Sharon's POV
Loyola's weather in October was killer. Since, the mornings and evenings were eased by late autumn's breeze.
My alarm clock blared at exactly 7am and I sluggishly stepped out of bed, rubbing my eyes. I wished I could have slept in but no, I was the only daughter of the family and mom wasn't around so yeah, I was the mom and everyone knows, moms don't sleep in.
I let out a yawn and did my usual morning stretches after which I lazily made my way out of my room, dragging my feet.
"Another Monday morning".
As I walked down the hallway, I scanned my head for breakfast options. I wasn't sure of what to make. Getting up early every morning to make breakfast was one thing but deciding what to eat was another thing entirely. I always had a lot to do as the only girl in the family and it didn't help that my brothers were so lazy.
A tad bit sexist too. "Cooking is a girl's job" they'd always say. God knows I constantly fought back the urge to jab a fork in their necks everytime they uttered that sentence.
I finally made my way into the kitchen and I instantly rolled my eyes at the pile of dirty dishes sitting in the sink. I bit back a stream of profanities as I walked to the sink to get started.
"Sharon I'm hungry" A tired voice said from behind me as I reached for the gloves.
"Ain't playing here, am I?" I shot back without sparing him a glance. I was already heated.
"Just hurry up ok?, we'd love to have breakfast sometime this morning"
"Oh!" I turned back to face him at breakneck speed and he just cocked up an eyebrow at the outburst he knew I was about to have. "Then maybe you should have gotten your lazy ass out of bed to make the food yourself!" I snapped.
He let out a sigh and sauntered towards the kitchen island, a blank expression on his face. He grabbed an apple out of the fruit basket and took a bite after which he pointed a warning finger. "You should learn how to talk to your elders" he said, mouth full of apple.
He spun around on his heels to walk out of the kitchen and my jaws clenched in anger.
How could someone be so infuriating.
"Well..., Maybe you should learn how not to treat your younger ones like trash " it wasn't much of a clap back but I had to say something.
My older brother, Jacob drove me nuts. He knew just how to get under my skin, most times intentionally and honestly, I had had enough of it. He worked as a civil servant and finally decided to come home to say hi to the family for the first time in three years.
It was great to see him at first but it only took me two days to get over it.
Immediately I finished with the dishes, I got started with breakfast. I finally decided on pancakes and waffles. It didn't take me too long to whoop up everything, I was all too familiar with the procedure. I topped everyone's pancakes with butter and drowned them in maple syrup.
"Good morning family!" Dad yelled and I immediately raised my head to see the wide smile plastered on his face.
"My little bear," Dad said playing with Collins unkempt hair. "Did you sleep well?"
"Of course Dad, I dreamt of you." Collins replied, smiling at my father.
"That's enough, let's eat." Jacob said with a slight edge to his voice. Like he was irritated by the father and youngest son having fun.
We had our breakfast in silence and everyone took their plates to the kitchen. One by one they retreated to their rooms to prepare for the day's activities till I was left alone on the dinner table.
"Goodbye Sharon." Collins greeted me walking towards the front door.
Collins is a grade 10 student of Grenade Academy. he and Dad. are so close to each other so of course he's always been dad's little bear.
"Sharon, do the dishes." Jacob said, coming out of his room and putting his tie into a neat knot.
"I know." I replied, giving him a fierce look.
I forgot to add, my mother was on a business trip.
Not a big business, trust me. She works as a nanny for busy couples' kids.
This time around, the couple whose kids she's taking care of are accountants for a well off international firm.
My mom always prays for me to be a big woman like most of her employers.
I had my graduation ceremony last week.
I was very happy, being the valedictorian for my year.
Finally! I'm a graduate. After many breaks from school, taking semesters off just to find jobs to do.
My parents believe so much in graduating as the best student and getting a job. I have no other choice but to do that.
I applied to different big companies in the country, hoping I'll get called for an interview.
"Beep, beep, beep" my phone vibrated.
