Chapter 1 1

Chapter One- The honorable fight

Adrianna's POV

"Congratulations to you, Dear Alpha. It's so good to see you again after some time off." I heard the Alpha of another pack say to my father through my wolf hearing.

"Oh it's a pleasure. I heard your wife traveled some days ago." My father said,

"Oh, as a matter of fact, she did. She's joining some forces to bring peace back to her former pack by volunteering as a warrior."

"But she's Luna. Your Luna, is that okay?"

"Of course, I believe in my wife's combat skills. I'm sure she'll be fine."

"Oh, just tell me if there's need for Mid-East pack to intervene at all. You know how rogues can be, very stubborn set of individuals."

"You're right but as for now, she's fine. I can vouch for that."

I removed my focus from the conversation between my father and another Alpha while paying attention to the droplets of sweat that dropped onto the mahogany table where drinks were to be served.

I had been doing this for a while and it was getting tiring.

"I'd been wondering where you were," I heard a voice behind me which made me stop what I was doing and turn around. Shivers ran up my spine as I saw Amelia look at me with an indignant look on her face. She held such a sour look on her face that made her beauty dissolvable. But oh, my, what did that matter? In this moment, she was the star child who could do no wrong in anyone's eyes... While I, was the complete opposite.

I turned back to the table and proceeded to clean it aggressively.

"You should go back to wherever you're coming from. I don't want any trouble." I said, and it was the truth. She could be picked over and over by all the guests and I wouldn't care as long as she was away from my face.

However, before I could get myself together, I felt liquids being poured over my head, wetting my face and dripping down my shirt.

I angrily turned around to face Amelia who had a triumphant look as well as an empty glass in her hand.

"Why did you do that?"

"And what gives you the right to speak to me like that?" Amelia looked at me coldly.

I swallowed nervously. "I know you hate me but you don't have to rub it in everytime."

"I do have to rub it in," she said lavishly, "Least you dream too big and forget what you are made of. Again, I am our father's favorite child and you are not."

"I know the reason you try to treat me badly. It's simple. You're insecure-"

Amelia's eyes widened, and the way she looked at me made me want the ground to swallow me up. But I was feeling my anger rile up inside me, it was difficult to stifle it down.

"You fear dad will treat you as bad as he treats me so you try to stop me from attending the party-"

Amelia slapped me hard across the face, silencing me. I grabbed onto my right cheek with my left hand and looked at her in awe.

"This party... make sure you don't attend it. Know your place and don't dream too much." With that, Amelia rushed off in her red dress and stiletto high heels.

I dropped the towel I was using to clean and stormed out of the room where the party was taking place and went outside to the garden where there were very few People hanging out.

Yes indeed, my name was Adrianna Richardson, and I was the daughter of Mirthon Richardson, the Alpha of the Mid-East pack. He has two daughters. Me and Amelia. And a son, Steven. Of all three of us siblings, I was the one detested and for no good reason I could say. But I've come to accept that now.

I tried to wipe my face with my worn out purple long-sleeved shirt but it could not do much. I was totally drenched.

I sighed to myself in the quiet night and crouched down, looking around the quiet environment.

I didn't know how long I stayed there untill my breath was filled with a scent. A peculiar one.

"Hmm," I inhaled, breathing deeply. Whose scent was that?

I felt a kick in my soul from my wolf. She too was enticed.

I stood on my feet and saw him in front of me. The cause of the scent I'd been perceiving, and he looked so beautiful.

Gorgeous blue eyes like the dark night sky overwhelming around surrounding the piece of art that he was. He was beautiful or maybe charming like the world loved to attune for gorgeous men.

He looked like a royal priesthood and he was completely mesmerising to the eyes.

I felt my anger from earlier melt away like butter and now I was only fascinated by the man who stood in front of me. And he was my mate. I think he knew that too. That was why he was standing in front of me. My eyes blurred with tears. He found me.

My wolf was dancing behind my soul and she was pressing me to do things I wouldn't usually do.

MATE!!

MATE!

HE'S OURS.

I laughed, letting a tear roll down my cheek. But it was a happy tear. I was about to speak but he beat me to it.

"I don't know why I was given a less privileged to be my mate. I, reject you."

My heart broke. "What?" My voice came out a pristine quiver but it was too quiet to be heard, to be perceived.

With that, I watched him walk away from me so quickly.

I felt to the ground and cried, watching him get further and further away from me.

He didn't even give me a chance.

"Wait!" I wanted to say but he was already far from sight.

My soul was shattered. The hope was gone.

My wolf reached out to me in agony and so did I. But neither of us were able to comfort the other.

I didn't know how long I stayed there but I soon realized that no amount of self-pity could salvage the situation. I could only blame myself for not putting on better clothes.

But even if I put on better clothes, how could I still be eye-pleasing to a man who looked like that?

I bowed my head. It was useless anyway. Everything I did was useless. Even my mate didn't want me.

When I had enough thinking about the event over and over again, I decided that it was my lot and that I had to take all that was coming to me just like that.

I got back into the room where the party was taking place. Everyone looked well fitted in, in contrast to I, whose hair was Matty and gross looking. Not to mention, I was wearing faded purple shirt with faded jeans.

"What is your problem?" Someone murmured as I mistakenly brushed over them while walking.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
