Chapter 1 Beginning

"You have the freedom to decide whether you want to marry into Rodriguez's family or stop being Orio Rivera daughter."With a yell, he pushed me against the wall. "No, you can not force me to marry Brian Rodriguez; I do not want to marry someone I do not love." I screamed at the top of my lungs, tears streaming down my face as I looked at my father with a mixture of shock and surprise. I have been crying uncontrollably all night at the mere thought of it. My father looked at me intensely.

"The Rodriguez family or nothing; you have no other option, Aria." With a firm voice, he told the driver to take him to the event center. I was already aware that he does not make baseless threats. As I walked down the aisle in my shoes and gorgeous white dress, a white veil that, in some cultures, is seen as a sign of virginity was pulled over my face. I entered the room and saw my arranged husband, Brian Rodriguez, who was waiting to be joined in holy matrimony with the priest at the altar. Brian talked to the priest to get everything together as soon as possible. I try not to show any doubt or hesitation on my face by wearing a huge smile. With intense eyes, Brian studied me.

I just stood there and waited silently for the vow, wondering how someone could be so disrespectful to a clergyman.Brian shot me a few nasty looks as he observed me closely, staring me in the cold, angry eyes, "You should know by now that our marriage is nothing more than a deal." He said. "It is unbelievable that I get to wed such an ugly clown; this punishment is too great; I deserve better." He looked straight into my eyes, clearly showing his displeasure on his whole face. "Getting married to you does not bother me as long as it keeps my family together." I responded. His words raced through me, sending a shiver down my spine. I glanced up at him and noticed that he did not appear happy at all, and he did not hesitate to express it by telling me those hurtful words.

"It was so disappointing to hear you say those things on what should have been one of the happiest days of my life, could we just have a small wedding and then head home?" I beseech him. Brian heard those words and screamed angrily, "Look at me, I want to see you and look at your ugly face!" He said it without remorse. "Really, can you be nice?" With tears nearly spilling out of my eyes, I spoke. "I will not repeat myself again; I asked you to raise your head." Lifting my head slowly to meet his gaze, I hoped that I appeared fairly normal to him-fairly plump and slender.

I turned my head to allow him to see my features better, but he used his hands to lift my chin so he could see me better from where he was standing, sweeping his gaze over my features once more for a closer look, "Not Bad.''He said. I lowered my gaze to reveal my sharp nose, brilliant eyes, and dark hair. I did not lift my head or eyes, so he could see my signature feature, a mark I got from one of my dad's brutal act.I winced with laughter at how I had maintained throughout the process and only raised my head when requested. I suppose this gave him the impression that I was a servant and he was the master as I answered all of his questions.

His cold aura and dehumanizing manner made me blush, and he spoke to me without showing any emotion. My dad's failing business broke me into a thousand pieces, and I was greatly heartbroken to learn that I would have to live the rest of my life with him. That is the only reason I agreed to this loveless marriage. I am tired of hearing him refer to me negatively; I will have to get used to Brian treating me like this.I am happy that I can now claim the Rodriguez family as my own at last.

Making my dad proud, knowing fully that my dad when he wants something can be pretty obstinate, and this was one of those occasions. I begged him, remembering very clearly the day I was given the news of my arranged marriage. It was shockingly revealed to me, there was little or nothing I could do to change his mind, as all of my pleading went unanswered as he gave the driver the order to take me along.

"I promise to change, I will be a better daughter to you, please do not allow me to get married to him," I begged. My mother was already seated in the car when I got in, she also had little or no control over what he did as well. I was so weak from crying so much and tired. We have both been his puppets. "My dear, you will be alright." She claimed that in an attempt to comfort me and put little importance before us, her tone was incredibly soft. "Mom, please talk to him; you might get through to him." "I tried everything, honey, but he will not listen."She expressed vulnerability as she realized there was nothing she could do to assist me. When I was formally informed the previous evening, I had overheard them both talking about something. Before my mother excused herself to go to the living room, there was almost a fight.

My wedding to Brian was a glamorous affair with white décor, lightning, and a select few guests invited to grace the occasion. My father had repeatedly warned me not to mess things up, I have lived my entire life under a set of rules and regulations despite enjoying the best material privileges anyone could ask for. I could not believe how quickly things turned out, so I just took a step down the aisle toward the man who was chosen for me, enduring my father's constant warnings that, should this wedding fail, he could lose everything he has worked so hard for because we are in danger of going bankrupt. Everything is due to the lavish way of living he enforced.

Even though things were not okay, I have to act like everything is. Standing in front of the minister, smiling from grin to grin, I looked at Brian, who was also standing impatiently. He was tall, attractive, and well-groomed in his navy blue suit and tie, which complemented his jet-black hair and blue eyes. His expression furrowed in exasperation. Staring at me, he muttered, "You look like an ugly duckling." "You and your family have finally gotten what you want," he continued. He yanked me out of it, looking enraged and shooting me a lethal glare.

I was feeling utterly alone and stunned as I stood there. With a knot in my stomach, I silently and carefully mouthed the words, "It was all my dad's decision." His blue eyes froze, a grin creeping across his face.It was evident to me that everything was proceeding according to plan."You should understand that since this whole thing was based on selfish gain, it can never work out between the two of us." He spoke for the entire time, and each word pierced my heart a thousand times over.

Will I be able to cope being a wife of the Rodriguez family? What is the possibility that Brian would accept me as his own?

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