"I wonder who that is" I said to myself, walking towards my phone.
I left it on the retro tile countertop with patterned tiles paired with the circular green, black, and yellow tile backsplash in our mid century modern-inspired kitchen with chartreuse countertops and black flooring for a kitschy feel.
I reached for my phone and took a peep at the screen.
'Mai Richyā¤ļø'
I was so happy. With my heart racing, I picked his call with a wide, unapologetical smile. "Sweetheart, I miss you."
"Let's see today."
"Should I come over?" I asked, walking out of the kitchen.
"If you want to. I'll go out very soon so you have to come now." he replied bluntly.
I swallowed hard.
"Hope everything is fine" I said resting on a dining chair.
I heard no reply. I removed the phone from my ear and looked at the screen.
"Oh!" I managed to let out. Putting my phone on the dining table. He cut the call on me.
I was hurt, but at the same time used to it.
"He's probably busy." I said to myself.
Richards has been cold to me for a while now. I've been calling him multiple times almost daily. He didn't pick up my call.
It breaks my heart when he doesn't pick my calls.
"I'm so stupid." I murmured beneath my breath with tears forming in my eyes.
I cleaned the eyes with the back of my right palm.
I have to wash up and get to his place early.
"I must have offended him."
Whenever I do something he doesn't like, he acts weird. Such a baby.

About a month ago, I changed my phone's passcode while playing games with Collins, my kid brother.
Richard was furious and asked his usual silly question:
"You're cheating on me?"
"Hell no! I'm not" I answered him almost immediately with shock written all over my face.
"Then why did you change your passcode "
"I was playing a game with Collins." I replied.
"So, what's it?"
"I'm not gonna tell you."
Richards angrily stood up to my surprise.
"Where are you going?"
"Don't talk to me." and with that, he stormed out of the restaurant.
"What have I done?"
I stood up to follow him, he was out of sight.
I called him, he didn't pick up.
I went to his house that evening.
"Why are you here?" He asked, with his right hand on the door frame and his body leaning towards the partly opened front door.
"I'm sorry, just let me in first" I replied, stopping to enter from beneath his right arm.
"Why did you change your passcode without telling me?" he asked turning around to face me while using his left hand to close the door.
"My passcode is 190998."
"That's my birthday" Collins replied me, turning his face to look directly into my eyes, a light blush evident on his face.

I dashed into the bathroom, had a hot bath and washed my hair.
"I love the smell of this shampoo."
I wrapped my pink towel round my body and I packed my hair into a pink microfiber towel. I'm very biased towards pink.
I stay in front of my dressing table.
I plugged my sonic hair dryer to the socket. I love sonic electronics a lot. All my electronic appliances are from that same company. What they did to me, I don't know.
I removed my microfiber towel from my hair, letting my wet blonde hair fall on my shoulders.
"Gosh it's cold."
I dried my hair, spread my hair towel on the towel hanger and went to my closet.
I scanned through, not sure of what to wear.
A pair of blue jean pants caught my eye, though I wasn't sure of what to wear on it.
I then remembered, my dad gave me a nice yellow crop top that I took a huge liking to.
I reached the gift box neatly placed in the last drawer of my closet.
"Hmmmm so nice." I said sniffing the top with my eyes closed.
I wore my chosen clothes and took a blue purse to complement it.
I wore a black all star snickers with a white sole.
I wore a light makeup with a red lipstick. I styled my hair the Kim-kay style. I was so proud of myself.
"I look beautiful." My spirit told me.
I met my plate on the dining table.
"Silly me."
I took it to the kitchen, washed it and put it in the rack to dry.
I cleaned the kitchen sink, rinsed my hands, dried it with the kitchen napkins.
Picking my phone from the kitchen's counter, I walked towards the dining room, took my blue purse from a dining chair and walked towards the front door.
"Beep, beep, beep" my phone rang again
"Gosh I'm late!" I panicked, dashing out of the house.
