Counterattack To My Biased Parents Chapter 1

Chapter 1

During my summer job, a bizarre customer threw hot milk tea at me and even broke the store's equipment. The milk tea shop sided with the customer and took my entire salary to cover the damages. When I went to argue, I was hit by a large truck on the way.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back at the moment when the customer threw the milk tea at me. The hot milk tea splashed on my face, making me shiver from the burn. I opened my eyes to see the woman, not satisfied with just throwing the milk tea, reaching over the counter to hit me. Instinctively, I stepped back a few paces to avoid her.

Seeing the woman's crazed expression, I was momentarily stunned before realizing that I had been given a second chance.

On this day in my previous life, the shop was unusually busy. After the woman placed her order, she started urging me to hurry up within two minutes. Even though I had already warned her that there would be a longer wait today, she didn't care and hurled a string of profanities at me.

"It's clearly because you're clumsy! What's with the excuses? If someone else were doing it, it would have been done by now!"

"People like you are just a burden on society! Your parents must have been really unlucky to have you!"

Verbal abuse wasn't enough for her; she frequently interfered with my work. I couldn't take it anymore and told her she could cancel her order if she couldn't wait. The woman lost her temper, accusing me of disrespecting her. She not only threw hot milk tea at me but also tried to overturn the machine to hit me.

After getting injured, I called the police. But when my parents arrived, they were embarrassed by me and forbade me from pursuing the matter. When I got home, they beat me up. My wounds became infected, and I developed a high fever that night.

The next day, the milk tea shop called to inform me that I had been fired, and my part-time wages were used to compensate the customer and cover the store's damages. When my parents saw that I didn't bring home any money, they kicked me out.

"That was supposed to be money for your sister's new computer! You useless thing, you can't even handle a small task!"

"If you don't get your wages back today, don't bother coming home!"

Under the hot sun, I went to the shop to ask for my money, but I couldn't hold on and fainted in the middle of the road. In the end, I was fatally injured by a speeding truck.

Fortunately, I was given another chance at life.

The woman, seeing that she hadn't hit me, angrily pushed the sealing machine on the counter towards me. I didn't dodge. Just like in my previous life, I let the machine's edge cut my arm, leaving a long gash. Then, I quickly hid in a corner and called the police.

The woman was not afraid at all and even more arrogant.

"Do you think calling the police will help? I'm telling you! You were the one who delayed my work time first!"

"You owe me triple compensation for the wages I lost today!"

The police arrived in less than ten minutes and took us both to the police car. On the way, the woman kept complaining to the police.

"She disrespected me! She deliberately wasted my time and then refused to serve me!"

"Isn't that just treating me like a fool? I was so angry that I had to punish her."

The woman spoke with such outrage that if the police hadn't stopped her, she would have tried to hit me again. I just stood quietly in the corner, explaining what had happened, looking scared and timid.

In my previous life, during the argument, she kept provoking me. I got so angry that I argued with her all the way, making the police think we were both at fault. When my parents came and forcibly intervened, they took me away, and the matter was dropped.

This time, I wouldn't be so foolish. She owed me, and I wouldn't let her get away with it.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
