10:00pm in Ward 134.

"Are you a fool?" A voice said as hot tears rolled down her eyes. She could believe her ears, her eyes and ears couldn't deceive her everybut her heart could contain her sorrow.

"You thought I loved you, why would I?" He said as he laughed at her, watching her cry so hard that her heart aches. He loved bit of her pain till her death.

"Who will love a puppet like you, you don't have a mind of your own, you are just too foolish" he said as she raised her face. With pain in her body and heart, she could only say a word.

"Why?" She asked and he walked to her and raised her face. "Why? You still keep asking why?" He said and left her.

"Because you are you, you have nothing to offer me" he said and she cried loudlg again almost falling of the hospital bed. "Peter, I was there for you, I stood by you" she said trying to wipe off her tears but fresh ones won't stop coming.

"You are not beautiful, you are not wealth, you don't even have a good background, an orphan and to crown it all, you have an heart problem that you need a transplant, and you expect me to borrow funds for you. You don't worth it" Peter said and handed over an envelope to her.

"You are getting married to the president's daughter?" She forced herself to yell in shocked, she read the envelope over and over again, as she couldnt believe her eye still.

"She is all I need and all I got, I'm telling you this, so you can die knowing the truth" he said and arranged his shirt again. He picked up his wallet and phone that was by the bed side.

"And so you might know, this lucky button of yours doesn't belong to me" he said and drop a hold button on the bed. She quickly picked it up like it was her life line, she looked at the button with hopes in her.

"Thanks you" she finally said with a deep sigh. Peter smirked and picked his envelope back. "I won't waste my invite for someone who is dying soon. Take care in hell"

As soon as he walked out, she said crying all over again. She had lost everything she thought was her's. She was clueless on how it started and how it's ending, all she hoped for what death.

"Regina, Clean your tears and don't hurt yourself for a bastard" Mrs Nola, Regina's favorite nurse, said as she walked into the ward with an heavy vase.

She went toward the window, placed the vase down, arranged the flower and closed the window arranging the curtain properly to compliment the vase.

Mrs Nola is a 43 year old matron, who devoted all her life to her work ever since she lost her family to accident. She took it upon herself to be with Regina till she dies, since they could not the heart transplant.

"Maybe death could come quickly" Regina said slowly as she buried her head in the pillow deeply. "Or maybe, it won't comes at all, let me go check on the latest news" she said as she pushed the trash can out.

At exactly 10:00 pm at the ward 801, a man stood in front on the see through glass, staring coldly at the city light.

Even though, it was bright and lovely, his heart was clouded with sadness. His favorite person is dying and he can't help her.

"her body is failing, she is giving up already, it doesn't seem like she is willing to pull through" the doctor checking on the patient placed her tablet down and looked at the man's back.

"Brother, let mother rest, mom wants to rest, please, I know we all want her to stay but we are making her suffer more" Lillian who was the doctor in charge of Mrs Bright said as she wipes off her tears.

"Do what is meant to be done" he said coldly as he steps out of the ward and gently walked and took the elevator. He met an elderly nurse in the elevator.

"Mister, please, can you help me with this vase?" It's too heavy, I can't bend to pick it" the nurse said and Jack looked at the vase.

He wonder how she had brought it into the elevator in the first place, he lifted the vase and walked behind the woman to where she was going.

When they got to ward 134, we stopped and could hear the conversation between the patient and the visitor.

Subconsciously, Jack tightened his teeth in anger. The tears of that girl was hurting his heart greatly, he couldn't say why but he wanted to go inside and punch the face of the visitor.

The door opened and the guy came out, he looked at both the nurse and Jack before leaving. "Thanks Mister, I appreciate your help" nurse Nola said and collected the vase and walked into the ward.

Jack was surprised at her action. He walked back into the elevator and went straight to Lillian's office. He opened the door after few knocks.

"Who is the doctor in charge of the first floor patient?" He asked as his eye met Lillian's questioning gaze.

"It depends on the patients and department" Lilian answered as she was still not clear about the reason the reason for the question.

"What are you planning to do to mum?" He asked and Lilian turned a document to him, "I was planning on bringing this to your office tomorrow, but since you asked" she said.

Jack read through the document and sighs. "No, I don't want my mother shared like meat" he said coldly and Lilian who had expected this reaction touched his hand.

"She is not a piece of meat, she is just a giver" she tried to convince him but Jack closed the document.

"She is my mother, I take the step I want to take for her" he said and threw the document into the paper shredder that was near the door, "don't bring this up ever again" he said and returned to his seat.

"Brother" Lilian called him silently as he doesn't want to provoke him, she understood the pain his brother has gone through. In the whole family, his mother has been the closest to him. Even after Lilian was born, she didn't get so attached to their mother like him.

"Check on the patient in 134, I want to know what's up with her" Jack said and Lilian was shocked.

She typed few words on her laptop before call the ground floor cellar.

"Hello"

"Is that level one?"

"Who is in charge of the patient in room 134"

"Mrs Nola?"

"Is she on duty?"

"Get me in touch with Mrs Nola"

"Oh, yes"

"Come to my office with Miss Regina Adam's file"

"Right away"

"Thanks"

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.
