The Color of our Love Chapter 1 1

Olivia folded the sheets she had just removed on the bed, she checked that everything

was spotless before closing the door. She hated this job but she couldn't quit at the risk of finding herself out of work. A foreigner, she had difficulty finding suitable work despite her diplomas and what's more, her skin color and her origins didn't help at all.

_My God Olivia, hurry up before the Snow Queen finds you here,

called out her friend Roxy.

-I'm finished, I was waiting for you, she replied.

Roxy was an unfailing support for her. When she came to this country, she didn't think

that life was going to be so complicated for her. She had been naive to believe in her aunt who had promised her heaven before realizing it was hell. She sometimes regretted having abandoned her beloved Africa to embark on an unknown world. The American dream had turned out to be a nightmare. Her aunt ended up throwing her out after accusing her of having an extramarital affair with her husband who turned out to be a scoundrel of the worst kind. She had wandered the streets of New York before heaven sent her this rare gem that was her friend Roxy. She not only found him a job but also a place to sleep. They left the room but found themselves face to face with the famous snow queen.

Carine Jackson was a frustrated and bitter woman who had been divorced four times and suffered several romantic failures. She had become bitter and took her frustration out on the hotel employees. An inveterate party animal and a greedy gambler, his cousin Zack Gordon couldn't properly take care of the hotel, so he had thought of his cousin who ruled the roost throughout the hotel.

_ So you have nothing to do? She asked them with the coldness that was known to her.

_ Of course if we went there, Roxy replied.

They didn't need to be asked, they almost ran.

_ Often I want to strangle him. Roxy said quietly once they were away from her.

_ Do you think the new owner will be friendly? Olivia asked suddenly.

_ I learned was immeasurably cold, he is so unpredictable that his employees don't know what to expect from him but they say he is also handsome.

Olivia slapped her forehead when she saw her friend who was still lost in the clouds at this last remark. She had a tendency to get lost in her bubble. They separated in a corridor.

Justin's private jet had just landed. He collected his jacket that he had taken off during the trip, he also took his briefcase and went downstairs. He found his assistant already waiting for him, he came to take his briefcase, a gesture that Justin hated but no matter how much he explained it to him, the young man didn't seem to understand.

_Is everything ready? he asked her.

_ Yes sir, they are just waiting for you. Mr. Kyle stayed at the hotel to wait for you.

Justin just nodded. He put on his sunglasses and got into the car. It has been several years since he left America to start a new life in another country. It had taken him twenty-five years to recover this hotel which had great sentimental value for him. His father Peter Hamilton had fought body and soul before building a real empire but he had the misfortune to cross paths with Tyrone Gordon who not only betrayed him by sleeping with his wife but took all his property for which he had fought so hard for. Justin was only five years old but he remembered this filth, he had sworn at the time to make them pay for their betrayal when the time came. Zack Gordon was very greedy, it had been easy for him to get him. He had only been able to recover the hotel because the other property had been squandered by these scavengers. The car parked in his private parking lot, he took a secret passage known to him and his father. He found himself in the office that had once been his father's. He found Zack Gordon putting his things away.

_ I thought you had already left? Asked Justin who had just surprised him. To his great delight, he jumped.

_ Well I was putting away the last things, he replied with a forced smile.

Once finished, he left the office. Justin began to stare at it, this office reminded him so much of his father. It had certainly changed but it remained the same office. He was going to give him the look he had before.

The door opened to reveal his friend Kyle who still had the same smile on his face. He came to give her a brotherly hug. Kyle Cyrus was more than a friend to him, he was a real brother.

_ So how is the man who finally got his due? he asked.

_ I don't think I'm getting better since this bloat from Gordon almost destroyed everything my father took so long to build. Justin replied. But I'll fix it, did you find what I asked you for?

_ Of course, a luxurious apartment in the middle of Manhattan, perched on the fortieth floor in a building all to yourself. Besides, only you can rent a building for yourself so that no one comes to bother you.

_I am like that, what do you want? Justin replied with a smirk.

_ Well I'll leave you, I'm going to see the progress of the preparations for the famous ceremony this evening.

Once Kyle left, Isaac Parker, his assistant, came in and put his briefcase on his desk. He informed her that her suite wasn't quite ready. Justin clenched his jaw visibly angry but he decided to keep a low profile, he was not going to let this recklessness pass. He had decided to clean the hotel from top to bottom in order to remove all traces of Gordon, he was going to start with the employees.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
