Lucian was always disgusted by Giselle. Nothing she ever did was good in his eyes. Even though she did everything to win his love, he never acknowledged her efforts for three years. Giselle saw hell. When she finally decided to leave him, she felt like she had been given a new lease on life. She decided to stay away from men and focus on her career. Lucian thought she was going to suffer and come back running to him. But to his greatest surprise, she appeared as the CEO of the company that rivaled his. Who the hell had he been married to? Lucian was beyond shocked when he found out that Giselle had several secret identities. All in one, she was a respected lawyer, an ace hacker, and a leading designer! More than anything, Lucian felt cheated. He cornered her one day and yelled, "Who the fuck are you, Giselle? How much have you been hiding from me?" "And who are you to ask me such a question? I don't know you, remember?" Giselle yelled back and brushed past him. Giselle thought he would bury his head in shame after she talked back. Little did she know she was in for a big surprise. Somehow, Lucian fell head over heels in love with her. He used many tricks just to win her back. "Let's get remarried, Giselle. I love you," he said passionately. With her hands on her waist, she replied, "Oh, honey. I'm sorry that's impossible." "But you are the only one for me. I can't live without you. I'm sorry for my past actions." Giselle had a good laugh and then looked at him. Clenching her teeth, she enunciated each word, "It's too late now to say sorry." Can love be restored where it never existed?

A Second Chance After Divorce Chapter 1 Divorce

Click! The door swung open abruptly.

Giselle Murphy, who had been seated on the couch in a state of listlessness, was jolted back to alertness.

Just half an hour earlier, she had received a distressing call from her husband, Lucian Clifford. He informed her that his darling, Erin Brooks, required another blood transfusion and urged her to prepare herself.

Erin had once saved Lucian's life, a fact she never let Lucian forget. She exploited her supposed anemia to evoke his sympathy.

Back then, Giselle's love for Lucian was profound, almost to the point of self-loss. Aware that both she and Erin shared the rare same blood type, Giselle made a vow. She promised Lucian that in exchange for his hand in marriage, she would be Erin's lifelong donor.

Having been wanting to marry Lucian, Erin was infuriated by this term, yet she couldn't reveal her deceit. Declining the deal by admitting she didn't need the blood from Giselle would raise Lucian's suspicions. More of her schemes and lies would be exposed. So, Erin resorted to a cruel tactic. She demanded blood from Giselle incessantly, effectively sentencing Giselle to a slow demise.

Giselle sensed something was amiss over time. Eventually, Giselle uncovered the bitter truth. Erin's anemia was a fabrication!

Giselle tried to tell Lucian about her discovery, but he refused to listen. Instead, he accused her of malicious intent, believing she wished to see Erin die.

With Lucian's unwavering faith, Erin was confident Lucian would force Giselle into donating blood for her forever.

For three long years, Giselle complied, all out of her love for Lucian.

Seeing Giselle was impeccably dressed, Lucian announced indifferently, "Let's go."

Giselle lifted her gaze to see Lucian. Lucian was clad in a black suit, his features sharp and defined.

For three long years, she had given him her heart. Yet, he saw her only as a means for the blood transfusions for Erin.

However, she was anemic, a fact he knew well. He was also aware that she couldn't afford to lose any more blood.

Feeling as if her heart were bleeding, Giselle managed to remark in a calm tone, "Normally speaking, people can't donate blood more than once a month. Yet, you demand it from me every two weeks. Do you understand the toll it takes on my health? Lucian, do you wish to see me dead?"

Lucian's response came with a sneer, his eyes filled with blatant scorn. "So what? Didn't you agree to give blood whenever needed, as long as we stay married? Can't you endure this anymore?"

Giselle's hands clenched tightly, her fingers whitening with the strain.

He only noticed her reluctance to donate blood this time, completely blind to the pain she endured after each session.

She had hoped repeated sacrifices might earn his sympathy. But what was the reality?

Lucian's patience wore thin upon seeing Giselle's defiance. His voice was sharp. "Giselle, I see right through you. Had you not been the very donor for Erin, you would never have become my wife. I always know your greedy side!"

His words pierced Giselle's heart, each one a deep, painful stab.

"Greedy, am I?" Giselle's laughter rang out, tinged with irony.

The Murphy Group was on par with the Clifford Group. As a Murphy and leader of the Murphy Group, personal gains after being Lucian's wife were never a necessity for Giselle.

For three years, Giselle concealed her true identity and sacrificed everything just to be with Lucian. She never exploited the identity of Lucian's wife for any personal gain. And the outcome? How did he treat and see her?

Pathetically, Lucian had always seen her as jealous and petty, believing she never wanted to save Erin's life, even after she donated blood for Erin numerous times. What about her well-being? Did that ever cross his mind?

"If you're not going to donate blood for Erin, then our marriage is over," Lucian stated coldly, snapping Giselle back to reality.

Hearing his words, a sad smile crossed Giselle's face. This moment was inevitable, wasn't it?

Giselle sighed silently. Indeed, their marriage should have come to an end a long time ago. He never loved her and always despised her for forcing him to tie the knot with her with that deal. She shouldn't have fallen in love with him. Besides, why should she abandon a promising future ahead of her just to be the unappreciated wife of a man who harmed her in every way?

Drawing a deep breath, Giselle retrieved a document from the drawer.

Emblazoned at the top were the words: Divorce Agreement.

Her signature was already there, at the bottom right.

Lucian's reaction was immediate, his pupils constricting. But before he could speak, Giselle stated calmly, "As you wish, we'll get a divorce. I don't want anything from you. All I want is to divorce you. For years, I've allowed you to harm my well-being just to be with you. Time to stop it. Lucian, sign this paper and you'll be free. We'll have no obligations to each other after the divorce."

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I arrived at my uncle’s mansion looking like human trash, clutching a one-way bus ticket and a duffel bag stuffed with old newspaper. My aunt looked at me with pure disgust, as if she could smell the poverty on my skin, but they needed me for one thing: to be a sacrificial lamb. They told me I was getting married to Julian Sterling, a man the elite circles called a violent monster locked in a cage. My uncle forced me to sign away my soul to save their failing fortune, while my cousin Kayla laughed and threw a torn dress at my feet, calling me a "rat from the Rust Belt." At the Sterling estate, the nightmare only deepened. Julian’s stepmother treated me like a horse she was forced to buy, ordering the staff to "burn off" my hair before locking me in the West Wing. I was thrown into a padded cell with a man who lunged at me, his heavy chains rattling against the floor as he roared with an animalistic rage that had already killed two nurses. They thought I was a pathetic, uneducated girl who "didn't read so good." They didn't know I had extorted two million dollars from my uncle before walking out the door, or that I was secretly recording every slap and insult they threw at me for future leverage. I huddled in the corner of that dark cell, letting them watch me tremble on the security feeds. I let Julian’s sister strike me with a riding crop and splash water in my face, playing the role of the clumsy, sobbing idiot to perfection. But the moment the cameras looped, the scared girl vanished. I pinned the "monster" to the floor, cut the neural tracking chip out of his neck with a hidden scalpel, and whispered into his ear as his blue eyes finally cleared. They thought they were sending a lamb to the slaughter. They had no idea they were sending a wolf to hunt a beast.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.
