Chapter 1 0. Omega-verse Glossary
Alpha- The elite gender. They are physically strong and superior to betas and omegas in various aspects. Their social status is also high. The pheromones omegas give off while they are in heat puts them in a state of arousal to such a degree that it becomes difficult for them to control themselves. Moreover, alphas and omegas can become a pair.
Beta- Not so different from the traditional gender categories. The majority of the population have this gender. They are aroused by the pheromones omegas give off in the heat, but not so much that they lose control of themselves.
Omega- A rare gender that only accounts for a small percentage of the population. They bear a significant physical burden on their heat cycle. Many of them have low status, except for those who are born into rich families.
Omegas Heat Cycle:
An omega goes into heat once a month and it lasts from a few days to a week. During this period, since their heat pheromones attract many people and they're constantly aroused, it becomes difficult for them to function in society. For this reason, as omegas are often sexually abused and professionally challenged, many of them take suppressants in order to live a normal life.
Heat suppressant:
A drug is taken by omegas to reduce the secretion of pheromones. Its effect is different for each person and some omegas secrete pheromones despite taking the medication.
Pair system:
Alpha and omega can be paired when the alpha bites the neck of the omega and vise versa when they're in heat. After becoming paired, the omega can't have sex with anyone other than their paired alpha, and their heat pheromones only become effective on their partner, making them fated partners.
One-sided relationship:
A paired alpha and omega might be in a one-sided relationship if omega is only bitten by their alpha, not vise-versa. This puts omegas at a huge disadvantage since alpha can get into a sexual relationship with others with ease while omegas suffer from a burning sensation that begets omega to become aggressive.
