Chapter 1 1

Kaiya Everett's world was turned upside down when she received a phone call from a lawyer's office, informing her of her father's passing. August Everett, the billionaire art collector, had died suddenly, leaving behind a vast fortune and a complex web of secrets.

Kaiya's mind reeled as she tried to process the news. She had never met her father, never even seen a picture of him. Her mother had always been tight-lipped about her past, and Kaiya had grown up with a sense of disconnection from her family's history.

The lawyer's voice on the phone was kind but firm, explaining that Kaiya was the sole beneficiary of August's estate. She was to report to the lawyer's office immediately to discuss the details of her inheritance.

Kaiya's hands trembled as she hung up the phone. She felt like she was living in a dream, a surreal world where nothing made sense.

Kaiya arrived at the lawyer's office, a sleek glass tower in the heart of the city. She was greeted by a receptionist who led her to a conference room where the lawyer, Mr. Jenkins, was waiting.

Mr. Jenkins was a middle-aged man with a kind face and a firm handshake. He explained that August's estate was vast, including a collection of rare art, properties around the world, and a fortune in stocks and bonds.

Kaiya listened, numb, as Mr. Jenkins outlined the details of her inheritance. She couldn't believe that this was happening to her, that she was now a part of this world of wealth and privilege.

But with the inheritance came a price. Kaiya learned that she was not the only one who had a claim to August's estate. A rival heir, Caspian Nightingale, was contesting the will, claiming that Kaiya was not the rightful beneficiary.

Kaiya's head spun as she tried to process the information. She had never heard of Caspian Nightingale before, but she knew that she would have to fight to protect her inheritance.

Mr. Jenkins handed Kaiya a folder filled with documents and information about her father's estate. He explained that she would need to meet with Beckett Vaughn, a billionaire with ties to August's past, to discuss the details of her inheritance.

Kaiya left the lawyer's office feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about her future. She knew that she had a long and difficult road ahead of her, but she was determined to uncover the secrets of her family's past and protect her inheritance.

Kaiya stepped out of the lawyer's office and into the bright sunlight. She felt like she was walking into a new world, one that was full of uncertainty and possibility. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts.

The city streets were bustling with activity, people rushing to and fro with purpose. Kaiya felt like she was the only one who was lost, like she was the only one who didn't know where she was going.

She hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address of her small studio apartment. She lived in a modest neighborhood, one that was far removed from the wealth and privilege of her father's world.

Kaiya's mind was reeling with questions. Who was her father, really? What had he been like? And why had he left her his vast fortune?

She thought about her mother, who had always been tight-lipped about her past. Kaiya had grown up with a sense of disconnection from her family's history, like she was a leaf blown away from the tree.

The taxi pulled up to Kaiya's apartment building, a small walk-up in a quiet neighborhood. Kaiya paid the driver and stepped out onto the sidewalk.

She felt a sense of relief wash over her as she walked into her apartment. It was a small space, but it was hers, and it felt like a refuge from the storm that was brewing outside.

Kaiya dropped her bag onto the couch and walked over to the window. She looked out at the city, feeling a sense of wonder and trepidation.

She knew that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't even imagine. She was no longer just a struggling artist, trying to make a name for herself in the city. She was now a wealthy heiress, with all the privileges and responsibilities that came with it.

Kaiya took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts. She knew that she had a long and difficult road ahead of her, but she was determined to uncover the secrets of her family's past and protect her inheritance.

She walked over to her easel, where a canvas was waiting for her. She picked up a brush and began to paint, letting the colors and textures wash over her.

Kaiya lost herself in the art, letting go of her worries and fears. She was in the moment, fully alive and fully present.

But even as she painted, Kaiya knew that she couldn't stay in this moment forever. She had to face the future, and all the challenges that came with it.

She put down her brush and stepped back from the canvas. She knew that she had a lot to learn, and a lot to discover. But she was ready, ready to take on whatever came next.

Kaiya's phone rang, breaking the silence of her apartment. She hesitated for a moment before answering, wondering who it could be.

"Hello?" she said, trying to sound calm.

"Kaiya Everett?" a deep voice said on the other end of the line.

"Yes, this is she," Kaiya replied, her heart beating faster.

"My name is Beckett Vaughn," the voice said. "I'm a business associate of your father's. I understand you're the beneficiary of his estate."

Kaiya's mind raced as she tried to process the information. "Yes, that's right," she said, trying to sound confident.

"I'd like to meet with you to discuss the details of your inheritance," Beckett said. "There are some things you need to know, things that will affect your future."

Kaiya felt a surge of trepidation. What did Beckett mean? What secrets was he hiding?

"Okay," she said, trying to sound calm. "When and where?"

"How about tomorrow at 10 am?" Beckett suggested. "At my office?"

Kaiya agreed, and Beckett gave her the address. She wrote it down, her hand shaking slightly.

"See you then," Beckett said, and hung up.

Kaiya stood there for a moment, trying to process what had just happened. She felt like she was in way over her head.

She walked over to her easel and stared at the canvas, trying to clear her mind. But her thoughts were racing, wondering what Beckett wanted to tell her.

Kaiya knew she had to be strong, had to face whatever came next. She took a deep breath and began to paint, letting the colors and textures wash over her.

The next morning, Kaiya arrived at Beckett's office, a sleek glass tower in the heart of the city. She was greeted by a receptionist who led her to a conference room where Beckett was waiting.

Beckett stood up, his eyes locking onto hers. He was tall and imposing, with piercing blue eyes and a chiseled jawline.

"Kaiya," he said, his voice deep and smooth. "Thanks for coming."

Kaiya felt a surge of nervousness, but she tried to stay calm. "Of course," she said, taking a seat.

Beckett sat down across from her, his eyes never leaving hers. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions," he said. "About your father's estate, about your inheritance."

Kaiya nodded, her heart pounding in her chest.

Beckett leaned forward, his eyes intense. "Let me tell you something, Kaiya. Your father's estate is not what it seems. There are secrets, secrets that could change everything."

Kaiya felt a chill run down her spine. What secrets was Beckett talking about? And how would they affect her future?

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ “I want to get a divorce, Mark,” I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time—even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.
