Chapter 1 HER REJECTION & BETRAYAL

CHAPTER 1

I woke up panting and gasping for air. I had a bad dream again. It was the same nightmare that I had been having for the past three weeks.

I was running through the woods and being chased by a pack of big wild wolves in the dream, and the worst of all was that I would trip and fall, and they would catch up to me, tearing me apart.

Fascinating enough, instead of wolves, it was people. No, not people as you think, but werewolves. My kind, my blood, and those who I called parents. Each time I remember this day, it brought nothing but a nightmare, just like my dream, because I was being rejected and betrayed by those who I called parents.

I stood up from my bed reluctantly and moved to the front of the large wooden door of my room, my heart thudding erratically in my chest as if it would break out.

I cast a furtive glance over my shoulder, taking in the familiar surroundings of the small town I had been raised in. This was the only home I had ever known, and now I was being ripped away from it, sold like a piece of property to a cold and domineering Alpha.

My stepfather had arranged the entire transaction, and I had been powerless to resist else I would be sent out of the house permanently.

One of the reasons why I was scared of the arranged Alpha was the fact that rumor claimed he was a devil. Not that he had horns, but his personality - liar, fornicator, possessive, manipulative, cold, and domineering - fetched him such a description and I was so scared of this. Worst of all, I did not dare refuse because I had been sold by the Alpha of my pack who happened to be my stepfather.

I knew how these things worked in our world. The Alpha always had the final say, and when it came to me, the decision was simple - either I obeyed, or I was sent out of the pack.

I was no longer wanted here. I was like a burden, an unwanted child of my stepfather.

I was a Werewolf, and I was just 20 years old. My dad was the former Alpha of our pack before he died. , and my mother was the Luna of the pack who had a devil as her second chance mate and it happened to be called a stepdad to me.

Since then, life has always been a little complicated because of that. I had to learn how to control my wolf form, and when to use it. But, overall, it was manageable. Until my stepfather, Alpha Charles came into the picture.

I thought having another man as my stepfather would ease my pain but all was at first, but then I realized he was only interested in me because I was a werewolf and saw me as a way to consolidate his power in the pack. And I was stupid enough to believe that he cared about me.

But, I was wrong. Dead wrong.

I moved out of my room and moved to the dining room as I heard them taking their breakfast happily. Of course, happy I was sold out.

" Please, father. Have mercy upon me" I stood in front of my stepfather and begged him.

" Why are you begging me when I have sold you out for billions of dollars" Alpha Charles, my stepfather, smirked and continued taking his meal.

" Mum, how dare you allow Step dad sell me out to that cold Alpha? I am highly disappointed in you, mum" I said, tears flowing out of my eyes.

" And how dare you question me for selling you out? You don't have the advantage of staying with us," Cecelia, my mum, said and looked away.

As I heard a knock on the door, I couldn't help but feel my throat tightening in fear because I knew what awaited me on the other side, a cold, indifferent Alpha, who would take me away from everything I had ever known and make me his own.

The door opened, and before me stood a tall, broad-shouldered man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. His face was expressionless, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. This was the man I was to be sold to, the man I was to call my Alpha.

" My friend, Alpha Herrick, I am happy you are here" Alpha Charles stood up and hugged Alpha Herrick.

" I am happy to see you again" Alpha Herrick greeted Alpha Charles, extending pleasantries to my mum.

"I assume you're Elena?" Alpha Herrick asked me.

His voice was deep and commanding, and I felt my knees tremble slightly. I nodded, not trusting my voice to speak.

Alpha Herrick looked me over as if appraising me before stepping aside and offering me his hand.

" Turn around, let me see what you got," Herrick ordered me.

I was forced to turn around for him, and smiles escaped from his lips. " This is what I love".

" I will always get you a good bitch, my Alpha," Charles said, tossing a cup of wine with each other.

Herrick whispered to me, "Have you prepared your traveling box?". I nodded slightly, feeling as if life had left me.

" Good!" Herrick Said and called his men.

Alpha Herrick's men walked in and started lifting my bags from my room to their car while I stood right there and watched as I was being sent away from the beautiful house my father built with his hard-earned money.

" I also have gifts for you, my friend," Charles said and motioned Alpha Herrick's men to a storage room where a lot of food items were lodged.

" I appreciate this" Herrick appreciated. Herrick's men were done with moving the items to his car.

Herrick hung his hand over my shoulder and walked me out of my father's mansion just like that. I entered his car and the ride began to his pack.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
