"You wanna try and be my medicine, Lilah?" He asked with a deep testing tone, keeping his voice quiet. "I can try." I breathe out as I gulp when his grip tightens "Try me." His hand slides up my throat, his long fingers wrapping tight around my jaw. "That's what you really want?" I nodded, sighing out a shallow yes, and I could see every muscle in his body tense, as he wets his lips; hoarsely murmuring his next sentence like its his last try at making me change my mind. "I'm dangerous, Lilah, this is your last chance." My stomach twists and knots, as I use every ounce of bravery I have. "Prove it then."

Chapter 1 Prologue

"Mind if I join?" His cold not-so-deep manly voice sounded in my ear.

I do wanna imagine I was actually imagining him asking me that, but no! He's actually standing behind me.

I looked up at him, hiding my anxiety with the best smile I can ever give. "Sure."

"Nice outfit." He complimented.

"Nice suit."

"Do you work here?" He asked.

"Nah, not really. I only come when hired." I replied, my voice seems like it's fading. I placed my glass of wine in my mouth, sipping on it.

This isn't my proudest moment, but I had no option.

Mrs Mills looks at me over her shoulder, giving me a 'what the fu*k are you doing' look to which I mouth back a frantic 'I don't know.'

"Which days do you work?" He asked again, I was beginning to feel like the conversation should come to an end already.

"Weekends."

But then, he's still standing right in front of me. I flick my eyes to his, heat spreading over my cheeks and I am so god damn relieved the lightning is red, otherwise I'd look like an idiot.

Or... more like an idiot.

I stared down at the counter, just play dead. He won't notice and he'll leave. Or he'll probably think you're insane and give up anyway.

All my ideas are shattered when the same face leans down to my view, an amused smirk played on his dangerous lips.

"Hiding from some thing, love?"

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
