Chapter 1 The first meeting.

She woke up feeling giddy and resentful of whatever was making the noise – She wouldn't have been up by now.

Hearing the pulse of blood pounding in her temple, she had the impression that her head was full of straws.

She stretched her body languidly across the bed and creaked with a sigh as her joints snapped.

She was still aware of the noise.. No, it wasn't just a noise; there was a ringing sound.

“Fuck it! My phone's alarm!” She grabbed her phone and swiftly turned off the alarm.

“How long has it been ringing? I planned for 6 a.m. Almost seven o'clock now.”

“Ugh,” She reclined in bed and buried her face in the covers, hoping to find some semblance of sleep, but her phone chimed once more.

She grumbled, “Arghh," and glanced at the phone then she realized she had only snoozed the alarm.

She furiously and violently leaped out of bed, then felt her leg strike something really hard.

It was as though a sharp sciatic pain had darted into her left leg, and it took her some time to figure out that it was her table.

"Was it made of steel?!" She shrieked as she leaned back roughly on the bed, squeezing her toes.

“Is it broken now? Why does it ache so much?” She frantically searched the shelves for her ointment. “This is one of the advantages of being arranged!” She cried to herself.

Although she wasn't often disorganized, she hadn't been able to organize her belongings in the last few days.

Her dad - Mr Robin - was an accountant for a bank and was just transferred to one of their branches in the city - Chex.

They moved a week ago and had been quite busy organizing things ever since.

She and her brother were admitted to a new school that was close by. She also needed to locate a new makeup class.

Getting used to a whole new environment and everything was stressful, and she was absolutely worn out.

Ten seconds passed, and then fifteen and twenty, and finally the pain started to pull back like the tide going out. Though she still hadn't located the damn ointment, it was better now and didn't appear to be broken. She was relieved.

After saying her prayers, She rolled up the window curtains and the morning rays directly flashed her eyes.

"What a sight for sore eyes.." She grinned as she watched the sun rise over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, with her fingers partially covering her face.

She also took some time to enjoy the faint chirping of birds and insects before going to the restroom to clean her teeth.

As soon as she stepped downstairs, the sumptuous aroma of spices, seasonings and chicken wafted into her nostrils and she made a beeline for the kitchen.

"Mmm!.. Good morning, mom." She greeted and sniffed in dramatically.

Mrs Robin looked up from the onion she was dicing and discovered She was hobbling towards her.

“Pearl, I don't recall a car accident yesterday.." She tried to figure what was wrong with her.

"It was my room accident and I haven't applied ointment yet." Pearl replied.

"Why?"

"I can't find my ointment, It's high time I worked on my room, It's still a mess." She huffed.

"Let me get you mine." Mrs Robin dropped her knife.

"Thanks." Pearl muttered.

"It isn't for free, chop the remaining onions!" She quickly added.

"But I don't want to.." Pearl grumbled.

“Seems you don't need my ointment." Her mom picked up the knife.

"Fine! fine." She snatched it and continued with the onions. "It's pasta!" She smiled as she figured out what her mom was cooking.

Her mom returned with the ointment pretty faster than expected, That meant her room was already arranged.

"I bet you didn't have to look for this." She commented.

"Ain't like you." Mrs Robin replied curtly.

“Argh," Pearl grumbled as she struggled with the cap.

“Your hands are made of wool?!" Mrs Robin snapped as she grabbed the ointment and opened it at once.

“Waowww," She smiled in exaggerated admiration as she applied it gently on her toes.

After several sniffing and blinking in attempts to stop the artificial tears the onion was generating on her palpebra, she was finally done with it and hurried upstairs.

She decided to take a warm bath, and It was refreshing.

After leaving the restroom, she patted herself dry and grabbed her lotion. "It's finishing," she whispered to herself as she gave her body a fairly thorough, calming massage.

She brushed her hair, put on the hair oil, and pulled it back into a ponytail. And honestly, When Rihanna said *shine bright like a diamond*, Her forehead really took it personal.

