A PERFECT SIN Chapter 1 1

The sun rays peeked through the window of a dark themed room and bathed the figure sleeping on the bed. Emerald groaned and tossed around in bed several times before sitting up. He looked at the time and gasped. Past nine.

Stepping down from the bed he moved to the bathroom and took a long relaxing bath before stepping out of the bathroom. He put on a white tee shirt over grey sweatpants before brushing his hair and tying it in a red elastic band. He starred at his self in the mirror and smiled.

Slipping his phone into his pocket he headed downstairs. When he got down he heard laughter from the kitchen and moved towards it. On getting there he met Celia and Snow.

"Hey ladies". He greeted earning the attention of both women. Celia was busy with the stove while Snow sat at a table.

"Someone decided to wake up". Celia said sarcastically handing him a cup of coffee. He sipped and let out a smile.

"Good morning Mr DeVille". Snow said standing up. "Celia I'll head home now. I need to go to work and I'm late already".

"Don't worry about your father Snow. He'll be fine". Celia said giving her a hug. Snow smiled and left the kitchen.

Celia turned her attention to the pot. She stirred it for a while and turned off the stove.

"You know he's gonna die right?" Emerald asked leaning by the kitchen island and folding his arms.

"Yes but I can't tell her that". Celia replied. She began putting food on a plate. " Do you want some?"

"No thanks. I should head to work". With that he disappeared into thin air.

LILA COLLEGE

The students were in class when Phyna walked in loudly popping her gum.

"Phyna can you please stop with the noise?" A student said and Phyna rolled her brown eyes.

"If you got a problem hearing it then shut your ears". She said popping louder. She took a seat beside her best friend Olive. "I got gist".

That's Phyna for you. Beautiful, slim with brown hair and eyes. She's also a very annoying person and this made her classmates wonder how she became friends with Olive.

"What news do you have this time Phy?" Olive asked looking up from her book.

"DV Enterprises is holding an event next two weeks". Phyna said checking her looks in the mirror of her phone case.

"I heard that too. My mom told me the CEO will be present". Larise confirmed and suddenly the whole class became interested in the discussion.

"I'll give anything to see Emerald DeVille". Another girl said dreamily and Roman rolled his eyes.

"Jesus! You guys make it sound like he's a god. He's just another human". He said upset.

"Maybe. But he has more money and looks than your next ten generations will ever have". Phyna said and the whole class burst into laughter.

"Well the event is for the rich people. Not everyone will attend. I don't think I'll attend". Olive said finally deciding to join the conversation.

"Why not?" Larise asked. " You are rich girl".

"Yes. But with my dad's condition I don't think I'll be able to party. 'sides Snow won't be home to look after him".

"Where would she be?" Phyna asked. She wasn't happy her best friend won't be going with her to the party. But she'll find a way to convince her otherwise.

"She works at DV Finanxes and employees are mandated to attend ". She explained. Just then the bell rang. Some of the students stood up and began packing their books.

"Let's head over to the lab for Chemistry ". Larise said carrying her red handbag.

"You girls go ahead. I'll get my lab coat from my locker and join you". Olive said packing her bag.

"Okay then ". Phyna said carrying her bag. " Come on Larise. Let's go "

Both girls moved out of the classroom chatting. Olive took her bag and made for the locker. She moved through the not so quiet hallway and got to her locker. She dropped her books and her bag inside before taking out her lab coat, exercise and text book. She shut the locker and walked away.

After hours of intense studying school was finally over. The students were going home some standing and conversing. Phyna stood by her white car with her friends. She had a pleading look on her face.

"Please I really need someone to follow me to the mall. You all know I have trust issues". She pleased with her face in a pout. She wanted her friends to follow her to the mall for new outfits.

"Sorry Phyna you'll have to go alone. I've got to go home and do chores like laundry. You mom's out of town and I'm in charge". Larise explained

"And I can't go with you either. Snow Will kill me if she finds out I stayed long. I'm grateful James insisted I keep schooling. I can't overdo it". Olive also explained.

Phyna sighed in defeat. Seems like she'll have to shop alone. Ugh.

"Fine then. Be careful okay". She said embracing her friends

'We should be telling you that. Don't drive too fast ". Olive warned

"Okay momma ". Phyna said and they all laughed. Phyna got into her car and drove away. Olive and Larise began strolling, looking for a cab.

For three years, I was the perfect, invisible wife to Bart Brown. On our third anniversary, I stood in the kitchen for four hours, preparing his favorite meal with imported truffles, only to receive a cold text command. "Crysta fainted again. Get to the hospital. Now." My rare Rh-negative blood was the only thing the Brown family valued. Bart didn't want a wife; he wanted a walking blood bank for his "sick" best friend, Crysta. While I was fainting from chronic anemia, Crysta was smirking in her hospital bed, clutching Bart's hand and mocking my "peasant" lifestyle. Even his mother treated me like a servant, demanding I vacuum the floors after I'd already offered my veins for the hundredth time. When I finally reached my breaking point and signed the divorce papers, they didn't let me go quietly. They filed a false police report, accusing me of stealing a multi-million dollar diamond necklace just to watch me crawl. I didn't understand how a family could be so heartless. I had cooked their meals, cleaned their house, and literally bled for them, yet they were determined to ruin my life the moment I stopped being useful. Did they really think I was a nobody with nowhere to go? Standing outside the hospital with a bruised wrist and nothing to my name, I didn't cry. I simply took off my cheap wedding ring and dialed a secure line I hadn't touched since the day I married him. "It's me, Dad," I whispered as a fleet of black Maybachs rounded the corner. "The extraction is a go. I'm coming home."

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.
