Dream job, prince charming, being a wife and mother; Lotus had experienced all that before her life came crashing down like a house built without solid foundation. It is left for Lotus to either pick the pieces of her life and realise she is no Cinderella with a typical happily ever after story or give in to despair and give up on living. Which would it be? Be ready to feel the pains, sorrow, joy excitement, healing and all the emotions of the main character in this modern day book.
Lotus woke up feeling lost like she had been feeling for the past days, weeks and months. Everything seemed bleak, bleary, and monotonous, and she couldn't help but wonder how everything crumbled in one day. Lotus felt her world had come to an end and she was just waiting for the thick hands of time to take her. One moment she was excited to hear her alarm wake her, now she hoped her eyes would be closed forever. She remembered the day she said "I do" to her husband and how it marked the beginning of her doom. Her mother had asked her if she was sure about him, he looked too good to be true.
Her questions: "Are you sure about him? Have you prayed about him?" kept ringing in her ears. She ignored the red flags blinded by love. Lotus sighed as she got out of bed, and walked downstairs with her hair disheveled and wearing the same blouse she had worn for a week. She wasn't even sure if she had taken her bath in the past week. She hadn't even gone out in months.
Her mother had left breakfast for her in the kitchen, like she did every day before leaving for her business but she had no appetite and just stared and picked at it for hours. As she stood there, she realized how she had worked so hard to lose weight and move from a size 16 to 14 to no avail but now she couldn't even remember what size she was, a size 10? 12? Misery is the best weight loss medicine.
Lotus laughed bitterly and thought about how she met Daniel, their whirlwind romance, their enviable wedding, her perfect life or so it seemed. She didn't want to think about it but now she couldn't help but think about the genesis of the event that had changed and scarred her for life. She lost her husband and precious baby, the only beautiful thing this marriage had given her. She didn't care about losing her husband, it was his fault! If only he hadn't been cheating. His reckless cheating cost her the life of her innocent baby. The thought of her baby made her wail and her heart was broken all over again. She wanted to tear something or someone apart and make them pay for this pain she was feeling. She couldn't help but think about the pain that started at the grocery store that day. So many regrets!