She got into her new school uniform which includes the typical plaid skirt, collared buttoned shirt with a tie and blazer.

She took a quick look in the mirror, grabbed her backpack, and hurried downstairs.

“Mom, hurry! I'm going to be late!"

Though her mother had started serving her food, she still needed to get her to hurry up.

“Like you're ever early." Her mom scoffed.

“That was back then, mama; I've evolved. New school, Fresh system.” She defended.

"I hope so." Mrs. Robin gave a shrug, indicating that she was not convinced.

She handed over her meal and stared as Pearl started to dig in hurriedly.

She could feel her gaze on her;

"What?" She said with a mouthful.

“Nobody is stealing your food from you! Or are you unwell?" She asked with concern.

Weird, right?

Cause under normal circumstances, most people tend to lose their appetite whenever they feel sick but in her case it was the other way round;

Weirdly enough She crave almost everything and just don't get full.

People who don't know find it difficult to believe she's actually sick.

But right now, she ain't feeling under the weather at all; she was just famished.

"No mom, it's been a while you made pasta you know, I was craving it." She explained.

"Good to know." Her mother sighed in relief.

Then she sighted her brother - Dre - stepping down the stairs,

"Good morning mom," He greeted, but his eyes were fixed on Pearl – not really on her but her FOOD.

"Well, you could've slept till tomorrow." Pearl taunted, but he didn't reply, which was rare, so she discovered he had a mission.

She swiftly shifted her food to the other side of the table.

"Why are you so stingy?" He grumbled.

"Why are you so greedy?" Pearl retorted.

"Mom... My food.." he faced their mother.

"Have you even brushed your teeth? You had better go wash up!" Mrs Robin hollered.

"It isn't like I was going to eat without brushing, I just wanted to make sure my food is ready." He tried supporting himself.

"You were seconds away from devouring my food!" Pearl ruined his defense. "By the way, Aren't you resuming?" She asked because he wasn't looking 0.01% ready to go to school.

"Tomorrow." He replied as he climbed the stairs.

"Make sure to clean the toilet!" She yelled after him.

Pearl didn't like the fact that they had only one toilet upstairs. It's two bedrooms after all, It was supposed to be two toilets. But she was still grateful she had her bathroom to herself.

"Pearl!" She suddenly heard her mom hollered as she was busy struggling to trap the last strand of spaghetti with her fork.

"You really have changed." Mrs Robin said sarcastically.

That was when she realized she was getting late.

She gulped down her drink and slung her bag over her shoulder.

"Bye mom." She waved and got out quickly.

She needed to catch the bus or she'd spend half her money on cab.

Her Dad would've been glad to drop her off but that rarely happens, since she was seldom early. Or was he the one always in a hurry?

She checked the time, and it was still twelve minutes past eight o'clock.

"The bus would arrive by 8:30a.m. Good job, Pearl." She hyped herself as she brought out her headphone and placed it over her head;

Yeah! Some morning refreshing music!

While the music continued to play, she was startled to see a vehicle rushing in her direction.

She didn't have enough time to process what was going on.

But thankfully, the car stopped a few inches short of hitting her as she stood there terrified.

She let out a loud sigh that was nearly a groan as she felt relieved and discovered she was standing almost in the middle of the road.

What the hell was wrong with her?

She hurried to the other side, quickly removed the headphone and tucked it in her bag.

Then she inhaled a very pleasant air,

This ain't normal air; It's the fragrance of a cologne.

She looked up and saw a stunning woman, who she mentally estimated to be in her late thirties.

The first thing she noticed was the woman's makeup; It was perfect.

“She couldn't have done it herself, This is a professional work.” She reiterated to herself.

"Are you okay?" The woman asked.

"Yes, I'm totally fine, I'm sorry." She apologized for the trouble she might have caused.

"It's alright, Be careful next time." The lady smiled warmly and the smile perfected her beauty.

Pearl was debating whether to ask where she got her makeup done or not.

But as she opened her mouth to speak, she realized she was the only person who remained standing;

The woman's gone!

Of course.

Was she expecting her to stay for a chinwag?
