Alisa, can you come here, please? I have something to tell you. Lyra called her best friend into her room. She desperately wanted her friends' opinions when it came to understanding why she was feeling ill.
She was lying down on her bed, unable to get up. Every time she tried to stand, Lyra felt nauseous, so she decided to rest, hoping to get herself to feel better.
Lyra heard the sound of running feet, and Alisa came bounding into the room. Out of breath, Alisa's face was etched in concern, she started shifting from one foot to the other. Lyra, what is wrong? You don't look well. She declared, as her voice began breaking with worry.
I don't feel very well. I think something is wrong with me. Lyra told her, discussing her concern about her health. You know, Lyra, I have noticed you throwing up and not drinking alcohol.
Lyra, do you remember that one night when we went to a bar because of your toxic relationship with your boyfriend? I remember you telling me how you met a stranger there that you could not help but get close to. So you had a one-night stand with him. Alisa questioned, as she placed a hand on Lyra's shoulder, seeking to comfort her.
Yes, I do remember that. But what does that have to do with the way I am feeling right now? Lyra asked, not understanding what was going through her head. I think that you are pregnant. Alisa declared with glee as she began clapping her hands.
Pregnant? But how is that possible? I never had intimate relations with my boyfriend. Lyra said as she began to rack her brain around the possibility of the pregnancy.
I am going to the convenience store down the road, to find out whether you are pregnant. Alisa told Lyra, ready to determine whether it was true. With that, she exited the room and Lyra's house, willing to do whatever was necessary to support her. Right as she left, Lyra's boyfriend arrived back home.
Lyra, my love. I am home. He shouted through the hallway. With each step he took, the concern in his voice grew wearier. Lyra, where are you? He questioned, eager to know if she was okay or not. Upon entering their bedroom, he ran closer to her. Lyra! Oh no! You passed out!? Her boyfriend yelled, as his voice became distraught. Slowly yet surely, he picked her up and carefully exited the house. Then he placed her in the backseat of the car.
He drove faster and faster, dodging traffic to get to the hospital. Upon arriving, he quickly parked the car and got her out, then ran straight into the emergency room with her in his arms. Lyra's boyfriend started yelling hysterically. My girlfriend has passed out, and has been like this for 3 hours!
Hold on, I have got you. One of the nurses said, as they took her out of his arms and placed Lyra on an available bed. Come with me, we will take her to an open room. And then I will examine her. The nurse said while smiling, maintaining confidence and not letting him become agitated.
Okay, I trust you. I hope you can do everything you can for her. She is the love of my life. I don't know what I would do if I lost her. He said, as he slowly calmed his beating heart.
When he entered the room, his heart could not take it. He started pacing back and forth inside the hospital room. Hurry up. I was supposed to take her on a date, and now that is not possible.
The doctor had a clipboard in his right hand, as he looked up, his eyes bore into Lyra's face. Hmm, she looks familiar. But how could that be? Before he could continue thinking about that, the doctor schooled his expression.
The doctor moved closer to Lyra, as he smelt her scent. Then he leaned back and questioned her boyfriend. What happened to her? Why is she unconscious?
I found her like this when I went home. She was lying on the bed. I tried to wake her, but that was not working. So I brought her here. Is there something that you can do? Her boyfriend asked, not willing to let her go.
The doctor nodded. Of course. We are here to help you figure out what happened to her. Nurse Casey, I want you to test her blood for inconsistencies or diseases. He said with urgency in his voice.
Yes, Alph. I mean doctor. Nurse Casey nodded her head as a sign of respect. She pulled up Lyra's sleeve and inserted the needle. Lyra's boyfriend looked on with concern. Is that necessary? As he saw the blood filling up the test tube, he fell with a thud on the floor.
Finally, the boyfriend is out of the way. Now I can do what I need to do for her sake. Casey, I want you to place a white sheet over her, and we are going to roll her out of here. The doctor told her, hoping that he would help her.
But why do we have to do that? She is not a part of us. We are not her pack. She said to the doctor, unable to understand why he had taken such measures for someone they didn't know.
Enough! I know that you have concerns about what I am doing, but she is my mate, who is pregnant with my child! He declared with a resounding boom that shook the whole hospital.
But... Casey muttered, unable to get another word out. No, you don't understand, we must get her out of here now. She must be safe in the packhouse where everything will be taken care of.
