Everything started when Kristopher, confined to a wheelchair, told everyone that Sandra was just a gold-digger. In a fit of pique, Sandra announced that he was a one-minute man who couldn't satisfy anyone in bed. Later, Kristopher said, "Sandra is a seductress who wreck all the men around her." "Kristopher killed his family. He's a wicked man. Besides, he's also impotent," Sandra retorted, unwilling to back down. Kristopher cornered her against a wall and asked furiously, "What is this I hear about you calling me impotent?" Sandra folded her arms defiantly. "What? You are handsome and rich. Many women throw themselves at you. Of course, I have to scare them away." Kristopher couldn't help smiling. "What a coincidence! I was doing the same thing." Would the lovers ever agree that they were in love with each other? Only one way to find out...

Lovers At War Chapter 1 I'll Give You As Much Money As You Want

"Admit to Monica's crimes and serve a simple five-year term. I promise your mother will be safe. Once released, you'll still be regarded as the lady of the Hussain family. This is actually a bargain. Take it if you're smart!"

--

Five years later, Sandra Hussain emerged from her prison term only to find the Hussains disowning her and barring her from seeing her mother.

Her sister Monica Hussain even threatened her to terminate her engagement with Darryl Owen, the Owen family heir, or forfeit any chance of meeting her mother.

Sandra yielded, agreeing to dissolve her engagement with Darryl. Yet, her grandmother, Theresa Hussain, the family matriarch, insisted she marry someone else within three days.

To marry someone else in such haste? Fresh from her incarceration, they seemed to be pushing her towards a hasty and undesirable match to thwart her future.

Despite her reluctance, she complied just so she could finally be with her mother.

Now she had a mere three days to break ties with Darryl.

Learning that Darryl dwelt in the opulent Gale Mansion, she headed there directly.

Clad in the same white dress from half a decade past, her hair in a plain ponytail, she appeared unsophisticated at a glance.

Yet her bare face shone clear and bright, her natural beauty suggesting an underlying charm.

At eighteen, her visage was yet to mature. Now, five years later, her beauty blossomed.

Sandra evaded observation and chose the stairs, reaching Darryl's room undetected.

As her hand grazed the door in preparation to knock, it creaked open under her touch.

Peering inside, she inquired, "Is anyone in here? Mr. Owen? May I enter?"

Her question hung unfinished in the air as an imposing hand clasped her arm, yanking her into the room.

Within moments, she found herself ensnared against a robust frame.

The man's faint yet captivating scent enveloped her, sending tingles through her body.

Struggling to break free from his grip, she was instead effortlessly twirled and pressed against the door.

A sharp click signaled the door locking.

Sandra's gaze lifted to the towering figure behind her. The room's dim light veiled his face, yet she presumed this must be Darryl since it was his room.

His breath warm against her cheek, drawing nearer to her ear, Sandra sensed that something was off.

In that instant, the man leaned into Sandra, his body pressing against hers, and murmured into her ear with a seductive undertone, "Help me, and I'll give you as much money as you want."

The mention of paying her made Sandra recoil, suspecting Darryl had confused her with a woman of the night. Incensed, she swung her hand to deliver a slap, but found her strength waning.

Within moments, her body turned feeble and mute, unable to utter a sound.

Taking advantage of her vulnerability, he scooped her up and strode towards the bed.

Time blurred as Sandra wrestled with her feeble state until at last, she broke free. But freedom brought no solace, as she discovered her naked body under the sheets.

The sound of water cascading in the bathroom jogged her memory. Her initial intent had been to sever the ties of engagement with Darryl. Such a reunion after the decade-long gap was definitely not what she had envisioned.

The recent misadventure in the room had deviated horribly, and she didn't want things to become more awkward than they already were.

Resolved, Sandra cast away the sheets, climbed out of bed, and scrambled for her clothes.

On the brink of departure, the man's murmur echoed in her mind. "I'll give you as much money as you want."

Feeling offended, Sandra searched her bag, found a coin, and left it on the nightstand with a hastily penned note.

Yet, as she reached for the door to leave, the knob twisted from the other side.

The door was being opened from the outside.

Sandra's ears caught an outside voice as she sidestepped. "Mr. Darryl, my boss is truly unwell..."

Her heart missed a beat.

Was that Darryl out there? And if so, who was the man behind the bathroom door?

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I stood in the darkest corner of the Pierre Hotel’s ballroom, my cheap polyester dress itching against my skin while my wristband buzzed with a DARPA Priority Red alert. In front of the city’s elite, my fiancé Bryce Calloway took the stage, not to toast our future, but to publicly end our engagement and announce he was with my sister, Chloe. The room turned on me instantly, a hundred pairs of eyes pinning me down with pity and disgust as they physically backed away like I was contagious. When I returned home, my mother shattered a crystal vase at my feet, screaming that I was a humiliation and a "dropout" who didn't deserve a cent of the family fortune. Chloe and Bryce mocked me, laughing when I told them I had a mission with the National Security Agency, convinced I was either a pathological liar or a low-level criminal. They watched in horror as a black, unmarked military helicopter descended on our backyard to extract me, yet they still chose to believe I was being arrested for drug trafficking. They saw a pathetic girl who couldn't even parallel park, never realizing I was Dr. Nova Vance, the lead physicist behind the world's first successful fusion reactor. To secure funding for my research and gain a "fortress" of a name, I signed a thirty-day marriage contract with the arrogant billionaire Roman Knight. He treats me like a fraud, convinced I’m a gold-digger who failed out of college, while I quietly run global energy simulations from his guest bedroom. He has no idea that the "loser" he’s forced to live with is the same anonymous grandmaster who has been ruthlessly crushing him in online strategy games for months. "The contract is active," I told him, looking past his expensive suit. "But don't expect me to be your maid."

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."
