Chapter 1 1

It was an autumn day in New York City, crisp and cool, a sign that the seasons are changing and the world is starting all over. I've always dreamed about how I would make a name for myself within the fashion industry. And today, I had come to King Fashion House where my destiny awaited. As I stepped out of the taxi onto the busy sidewalk my heart raced with excitement. Above me loomed the skyscraper which housed Alexander King's fashion empire, an imposing symbol of success and elegance. Taking a deep breath, I entered into a sleek lobby and noticed its elegant surroundings.

Around me there was a sound of activity buzzing in contrast to serene world I had just left behind; it exuded wealth because it had marble flooring, intricate chandeliers and carefully curated art on its walls. "Emma Taylor here to see Mr. King," I declared to the receptionist whose smile remained professional even when faced with my anxious voice I was pointed toward a luxurious waiting area where an air filled with soft classical music added elegance to this space that oozed power at every corner.

As I sank into the soft seats, I felt so insignificant compared to what was happening around me with regard to events in New York City. The busy streets were alive while this very room was a peaceful paradise. Then suddenly excitement surged within me mixed with some apprehension about what was coming. Every second that passed by seemed like ages. My skirt was carefully placed down; it had a tailored cream-colored blouse together with black high waisted skirt which formed nice curves on her body. My fingers were fidgeting in my lap because they held onto a leather portfolio bag containing everything that I had worked for throughout my life such as sketches drawings and dreams expressed through fabric. Just when impatience was almost overwhelming me there came that moment when the elevator doors slid apart. There came out a tall strikingly handsome man and I held my breath. Alexander King stood before me, exuding an aura of power and sophistication. Dark suit perfectly fitted him well accentuating broad shoulders narrow waistline provided to him by nature itself. The emerald green eyes twinkled in such a way that made me feel electrified. He came towards me in quick strides always keeping his strong gaze locked on mine. "Ms. Taylor, I believe?" His voice was deep and felt like warm velvet slipping through my fingers. "Yes sir," said I feeling as though all blood had drained from my body; heart racing crazily beneath the ribcage like some untamed animal longing for freedom.

Alexander stretched out his hand, and I placed mine in his as I felt a tingle of electricity course through me. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you, Ms. Taylor. I have long been waiting for this moment." He caressed the back of my hand with his thumb sending warmth across my cheeks. He didn't let go off my hand; he took me into the lift, his approach was both forceful and inviting. "Shall we retire to my office? There is much to discuss." I nodded, the pulse quickening in my body when the doors shut behind us. I was surrounded by a subtle scent of his perfume made with musk and spices which got me intoxicated. Involuntarily, my glance shifted from the dimple on his chin which made him look even more masculine. The lift started to rise and silence fell between us like an umbrella made of anticipation. He caught my gaze with a piercing look that suggested he wanted something but could not say it outright. My heart started racing while heat flooded me making it hard for me to breathe. The elevator doors parted breaking the spellbinding moment. He let go off my hand; there was a shadow of grin on his lips rather than real laughter. "You may go first, Ms. Taylor".

I stepped into his spacious office and my eyes were immediately pulled into a mesmerizing view of the city skyline. The room had an aura of opulence; it had rich mahogany furniture and soft luxurious fabric. Alexander motioned towards a pair of leather chairs near the window. "Please make yourself comfortable." I sank down into the supple leather while my heart was still fluttering when Alexander sat in front of me. For a moment there was heavy silence then he leaned forward with intensity in his eyes "Tell me what brings you to King Fashion House Ms. Taylor?" His question made my pulse quicken as I looked deeper into his emerald gaze."I'm an aspiring fashion designer Mr. King," I said even though strong emotions were raging inside me but my voice remained steady."Your designs are remarkable and blended classic elegance with modern edge." Alexander's eyes glimmered with humor. "And why do you think I am the best Ms. Taylor?" A confident smile curved on my lips. "Your designs speak for themselves Mr. King," I said, "The way you mix timeless sophistication with contemporary flair is simply breathtaking." Alexander's face brightened up while his eyes softened. "I'm honored, Ms. Taylor; moreover, I must say that you can feel your passion and talent in your work."

My heart raced as I felt the weight of his praise. "I appreciate it, Mr. King; that's significant from you." Alexander came forward, looking with intensity as afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows and made the room feel warm. "Ms. Taylor, I would be happy to have you on board at King Fashion House; your creative skills and new observations are imperative here." The moment he said those words my spirit flew high up in joy while my lips formed a wide grin; "thank you very much sir king for this offer which I accept willingly."
