Chapter 1 Disoriented

A pounding in her head woke her up. Mia blinked, disoriented, as if she had indulged in one too many drinks the night before.

Groaning, she tried to sit up and was met with sharp pain coming both from her skull and her entire body. With a clenched fist and eyes narrowed in pain, she sat up and tried to figure out where she was.

The headache was put on the back burner when she realized she was on the floor in what seemed like a forest, no other word seemed appropriate. All she could see were long, winding canopy trees.

She stood up quickly, groaning in pain and dusted the leaves and sand from her body noting in horror that she had nothing on.

What happened, where was she? Who had undressed her?

She tried to remember and could not hold back the groan the action brought.

Looking around only served to increase her terror as she realized she was in the middle of nowhere with no idea how she came to be there. She opened her mouth to scream, but the scream died in her throat when she heard a pain filled scream coming somewhere in front of her.

Heart pounding in fear, she hid behind a tree and looked in the direction she thought the scream had come from. Her action was rewarded with another scream and the sound of someone talking. She rubbed sweaty palms on her thighs as she realized that the sound was coming nearer and nearer, and that both the scream and the voice sounded like men.

Was this really the way she was going to die? Would she be raped, or would they grant her a quick death? She started hyperventilating at the horrific thought and thankfully, darkness took her away before she could confirm what would really happen to her.

"If you don't stop your screams, I will give you a better reason to scream." Nikolai said in disgust at his victim, coward that thought he could be saved. He shouldn't have accepted to spy his territory then, if he knew he wouldn't be able to deal with the consequence.

"Should we gag him? This is not the right time yet for him to scream." Nikolai glanced at his younger brother who looked excited at the prospect.

The man, whose name he didn't need to know, whimpered at the dark promise of what was to come and Nikolai smiled darkly.

"Please, I'll tell you everything I know. I'll keep my mouth shut and not say anything."

Nikolai sighed, why they all thought begging could save them, Nikolai couldn't understand. "Don't worry about that, I'll find out everything you know and you won't be able to tell anybody anything either."

Alexei laughed and twisted the head of the knife that was currently embedded in the man's thigh causing him to let out another scream and piss himself.

Nikolai glared at Alexei who shrugged, "He was getting used to the pain."

The sound of something hitting the floor got their attention and they both tensed. The bastard spy, thinking it was his chance at salvation, opened his mouth to scream but Nikolai hit him on the side of his head with his gun causing him to black out.

"Do we have men patrolling here?" Alexei whispered.

Nikolai nodded. There were supposed to be men patrolling the area but it was looking like he would have to make an example of those unfortunate idiots since if they were the ones, they would have shown their faces. The fact that nothing else moved or happened meant the sound was not from one of theirs.

Alexei started forward but Nikolai shook his head. He was going to find the bastard himself and make him regret whatever he had hoped to achieve.

"Stay with this one, let me check it out." Alexei frowned at that, not because he was worried about his brother but because he would have loved to go himself and hopefully spill some blood.

Nikolai aimed his gun, a dark smile on his face and went to find where the sound had come from. He knew the forest like the back of his hands and even with the dark, knew whoever was there was going to be unfortunate to see him.

Being inducted at 12 years and having killed his first man at that same age, it was safe to assume that nothing could bring Nikolai Pedrov to his feet but what he was looking at threatened to be that catalyzing factor. He stared at the girl and felt a chill run down his back. It wasn't the first time the enemy had sent a child or an innocent woman to try to distract him and it won't be the last but something about this woman felt unreal.

It wasn't even her face, he had seen more beautiful women, at least the part of her face that wasn't covered with leaves. He circled her and surveyed the area but found nothing strange. Maybe whoever dropped her had already left but regardless, they were going to regret their stupid decision.

He heard before he saw Alexei. "What in the world? Should I further check for the rat?"

Nikolai shook his head. He knew the forest very well and it was obvious that whatever threat, may have been there, had left.

"Is she dead?"

Nikolai studied her and nodded his relief when he saw her chest moving. It would be difficult to get information from a dead person. "Not yet." He smiled darkly when he noticed that she was trying to control her breathing to look as if she was still unconscious. What had she heard and seen?

His men, who were supposed to be guarding the forest to let him know when there was an intruder, ran to him. From the alcohol he could smell from their breath, he could guess what exactly they had got distracted with. "Get lost", he growled angrily.

Nikolai knelt in front of Adeline making her heartbeat quadruple. "I know you're awake, you can stop the pretense."

Adeline gasped in fear and sat up. It would be better if she could faint or die now rather than be faced with the man in front of her.

Alexei whistled as he stared at her naked body causing Adeline to flush a deep red.

"Who are you and why are you on my land?" The bigger one asked. If he was trying to intimidate her, it was definitely working.

She opened her mouth to plead for mercy while she tried to remember but all that came out was a whimper.

He drew close to her again and she tried moving backwards but the tree was obstructing her movement. "I asked a question. Who sent you to me?"

For whatever reason, her voice wasn't working so she started shaking her head aggressively hoping they would understand.

The younger one moved closer to her,"Is she a foreigner? Why isn't she responding?"

The older one sighed and gave her a death glare,"I'd say she's pretending right now. Let's move her to the basement until she's either ready to talk or whoever dropped her off here comes back for her."

She whimpered in fear, hating the idea. Who knew what they would do to her there?

Her fear increased when the younger one perused her body,"I don't think that's wise. With her looking like a sex goddess right now, our men may not be able to keep their hands off her."

Nikolai glared at his brother. Was that all that went through his head?"And you will? Anyone that lays hands on her will have his hands cut off, understood?"

Alexei raised his hands in defense,"Just saying. I understand she's a threat but isn't it better to just take her to the dungeon at home? That way, whoever sent her here is trapped."

Mia looked up to see how the older one was taking it, praying that they decide to just leave her where she was.

"Fine. Seems like a good idea but you're not to touch her."

Alexei smirked,"Of course. And when I do touch her, she'll be willing and ready."

Mia gasped in outrage but unfortunately there was nothing she could do about it. She would never touch either of them, not even if her life depended on it. They wouldn't even be able to lay any finger on her.

She whimpered as she felt a coat top covering her as she was being lifted from the ground. She was well and truly out of luck, with the screams of pain she'd heard, would she be able to find salvation from the two demons? She looked around trying to find a route to salvation or something she could use to save herself and nearly screamed when Nikolai spoke in her ears,"No one can save you from me now except if you're ready to talk."

Mia sighed, how was she going to explain to them that she didn't remember anything about herself and couldn't speak either.
