Bounded By Fate. Chapter 1 The Kings

Felicia, there's something I and your father want to talk to you about, Mrs Kings said. Felicia sat upright her interest piqued, they had all just finished watching a movie, of course Amanda was hardly concentrating, she was typing away on her phone. Okay mum, what is it about, licia asked.

Now stop looking so scared, we're not about to ask you to get married, mr Kings teased.

Licia humorously heaved a sigh of relief and they all burst out laughing.

Over to you darling, Mr. Kings said to his wife.

Mrs. Kings rested on her husband's shoulder a smile still evident on her face. Amanda grinned, it always amazed her how this old couples still acted lovey dovey to each other.

Muuuuum.., Licia drawled. It was obvious her mum was purposefully keeping her in suspense. Mrs kings chuckled. 'As you know, I and your dad are supposed to close a deal in paris on monday but then we've decided to take a break and spend the entire week there. We'll be leaving you in charge of the company while we're gone, most especially, the contract with Jeffs enterprise. I trust you can handle that, her mum gazed at her.

Felicia was stunned, drawn to tears she choked in her sob ' oh mum, after all I did how can you still trust me'

Sweetheart, her dad drew closer and gave her a big warm hug. 'you've proven yourself to be more than worthy'She never expected a day like this would come and even if it did, not this soon. What did she ever do to deserve such loving parents. She had wrecked them completely and purposefully the last time they left her in charge and trust is something once lost could hardly be replaced so why are they giving it to her on a platter of gold. Well she is going to earn it this time."

Not you trying to steal my husband's attention from me, right under my nose is it", her mother teased.

"No ma", Licia was quick to release the supposed husband from the hug, and they chuckled, her mum sure knew how to lighten the mood.

'Mum, Dad, I promise you I won't ever let you down again', she said happiness filling her inside, her parents were letting her work in her field and this time she'll make them proud.' I promise to give my best to make sure the deal with Jeff's enterprise is a success'

"Jeffs enterprise", Amanda who had been acting oblivious to the trio interrupted.Jeffery Goodwill is the CEO, right? She looked to her aunt for affirmation.

Omg! I'm so happy for you Licia, Amanda said cheerily.' You'll be working with one of the most handsome bachelor's in the country', she whispered. Too bad, Mrs Kings heard.

' You interrupted a serious conversation to say that', her brows quirked up.

No, you probably heard wrong ma, Amanda grabbed her phone and scurried up the stairs.

What will I do with this girl, she gasped. She got the fierce spirit from you, what are you saying, mr Kings chuckled.

Licia, In all you do, I want you to know that we not only trust you, we believe in your potentials, her mum said.

Don't let your past hold you down, her dad added.

Thank you mum, thank you dad, licia beamed.

Four hours and some minutes later, after her parents had laid down a long list of rules such as * No staying out or going out after 9

* No partying inside or outside the premises and lots more rules.

Licia had laughed at their parental display. She for one, had too much on her plate to party or cross any of her parents rules, besides she was past all of that, experience was the best teacher. Her parents knew that, so the rules were majorly for Amanda.

Amanda had grumbled saying she was an adult and if she had not been posted so close to the mansion she would be at her own apartment, her grumbling didn't last long though after her father transferred a substantial amount to her account for weekend shopping, she had concurred acting like an obedient child.

Afterwards, they had prayed and her parents went to bed while Amanda sneaked into Licia's room. No, not to help find out the perfect outfit for tomorrow.

Instead stalking a certain Jeffery Goodwill. ' Mandie, will this be okay for tomorrow', Licia asked.

Yes, perfect, amanda said studying the simple short black gown licia stretched out.Okay, thanks. But is it good enough, Amanda said on second thoughts.

Isn't the gown too simple, I mean you'll be meeting a stinking rich and handsome bachelor tomorrow. How about that blue gown that accentuates your curves, she rambled.

Are you for real, right now, licia laughed seating up. Amanda, I'm going for a business deal not a dinner party and what I need from you is your prayers that things work out well and I make up for the loss I cost my parents instead of playing match maker.

Hey, Amanda climbed the bed and held her hands. ' you want a pity party but I'm not gonna pity you, she said and Licia chuckled. 'Because I trust you and ditto with your parents. What's happened in the past is in the past, you're going to break a leg, girl'. Amanda high-fived her and they laughed.

Nevertheless, a little romance is always a welcomed spice, Amanda said and Licia hit her with a pillow.

' not again, I should have known you're a lost case'

'See nah, the guy is handsome', she scrolled through his Instagram page to show licia but she was already off the bed arranging her stuffs. At least you'll need information about the guy you'll be working with for months, Amanda continued undeterred.

Top three youngest billionaires in Nigeria and he's the second, Amanda kept on ranting until she dozed off. Licia smiled seeing how Amanda was sprawled on the bed, after arranging her things, she went through some documents, read her bible then covered Amanda properly and slept next to her wondering why they had different rooms when they almost always sleep together.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.
