Love's Illusion: Unveiling The Mask Of My Cunning Lover Chapter 1 Risk Her Happiness

At Zoria Club.

"Karlee, are you sure about this?"

On the phone, Jessica Mason, Karlee Elliott's friend, voiced her concern. "Even if Jeremy has betrayed you, you shouldn't risk your own happiness like this!"

Karlee tipped back another glass of wine, her vision clouding with alcohol. "It's the only way I know to get back at them. Otherwise, I'll be forever tormented by those two shameless people!"

Indeed, she was plotting to seduce Brian Olson, the CEO of the Olson Group.

Word on the street was that Brian's family was desperate for him to marry soon because a family elder was critically ill and wished to see him tie the knot.

After she hung up the phone, Karlee spotted Brian emerging from the restroom. Clumsily gripping her glass, she staggered toward him.

"Oh! I'm so sorry."

Karlee "accidentally" spilled her drink on Brian's chest, instantly staining his tailored suit.

"Watch out, Mr. Olson." Dennis Fletcher, Brian's secretary, intervened, scrutinizing the tipsy and disheveled Karlee. "Mr. Olson, should I..."

Brian lifted his hand to stop Dennis.

Karlee, with flushed cheeks, was clumsily wiping Brian's shirt, her breath reeking of alcohol. "I'll... I'll clean it up for you!"

Her perfume wafted around Brian, her touch sparking an unintended desire. Brian adjusted his tie, his expression tense, and firmly caught her wrist.

Brian had been forewarned that his uncle, Laurence Olson, intended to place a strikingly beautiful woman at his side.

The woman in front of him, with her enchanting gaze and silky skin, had a tiny scar by her cheek-so subtle that it was nearly invisible. Her lips, slightly curled, resembled the petals of a rose.

It was clear now why those people had chosen today, of all days, to drug him.

Karlee struggled against Brian's hold. In a soft voice, she cried out, "You're hurting me!"

Brian, his breath uneven from the drug's influence, gently lifted her chin. Presented with such an irresistible temptation, how could he turn away?

"How do you plan to compensate me?"

His voice was hoarse from the drug, his lips nearly brushing Karlee's. The desire in him burned.

Karlee looked up at him, biting her lip innocently, her eyes dewy. She was like a prey at his mercy.

She murmured, "Just... Just tell me what to do. I'll do anything..."

Brian chuckled, lifting her in his arms as they headed to an upstairs suite. After locking the door, he threw her onto the bed, discarded his tie, and looked at her with a darkened gaze.

"Hope you won't regret this!" he said.

Upon hearing that, Karlee shivered, yet Brian wasted no time, pressing his lips firmly against hers.

A night of frenzied madness followed, shattering her previous resolve. She had reserved her first intimate experience for her wedding night with Jeremy Cooper, the man she had loved for more than ten years.

She had been instrumental in building their studio from nothing, helping Jeremy orchestrate deals and execute contracts, always letting him take the credit for every design she had made. And she had accepted only two thousand dollars a month as her salary because she loved him.

But Jeremy had betrayed her!

As the morning light poured through the window, turning over was a struggle for Karlee. Her body ached as if it had been shattered.

"Mr. Olson, the driver is waiting downstairs." Dennis' voice resonated from outside the door.

Brian muttered a reply, and Karlee's gaze shifted to him by the dressing mirror; he was adjusting his attire.

She had spent the night with him...

Quickly, Karlee drew the blanket over herself to hide the marks on her skin, and Brian, securing his cufflinks, glanced her way.

"What's your name?" His tone was icy, utterly devoid of any warmth.

Karlee, caught off guard by his indifference, bit her lip and lowered her head. "Karlee... Karlee Elliott."

Hearing her name, Brian turned to face her, looking down at her like a ruler deciding her fate.

"What do you want?" he asked.

The question struck Karlee as peculiar, yet it saved her from the awkwardness of asking it herself.

With Jeremy's betrayal fresh in her mind, she lifted her gaze. "I want to marry you!"

Brian's expression remained unchanged, but his eyebrows lifted inquisitively as he studied her.

He thought even though the woman Laurence had arranged was both unique and stunning, she seemed too impulsive.

Karlee detected the mockery in his eyes, realizing how absurd her request was. Just as she was about to clarify, Brian extracted a business card from his suit.

"Tomorrow morning at nine, meet me at the City Hall," he said.

He threw the card onto the white sheets.

Karlee retrieved it, reading the name-Brian Olson.

She exhaled a breath of relief. Then, it suddenly dawned on her.

He had actually agreed?

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
