Farewell, My Love Chapter 1

Chapter 1

[1]

In the year Bryan loved me the most, I started a relationship with a wealthy man and left him.

He swore I would regret it.

When we met again, he had already become a business tycoon with immense influence.

Everyone knew about the ex-girlfriend he despised.

He said, "She deserves to suffer. A woman like her doesn't deserve happiness!"

He didn't know I had a terminal illness.

I only had a few days left to live.

I never expected to run into Bryan in a place like this.

With my eyes downcast, I clutched the skimpy dress I was wearing tightly.

Rhonda gave me a push. "Joanna, what are you standing there for? Get in there!"

I tried to comfort myself. The room was dimly lit, and there were so many people. Bryan wouldn't notice me.

Taking a deep breath, I followed my colleagues into the private room.

But with just one glance, I saw Bryan lounging on the sofa.

He had changed. The boyish innocence was gone from his face, replaced by a powerful and intimidating presence.

Dressed in a tailored suit, every line exuded elegance and sophistication.

My heart ached, and I quickly lowered my gaze, not daring to look at him again.

"Mr. Keller, these are our club's finest girls. See if there's anyone you like."

He glanced at us coldly and uttered a single word. "Leave."

The club owner's face changed, and he quickly waved us out. "Out, all of you. Don't bother Mr. Keller."

I breathed a sigh of relief, my heart settling down. Thankfully, Bryan hadn't seen or recognized me.

Just as I was about to step out the door, a cold voice came from behind.

"Wait, turn around."

Accompanied by footsteps, a pair of high-end black leather shoes appeared before me.

Bryan stood in front of me. "Look up."

I didn't move.

He sneered, gripping my chin forcefully and making me meet his gaze. His eyes were full of mockery.

"So it's Miss Duffy. Didn't you hook up with a rich guy? Why are you out here working?"

"Did that rich guy dump you? Hmm?"

I bit my lip, turning my head to the side without saying a word, feeling a lump in my throat.

He turned to the club owner and chuckled. "Her, and the one next to her, stay."

The club owner rubbed his hands together, his face beaming with joy.

Leyla followed Bryan to the sofa.

Bryan lit a cigarette and looked at me. "Legs broken? Can't walk over?"

"With that attitude, you think you can serve clients? This place must not be very good."

The club owner laughed apologetically. "Mr. Keller, I'm sorry. She's new here. I heard her family is in desperate need of money. If she wasn't a bit pretty, I wouldn't have taken her in."

He then glared at me fiercely. "What are you standing there for? If you don't want to serve clients, you can leave now!"

For a moment, I felt an impulse to turn and leave immediately. But I couldn't. Not now. I needed the money desperately. I needed this high-paying part-time job.

I whispered an apology and walked towards Bryan.

"Short on money? What happened? Did your rich guy dump you?"

"Serves you right."

Bryan played with his lighter, a playful look in his eyes.

He pulled Leyla close and casually tossed her a card. "Here's a hundred thousand. It's yours."

Then he took out another card, looking at me with a sneer. "This one also has a hundred thousand, but it depends on whether you have the skills to earn it."

The people around him seemed to notice Bryan's disdain for me and started to egg him on.

"Let's make it fun. Take off your clothes! I'll bet a hundred thousand for each piece you take off!"

Laughter erupted, and several people pulled out their cards.

"Come on, sweetheart, strip down, and all the money on the table is yours."

The sterile hospital smell was the last thing I remembered. I was Ava, a successful architect, and I was dying. Through a morphine haze, I heard my husband, Liam, and his identical twin brother, Ethan. "Is she gone yet?" Ethan asked coldly. "Almost," Liam replied, his voice devoid of love. Then Chloe' s voice, sharp and satisfied: "She heard us talking about the miscarriage." My heart seized. My baby. The baby they called a tragic accident. "It was for the best," Liam said. "She was never meant to be the mother of my child. You are, Chloe." A wave of nausea and horror washed over me. "And the hysterectomy?" Ethan asked. "Are you sure it' s done?" Dr. Anderson confirmed it, Liam said. Complications. I' d never carry a child again. My world dissolved. They' d not only betrayed me but orchestrated the death of my child and the end of my womanhood. All for Chloe. Then, nothing. Until I opened my eyes again. I was in my wedding gown, in my wedding bed. Liam walked out of the bathroom, that devastating smile now making my stomach turn. He was an actor, and I had been his most captive audience. I remembered the whispers from my deathbed: the cold, calculated cruelty. This beautiful monster had shared me with his brother. I had died and come back, armed with the terrible truth. The man who had pledged his life to me had been orchestrating my destruction. My baby, my womanhood, my very life-all sacrificed for a twisted game. How could this be real? Why was I back? A new resolve settled in my soul. I wouldn't just survive this wedding night; I would be the architect of their destruction.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.
