Stupid Alpha's mate Chapter 1 One

Sally's POV

"Sally, why are you always so stubborn?" My grandfather's voice shouted, waking me up from my sleep. Sitting upright on my bed, I gasped, taking in some air to fill my lungs again. It was just a dream - no, more like my typical nightmare.

Suddenly I realized that my nightgown was soaked with sweat. My hair stuck to my face and neck, and obviously, I was sweating.

I'm a hundred percent sure that the air conditioner was working fine yesterday, I think. But for some reason, this morning, I felt like I was sleeping in a human-sized oven because it was so hot. Although deep inside me, I had a thought that Grandpa intentionally cut off the air cooling system just to torture me or maybe it was broken.

Right now, that's the least of my problems to worry about. I got out of bed, took a cold shower, and got ready for school. My class was going to start at 9 a.m. but the clock on my bedroom wall showed it was only 6:30 a.m. Rolling my eyes, I headed towards the bathroom because I needed to get out of there.

I decided to skip breakfast, again. Just because I don't want to eat with my grandfather and his dark brooding aura lingers over my personal space, especially early in the morning. And everyone knows how badly it will end.

On my way to school, I stopped by a convenience store and bought myself an ice cream, I had been craving it since yesterday.

The middle-aged woman who owned the shop gave me a strange look when she got me the ice cream. Handing her the money, I gave the woman a small smile as I grabbed my ice cream and exited the checkout counter to continue my usual route to school. It's not every day that I laugh or eat ice cream in the morning, but today I needed something cold to calm down.

As I mentioned, what happened early this morning was just another nightmare of mine. It's a recurring vision that I'm still uncomfortable revealing and it makes me hate going to sleep - sometimes, when it gets out of control, I have to force myself to stay awake and no matter how hard I try No matter how hard I try, eventually, I will fall asleep.

I sighed in relief when my school was in sight. My legs increased speed. Taking my phone out of the back pocket of my jeans, I looked at the time, it was 7:45 a.m.

"What am I going to do?" There was an hour and fifteen minutes left until class started. I glanced around the strangely foggy-looking campus while deciding whether I should stay and wait in class or go somewhere else like my secret gazebo.

No one knew about the gazebo's location except my best friend, Athena, and me. I found it during my freshman year and a lot has happened since then.

I passed by the Information Technology department and headed towards the forest behind the school that covered half of the campus. The gazebo is just a few steps from the forest entrance.

Finally arriving at my destination, I sat inside the gazebo. I didn't forget to take out the black leather-covered A4 sketchbook that Athena gave me as a gift on my 20th birthday. Drawing is my passion. I sketch everything except people because I'm simply terrible at drawing people no matter how hard I try.

Lately, I've been obsessed with all kinds of glorious animals like rare breeds of white tigers. However, they are not the type I am talking about, what piqued my interest were the wolves. They are the things that fill my mind and my sketchbook - half the book is filled with sketches and doodles of them.

I don't know why, but maybe because I've read too many novels involving werewolves, vampires, witches, and all those supernatural creatures - I blame Athena because she forced me must read all of them, although I have to admit that half of the books she recommends are very good.

But back to what I was saying, otherworldly creatures are fascinating. Despite their greatness, I will not comment on their existence because they are just stories based on imagination.

After sketching for a few minutes, I felt waves of exhaustion wash over me. I think I have a problem with sleeping in my own house because as soon as I put my head on the bag, I fell asleep, just like that.

I'm not sure how long I slept because the only thing I felt next was someone shaking my left shoulder, waking me up, I could tell very harshly. I could have sworn that person shook me so hard it seemed to dislocate my shoulder.

"What?" I sat up, looked around, panicked.

The person who woke me up was heard snorting. Turning my head to look towards the sound, I saw her standing behind me as she spoke. "Wake up, otherwise you'll be late for class."

Athena! I groaned in frustration.

Without wasting another breath, I packed my sketchbook, pencils, and bag into my backpack, and we hurried to our first class of the day, Art History.

I heard Athena panting as she ran. I forgot that she is a slow runner. However, we entered the classroom just a few seconds before the professor arrived. I was about to sit in my usual seat, but apparently, someone else had taken that spot.

I didn't want to argue with anyone early in the morning over a seat, so I sat behind my old seat. I couldn't help but glare at that person. He has stylish, fringed, champagne-colored hair. He was facing out the window, so I couldn't see his face earlier when I walked up. I ignored him and paid attention to the rest of the class.

I quickly made a mental note, that next time I'd go to class before anyone else, so I wouldn't have to deal with this type of situation. I know that we're allowed to sit anywhere, but I like that seat and I've been sitting there since I started my freshman year.

I stood in the darkest corner of the Pierre Hotel’s ballroom, my cheap polyester dress itching against my skin while my wristband buzzed with a DARPA Priority Red alert. In front of the city’s elite, my fiancé Bryce Calloway took the stage, not to toast our future, but to publicly end our engagement and announce he was with my sister, Chloe. The room turned on me instantly, a hundred pairs of eyes pinning me down with pity and disgust as they physically backed away like I was contagious. When I returned home, my mother shattered a crystal vase at my feet, screaming that I was a humiliation and a "dropout" who didn't deserve a cent of the family fortune. Chloe and Bryce mocked me, laughing when I told them I had a mission with the National Security Agency, convinced I was either a pathological liar or a low-level criminal. They watched in horror as a black, unmarked military helicopter descended on our backyard to extract me, yet they still chose to believe I was being arrested for drug trafficking. They saw a pathetic girl who couldn't even parallel park, never realizing I was Dr. Nova Vance, the lead physicist behind the world's first successful fusion reactor. To secure funding for my research and gain a "fortress" of a name, I signed a thirty-day marriage contract with the arrogant billionaire Roman Knight. He treats me like a fraud, convinced I’m a gold-digger who failed out of college, while I quietly run global energy simulations from his guest bedroom. He has no idea that the "loser" he’s forced to live with is the same anonymous grandmaster who has been ruthlessly crushing him in online strategy games for months. "The contract is active," I told him, looking past his expensive suit. "But don't expect me to be your maid."

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

I went to the New York City Clerk's office to handle a simple administrative matter, but the woman behind the glass handed me a nightmare instead. It was a certified marriage license from Clark County, Nevada, filed exactly three months ago. My vision blurred as I read the name in the spouse field: Baxter Noel. I was legally married to the ruthless billionaire whose legal team was currently suing me for intellectual property theft and trying to destroy my career. I remembered the conference in Las Vegas and a drink that tasted far too sweet, followed by a twelve-hour black hole in my memory that I had chalked up to exhaustion. When I sought help at my family's estate, my stepmother and sister didn't offer comfort; they stole my passport, shredded my clothes, and framed me for academic plagiarism to strip away my university fellowship. Even Baxter himself looked me in the eye with cold indifference, claiming he didn't know me and promising to have me arrested for fraud if I ever showed him that document again. Within twenty-four hours, I was homeless, jobless, and being hunted by the most powerful man in the city. I couldn't understand why a man who "eats people for breakfast" would be caught in the same trap as a struggling scientist like me. The confusion turned to pure terror when I looked at the witness signature on the license: Gene Mcclain. My mother, who was supposed to have died in a car crash ten years ago, had signed that paper with a fresh, trembling hand only ninety days ago. "I am holding a grenade, and I have no idea when the pin was pulled." Standing in the biting November wind with nothing but a laptop and a marriage license, I realized I was just a pawn in a much deadlier game. I stopped running and began to fight back, determined to use my unwanted status as the billionaire's wife to uncover the truth about the mother who came back from the dead.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
