Chapter 1 Marriage alliance

Chapter 1

Victoria's POV

Growing up, i always thought that one must always work hard in order to prove their worth and so i did, i spent countless nights without sleeping trying to build a reputation for myself without anyone's help, but in this society i live in that doesn't count for anything,as long as you are a woman you will always be belittled.

Well my name is Victoria Smith and I'm 25 of age .My father( Edward smith)is a business tycoon owning the largest corporate company rated in the top 10 companies in the world, well my mom ( Evelina Smith)is a house wife, well more like a trophy wife. I also have 3 younger brothers which means i am the only girl in the family.

Most people would think that i was spoon fed and pampered to my heart's content, little did they know that i never used my father's connections for my benefit, but i can't say the same for my brothers. Yes i am a COO in the company but i earned the position through my hard work.

Victoria's POV

I was jolted awake by my alarm as usual at 5 am ,gosh!!!! i have never been a morning person but i finally managed to push myself out of the bed. Every morning i would stand in front of a mirror and mutter some positive words to keep myself going throughout the day and today was no exception.

It was around 6:45 just after preparing for for work and i decided to go downstairs for breakfast. Everyone was already there. "Morning fam" i greeted as usual but they just stared at me as if they had something to say "gosh this better not ruin my day" i mentally pleaded.

"Ahem, we have found a suitable candidate that is worthy of you, the negotiations will take place next week" my my dad cleared his throat before dropping a bombshell on me, i stared at them as if they have gone mad. Deep down i wished that one of my brothers would say its a prank as usual, i looked them in the eyes one by one and i didn't see any hint of amusement on their faces, they all had poker faces that's when i realized something, they knew...they knew that our parents were trying to set me up for a marriage with a stranger.

I always knew that my father believed that a woman was meant to stay at home, bear children and take care of her husband like exactly what my mother is doing but i did not expect this at all.

I looked at my mother to see if she also supported this and she looked down in shame, just as i thought i snickered and stormed out of the house and immediately drove off. I didn't know where to go ,i mean i could always go to work but i could not let my colleagues see me like this,i was in no state to get any work done.

So i called that one person who would always have my best interests at heart, Maryse. We have been best friends since kindergarten because our families have been partners for ages, although we do not always keep in touch due to our busy schedules i know we've got each other.

"To what do i owe this pleasant surprise?",i heard her loud voice on the other side, well you can always count on Maryse to be bubbly. "Calm down will you?, i think i need to talk to someone before i lose my mind" i told her and she went silent for a moment probably wondering what could be the matter.

"Sure babe,Maryse at your service. Same place?" She asked. " Sure i will meet you there in 30 minutes" i immediately headed there, slightly relieved that atleast someone was willing to hear me.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.
