Will love to give a second chance? Or will it deepen the gap and enmity between them?

Chapter 1 1

The tense atmosphere was palpable in a house-in the living room, to be exact. A married couple appeared to be having a heated argument there.

"Come on, what's so difficult for you to sign that divorce paper? We are no longer compatible."

"Not compatible, how? We've been fine all this time."

"What's fine about it? You can't do anything right since you lost your kidney."

"But I donated my kidney to you, honey. You were the one who said you would take care of my company, and I stayed at home waiting for you to come back."

They were Dan Winston and his wife Laura Stone.

"Oh, you're bringing up what you've given me? Let me tell you, your company has gone bankrupt. I'm returning your trashy company to you; I'm rebuilding my family's company with the help of funds from your company. Besides, my family's company, with investment help from you, has now grown rapidly and achieved massive profits."

"Okay, Laura Stone. I ask you once again, do you really no longer love me? Answer honestly." Dan stared at Laura with a look of sadness.

"What's unclear about my words? I don't love you; I never have. I married you because of the kidney you gave me and the loan for my family's company. It has now grown rapidly, so why should I be with you? Your money is all gone."

Dan smiled bitterly; his heart was broken at this moment. He loved Laura, his wife, very much. But now, boldly, he asked her to sign the divorce papers.

The issue of his wife cheating on him with Roger Bronx had been known to him for the past two months. His eyes were blind because of his love for his wife, and his ears were deaf to hear the truth.

"Fine, it seems your luck has run out. And so has mine with you." Dan signed the divorce papers without reading the contents.

His heart was quite painful; after signing, Dan handed the letter to Laura with a sad look. His tears almost fell.

"Goodbye, Laura. I hope you will always be happy."

"It's for the best; that means you know how to respect my feelings and my position above you."

"You say respect? Have you respected me? My feelings, my wealth, my money? Enough with your nonsense."

Dan walked unsteadily out of his house. The place where he had spent almost two years with Laura Stone.

Now it was all just memories; Dan had to swallow the bitter pill at the beginning of his marriage. A marriage at such a young age.

A thunderous roar was heard; the wind blew strongly, bringing a cold breeze. The sound of rain faintly began to be heard in the distance.

The rain poured heavily, but Dan continued to walk. He didn't care that his body was soaking wet. He enjoyed the rain and let his tears be carried away by the rainwater.

"Even nature is crying for me."

Dan chuckled softly, laughing at his miserable life. There were some secrets about himself that Laura didn't know; he had hidden them for six months into their marriage. It turned out to be the right decision.

"There's no prohibition for men to cry; crying doesn't mean weakness. Starting tomorrow, I have to return to my old self." Dan shouted under the heavy rain.

After shouting, he continued his steps. His gaze was sometimes empty, until he realized there was a luxury car stopping right next to him. Dan didn't care; he kept walking. A man dressed elegantly came out while opening an umbrella, sheltering Dan, who was already soaked.

"Young Mr. Dan, please come back now. You love your older brother, don't you? He's sick now. Please come back."

"Are you trying to persuade me to return to manage the company, aren't you? This must be the arrogant request from my grandfather."

"Young Sir, I swear this is in my thoughts. I know you are resentful towards the Great Sir, but now the situation is different. He has realized his mistake, Young Sir. Your brother, currently, can be said to be on his deathbed; only you can save his life."

Dan stopped his steps and turned to his right-hand man, Edmund.

"Are you serious? Is Rui that bad?"

"Y-yes, Young Sir. I'm not lying. Let's go back if you don't believe me."

Ed opened the car door, Dan got in, and the luxury vehicle drove off.

They arrived at a mansion; in the middle of the spacious yard was a green garden in the shape of a maze. Two large lion statues ridden by a knight adorned the front of the garden.

On the roof, there was a golden statue of an angel, or rather, it was made of gold. Dan quickened his pace when he faintly heard crying from a room.

"Oh no. No, Rui!"

"Dan! Thank goodness you're here. Rui doesn't want to eat or take his medicine unless you're with him." Dan's grandmother looked happy to see the man arrived.

"Who is that? Dan? Is that you? Come here." Rui waved his weak hand.

Dan hurried to Rui, sitting on the edge of the bed while holding his hand.

"Alright, big baby, I'm here, right? Let's eat and take your medicine." Dan tried to look cheerful even though his heart was breaking.

"I don't want to; you'll leave again. Grandpa, stop being so hardheaded, and apologize to Dan."

"Rui, I won't do anything if you don't get better. I will even bury myself if something happens to you."

The man called Grandpa went out of the spacious room; Dan's grandmother also followed him, giving signals to all the servants there.

They seemed to give space to the separated siblings, who had been apart for over a year. Rui was like a child; he obeyed when Dan fed him, and even the food on the plate was completely gone. He took all his medicine without the usual drama, then lay down with Dan's help.
