out a loud shriek:

"Zoey".. ''there's something in my room''..she ran there and it was a spider.

Zoey laughed and Jessy couldn't help but notice an aura about that laugh.

"Wow, you're so pretty when you laugh and even more when you smile." She said.

Zoey couldn't contain her shyness and let out a muffled thank you.

The air was awkward at this point and they both burst out laughing again, this time around so loudly and Zoey felt her spirit being back again.

The last time she laughed this loud was before her mother died.

"I miss her" she said with tears in her eyes.

Jessy pulled her into a hug and patted her on the back.

Soon it was night time and they had their dinner in silence.

Monday came by quickly and it was the same schedule, six months went by quickly and it seemed as though a fierce breeze blew through the months.

Jessy had gone to a party and it was only Zoey at the apartment.

She reminisced at old memories and she phoned her father.

They talked for what seemed like ages and then she ended the call.

Was she lonely, this was her life.

Standing up,she changed into summer wears and determined to go out and take a walk.

Trudging along the flowery parts, she smelled the air and smiled so widely.

Life was good,and she's happy.

"Grrr..grrr" her phone rang and it was Jessy.

"Hello, Zoey you're not home?"

"Yes,I went out for a walk."

"Alone?" She inquired.

"Uhm".

They spoke for a few more seconds and hung up.

Zoey got home about five minutes later. Upon entering the apartment, she was quite startled by the crowd she met. Jessy had brought people to the house. It was so loud she had to hold her ears with her hands, run to her room and lock it.

Apparently, they were throwing a party to celebrate whatever.

She slept off and woke up to see a dejected Jessy with puffy eyes. Had she cried all night?

Zoey muttered something that sounded like a good morning and Jessy replied her.

They had a breakfast consisted of bacon and eggs with tea.

After breakfast, they went to work together.

There was nothing fun about work,at least to Zoey right? You just work to earn money. She never really thought that maybe the work might lead her to whom she'll forever love.

They went back to the apartment together, tired and dejected.

"Would you love to go to the shopping complex with me?" Jessy asked.

"Yes,I'm a little bored so seeing those pretty things displayed will light me up."

"Okay,get ready let's go."

A huge smile was plastered on Zoey's face as they set out.

They got there and picked a few things.

Zoey made to reach for the milk and her hand brushed someone's.

She looked at the person and it was a man. Wasn't he a little too pretty to be a man? Zoey thought.

"I'm sorry." Zoey exclaimed.

"It's alright."

Jessy and Zoey got to the apartment and put away the things they bought.

But Zoey couldn't help thinking about the little interaction she had with the stranger. She could swear that was the most beautiful voice she had heard in a long time. This wasn't the time for romance but why was her heart beating fast?

Her face turned red and Jessy noticed.

"Are you okay?"

"Well,I suppose so."

"You don't look fine to me." Jessy probed further.

"Iiiii.. I'm fine." Zoey stuttered.

Jessy left her and went to cook dinner. She was soon done and they were eating in silence once again.

"Have you ever liked someone?" Zoey asked.

"Yes,of course." Jessy replied.

"Okay..how did you do it?"Zoey asked further.

"Do what?" Jessy let out a dry laugh.

"Like,go about it?"

"I chased him." Jessy said.

"I met this guy today, at the shopping complex."
