Lil Ward was given a task by an old man named Cain. His mission was to eradicate a hundred wicked people in the world. He realized that killing people was an unjust thing itself, but though he didn't want to kill, he could not control his power that was forcing him to commit the heinous crime. Lil became busy helping people, but he was also killing the bad ones. One day, he met a girl named Kaila Breaks, with whom he didn't expect to fall in love. Lil hid everything about his power from Kaila, because he knew that she would leave him if she knew that he was a murderer. In contrast to Lil's expectations, Kaila also had a power from the wicked woman named Alicia. Kaila was also using her power to kill those bad people, because of the task that was given to her by Alicia. One day, the path of Lil and Kaila would meet. The hundredth people that they needed to kill was themselves in order to get rid from the curses of Cain and Alicia. The tale will tell you how Lil and Kaila were destined to fight against each other. Will they change their fate? Who will sacrifice oneself to make the other survive? Will they just let destiny decide everything? Which one is more important to them, love or freedom?

The Search for Freedom Chapter 1 The Trouble I Caused

Lil

The sun was going down on the horizon. I could hear my own footsteps while walking down the street. I came from our school. The very old and wrinkled structures were aligned on both sides of the streets. Some people were sitting calmly on the chairs outside their huge houses while those children were playing hide and seek. After a few minutes of walking, I arrived at the front of our house. Our house was just simple, and we were just as simple too.

My mother was a vendor, while my father was a peasant. They both had not completed their schooling. My mother had only finished her elementary days, and my father was in high school. Because their families were indigent, they were forced to stop schooling and work instead. But though we were poor, my parents were rich in love. They always provided my necessities, such as shelter, food, clothing, learning, and love.

I sometimes dream of becoming rich. I was envious of my classmates whose parents were giving them everything they wanted, such as fancy clothes, and gadgets. I was envious of other people who lived in huge houses and did nothing but sit on their chairs and play Mahjong with the other wealthy people.

The door thudded, and I noticed my mother was wearing her usual plain, green shirt with a stain in the center; when I was younger, I mistook that stain for an eye, and I was afraid to look at it. My mother was wearing old leggings and sneakers too. I knew she was hard to get to buy her own things; she was always wearing her old clothes.

My parents worked every day, though sometimes they could not eat their meals just to get to work early. My father was a farmer who owned a small piece of land for cultivation, and my mother was the one who sold the harvests from our farm.

For me, my mother was the most beautiful woman in the world. Her deep brown eyes seemed to tell me how much she cared; her pointed nose, brown skin, and lips that never get dry. Though she was always working, she still had time for herself, for me, and for my father.

"Oh! Son, what happened to your forehead?" She asked.

I touched my brow and felt a bit of pain. The thing seemed wet. As I looked at my finger, I saw a dark, red liquid with an inexplicable smell. I knew it was made by those boys who could do nothing in their lives but wait for their victims in the streets. But even though there were many bullies who always hurt me, I'd never told my mother and especially my father, because he would surely find a way to punish them.

"Nothing, I just bumped myself on the pole," I lied.

"Come in and we will cure that," my mother replied. "You don't feel pain?"

Though I made too many mistakes, my mother never get mad. She was always telling me that "we cannot go back in the past and change what we have done wrong. Let us live in the present time and get our lessons from it, so that we can't do it again in the future."

"Aw!" I exclaimed. "Please make it easy. It hurts." I complained, whimpering, and trying to avoid my mother's fingers touching the wound on my forehead.

"Sorry, but it's just a small wound, so stop overacting," my mother replied.

"Hey, what happened to that child?" My father got inside the house, hung his hat on the peg, and sat down on the wooden chair beside us.

I knew he came from the farm because he looked exhausted and the moisture on his face and neck had diffused. My father was the most handsome man in the world, though sometimes he was unkind, somewhat cruel and overprotective. He had a high-pointed nose, short black hair, which took a long time to grow, and round, brown eyes.

"He said he accidentally bumped himself into the pole," Mom replied.

"Birdbrained, and you also believe in your child? He might be fighting with those street boys, because a mark from the pole wasn't the same as that wound which looked like it was from a sharp object?" He guessed.

My father was an intensely strict man! He didn't want me to fool around. However, I knew that even though he was a hard wall, acting as a column in our house, he still cared about me and my mother. But I could not be free from his cage because he was so inquisitive.

My mother defended, "You're not an investigator, Jay. I know that our son would not fool around; he's already old enough to know what's right and wrong. Am I right, Lil?"

"Yeah, I'm not doing anything wrong; I just came from school," I agreed.

"Good," my father said, "but if we know you're doing something wrong, we won't show you any sympathy; instead, we'll aggravate your wounds."

"Can you just stop threatening your child?" Mother asked. "He's already big, and soon he'll have a girlfriend and start his own family."

"That's what you will never do as long as we don't allow you to. You have to finish your study first before you can have a girlfriend. You're just sixteen, and the responsibility of being a father isn't as easy as you think!"

I tried to convince them, "Don't worry, mom and dad, I will help you first before making my own family," although I knew they wouldn't believe me.

"You don't need to do that, son; just do the things that you want. As long as you're not hurting others, don't feel sorry for them," Mother said.

"Leona!? Maybe that's the reason why your son is getting stubborn, because you are always letting him do anything he wants to," my father scowled.

"But what's wrong with that, Jay?" My mother stood up and exclaimed. "Why are you always mad even though there's no reason to be?"

"Here we are again. I'm just telling the truth; I'm hoping that you will realize it," he defended.

"Telling the truth? I'm hoping you can realize that whatever you're going to say to Lil, he's still our one and only son."

Hearing and seeing my parents fight in front of me, I suddenly stood up and exclaimed, "Please stop this! If you will fight because of me, maybe it will be better if I leave this house, so that you won't fight anymore."

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.
