SHADOWS BETRAYAL Chapter 1 The Beginning

CHAPTER ONE

Amelia's POV

"Amelia, what are you still doing in that kitchen?" Elena called out angrily.

I was about to respond before her voice came again.

"My feet won't wash themselves," Elena screamed again.

"I will be out in a moment," I screamed back at her.

She asked me to make her a bowl of pasta and clean up the kitchen, now she's asking me to come clean her feet for her.

"When coming out, get me a glass of cold water," Ellen screamed immediately as I attempted to open the kitchen door.

I rolled my eyes angrily and hissed silently before going back to get Ellen the glass of water he requested.

Elena and Ellen are known to be the most troublesome twins, they are a true definition of a pain in the ass.

They sit down all day pressing their phone while I do the chores all alone.

"I will tell Mother to find a way and convince Father so he can get you out of this house and most importantly this pack.

You are too sluggish for me." Elena screamed at me as I walked closer to her.

"Then you should at least do them yourself and know how it feels," I muttered.

"What did you just say?" Ellen asked, walking up to me and ready to pour the glass of cold water he was holding on me.

"I was only apologizing and saying I would be faster next time," I said.

"Then apologize appropriately," Ellen said.

"I'm sorry," I said, getting on my knees.

I had to say something and at least defend myself to avoid stories that touched the heart.

Elena once heard what I muttered behind her mother when she scolded me. She simply called me into her room in a friendly tone and bathed me with hot water mixed with hot pepper.

She dragged me outside her room while I scratched my body in pain and locked me inside her room where no one could hear me scream.

I was treated like a slave which I wasn't.

While Ellen passed beside me, he still dropped the cold water on me not minding how cold it was.

"Do you have anything to say or do you want my mom coming after you?" Ellen asked, rolling his eyes at me.

"Do I have to tell you that my feet are yet to be washed?" Elena asked, pushing her dirty nails into my mouth.

Elena and Ellen would always turn me into their slave anytime Alpha Barker traveled to the human world or visited other packs for official reasons.

I was about to focus on Elena's nails when I saw her carrying up the soap. She was hot with a bowl of hot water and dropped it on my head.

As if the pain wasn't enough, she dropped her bowl of hot pasta on my head making me scream in pain.

I stood up hurriedly and rushed to her bathroom to clean up but instead, she dragged me outside her room leaving me alone to find the way to my room.

Since Elena's room wasn't far from mine, all I just did was walk with my hands placed on the wall till I got to my room door.

"What's happening here?" I heard Nina's voice.

If Nina gets to see me in this state, the pain I'm currently receiving will be tripled. I thought as I hurriedly went into my room.

Nina and her twins hated me with every guy they had. Nina's prayer every day was that the Alpha be out every day so she could take the opportunity to treat me like a slave.

An Omega in the Paxon pack is even living a better life than I do. They only have selected hours to do their chores while I do my chores every single minute including washing Elena's feet.

"Amelia!!!" I heard Nina's voice as she walked closer to my room. I had to quickly rush to my toilet and clean up the mess Elena did on my body.

"Didn't you hear me call out your name?" Nina asked followed by an unexpected resounding slap.

"What?" I screamed.

"What did I tell you about reporting to me immediately when I called you?" Nina asked angrily.

"I'm sorry Mom!" I said going down on my knees.

"I would never give birth to someone as stupid as you are. I have two wonderful twins already." Nina said.

I looked up and saw both Elena and Ellen standing close to Nina as they played games on their iPads.

"We can't even share our mom with a piece of shit like you," Elena said, rolling her eyes at me.

"This should be the last time you would refer to me as your mom. The next time this repeats itself, I won't hesitate to throw you out of this pack and nobody dares question me including Alpha Barker who picked you up from the Streets." Nina said.

Yeah! That's me.

I was picked up from the streets by Alpha Barker when I was three years old. The only person I regarded as a mom then abandoned me to the cold hands of the world.

She only said to go out and look for what we would eat for that day but I never got to see her again.

I fed on people's food remnants as a child, I slept in the streets for three days.

It was during one of Alpha Barker's visits around the packs that he saw me and picked me up.

He asked one of his warriors to drop me off in the infirmary where I tried to connect with young minds like me because I had been isolated for a long time according to the doctor that attended to me.

Alpha Barker would always check up on me every day till I was officially five years old and ready to be adopted.

I was happy when I got the news that Alpha Barker was the one who had come to adopt me.

The woman who took care of us gave me a farewell celebration with the other children singing happily.

I made a promise that I would always come to celebrate my birthday in the infirmary every year.

I was even more happy when Alpha Barker took me home and Nina his Luna accepted me with all her heart and even treated me like her child, not until she got pregnant later.

I started doing the chores of ten people. I thought everything I was doing was just for the time being but she even gave birth and everything became worse.

I kept getting beaten every day, the omegas chores, Elena, and Ellen became my responsibility.

"Alpha Barker picked you from the streets." Nina would always say each time I try reminding her that I am not an Omega yet.

"I'm home!" Came Alpha Barker's voice.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
