My Sweet Love Chapter 1 The accident

Malinda POV.

"We have to leave Malinda, come with me," Russeli whispered to me, as he held my hands.

It was late at night and we were in a big mansion, a mansion owned by my boss, the man I love was right beside me in the room that has only a thin window with the moonlight coming through.

"No Russeli, I can't go with you." I protest, I know running away was not the right thing, it doesn't always end well for me, this was something I was sure of and I felt uneasy even if this was the only way I could be with him.

"Trust me, Malinda." His blue eyes were staring right at mine, his eyes held the emotion that I couldn't explain. "Please, we have to leave before the guards and my father find us."

He was right, we had to leave, we had to hurry, but still, how far can we go before they discover us? I was already in tears as I shook my head profusely.

"Russeli, though we love each other, I can't leave with you, please understand, I am just an orphan and...and." My lips quiver, all this was my fault. "I can't fend for myself, that's why I am working here as a maid."

Russeli could see my tears and I know it breaks his heart, he held my shoulder and made me look up at him. "I don't like how you and I can't be together, I hate to keep our relationship a secret, I hate that my father rejected you, I can't bear to see you hurt like this."

"Come with me, we can flee, we can go far away, to a place where we are free to do whatever we want, a place where we can live together and be a couple." He held my hands and gave a gentle squeeze. "A place where we don't have to be afraid, Malinda."

"Russelli.." I looked into his eyes, even if my vision was blurred with tears, was this the right thing to do? The question echoed in my head.

"Trust me.." I heard his voice again and a part of me wants to stay back, but the part of me who loves the man and will go miles away with me was stronger.

"Okay." I nodded and he pulled me into a tight hug and kissed my forehead. "Thank you, thank you." He said with joy in his voice, the tune of his voice was so happy that it seemed like I had just accepted a marriage proposal.

"We have to leave and we have to leave now." He told me and held my hands in a tight grip. "Let's go."

We both ran out of the room, surprisingly the guards that were standing there didn't notice us, it all happened quickly and we left the mansion.

Russeli opened the car door and we both got in, but not unnoticed, a guard had spotted us and raised an alarm. Russeli started the car In haste and stepped on it, speeding off past the gate before they could close it.

Soon we were on the highway, Russeli still driving with speed, I looked at the side mirror and I could see some cars behind us, following ours with the same speed.

This was a car chase, one of those deadly ones I do see on TV. Tears pool in my eyes as I looked at Russelli. "What do we do, they are after us."

Everything that was happening was making me sad, why does love have to be this way?

"We would be out of sight very soon," Russeli assured me and accelerated. He held my hands with his free hands, while the other was at the steering wheel.

His hands were warm, giving me comfort within my soul. "I love you, Malinda." He turns his eyes to look at me. "And I will protect you."

I looked at his handsome face, he was the most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on, through luck he had come across my path.

"I love you, Russel," I said softly and he looked at me with the cutest smile on his handsome face, at this moment it felt so perfect like there was peace around us and no car chase, just us enjoying a joyful ride, I flashed him a smile too.

But all hell broke loose when we turned to face the road, a big truck came crashing on our car and glass shattered as our car flew in the air like we were in a spin ball.

The first land of the car, then the second and the third it stills, pieces of glass with blood everywhere, I looked at Russell and his eyes were on me.

We were both choking on our blood as we reached our hands to touch each other, but to no avail, before my eyes, Russeli closed his eyes and soon after mine did, then blackout!

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
